    Very good documentary Dr. Alex. I was just searching for tiny houses and here I am. I am in awe of this community.. This is my dream community for me and my 2 daughter. I hope that there is a community that can adopt a family :) I hope that one day, I can come and live here until the day I die. Sending love from Philippines! Good luck Dr. Alex.. God bless

      Thank you for the comment. I have wirking here since 2016. I have worked in few UK Overseas Territories ( Falklands, St Helena, Turks&Caicos, Ascension island) and I was always happy. Here on Tristan , I’m part of the community. The people put all their trust in you and it is such a privilege. Amazing. I have got a lot of respect for them.

    Alex, yours is one of best videos of Tristan on here very interesting. I visited in 2013 on the RMS it’s a lovely island with great people but could only stay for three days unfortunately. So many videos are made by people who have never even been there !

    Like Dr Alex was telling in this documentary, it is a privilege for few of us to experience the life in Tristan da Cunha
    Travelling from Cape Town to the Island can be a challenge.
    But always the hope to see the land is something that keep us awake
    The people there are amazing and as he said, they live a simple life

      Yes, Tristan is a bit less populated. And the population will decrease slowly in the next 20 years

      It is a special place. Repetto and Lavarello were fisherman from Camogli in Italy. Still some descendants living here…

    Nice documentary. The yacht my uncle was sailing on, SV Coimbra, ran aground at TdC in 1953. She was eventually covered in the 1961 volcanic eruption.

    Spent 4 years fishing here in the 1980’s from a ship called the Hekla. Wonderful place.

      Well, not easy but the best way is in September with the Aghulas. Otherwise they are the fishing boats. Rough ride guaranteed…

      @@GonzoJamie i’m what we call here an “expat”. Simply working here few months to one year at a time. During covid I was stuck for 2 years as we couldn’t find a replacement.       Unfortunately, it is a weak point. This island is a bit s forgotten island. There is
      wind 500 days a year! They are waves also 500 days a year that could generate electricity. But maybe that is why this island is so special. But things hopefully will change…

      Best to look at the official website from the government. All the infos are there. Not easy to travel there due to the paucity of ships but never impossible.

      Unfortunately not. We as “expatriates” come and go and we cannot buy ground or house. We can visit, work for a while and then … leave.

      To live on Tristan!? Well, it is more surviving than living. As an « outsider » it will be very difficult to settle. The only way they survive is because of the community spirit. Remember that the moment you are born on Tristan , your life is part of the community.

      @@lillyjane78 Just coming back in Belgium I do realize how incredibly expensive many items are. And also the electricity and gaz bills from my elderly parents.It is indeed a big worry for the years to come as companies will try to make even more profits. A real tragedy. On top of that all countries are now police states run by dictators who put all their friends and family in power. And there is nothing we can do.
