There is a trick with squeeze converters, you need to attach it to the nib first, lower the nib into the ink, squeeze in ink, then squeeze it out, then in again all the while keeping the nib submerged, each time you get a little more ink and less air.
I'd no problem to write with my Classic Sport right away from the package. The nib is smooth and real pleasure to write with. I have this pen always with me. Att work it's very practical because it fits in a pocket and I have it with me on journeys. The cartrige I fill with my bottle ink with help from a needle and it works. I use Pelikan brilliant brown 4001.
info for EU writers, this pen is actually much cheaper (52-60 euros depending on where you buy it, as in Amazon, specialized shop etc) than a lamy 2000. you do get a tin box with this one (as well as with AL sport, Stonewashed, Calligraphy set and carbon fiber kaweco pens) but you don't usually get a tin box with the Kaweco Classic and Kaweco sport/ice sport/skyline sport pens which come in a black cardboard box (a disposable box like noodler's pens have)
Amazon also has a lot of knock offs. I would suggest buying this pen from speciality shop that is a certified reseller. I bought a less expensive one off Amazon and it didn’t come with the tin or any sticker, pamphlet, nothing. Then I bought one from a specialty shop in the USA. It cost more but it came with everything and I can be a little more certain that it’s not shipping from China.
This pen is not in the same class as a Lamy 2000. Don't get me wrong, I have both pens and I really enjoy my Kaweco brass. But a Lamy 2000 is a totally different league of pen. The Lamy 2000 is by far the best pen I own.
I have one of the plastic Kaweco pens and I agree with you it's a great little carry but the weight is just not what I want for long term writing. I have a Click Pen from Allegory Handcrafted Goods that has some good 'heft' to it that I love using.
You can get the aluminum and I believe the brass versions of these pens for a bit cheaper on fontoplumo. I believe I paid $65 for my stonewashed al sport including shipping. Great service and it probably took around two weeks to get it.
I just got one of these, and maybe they changed the design, but, although yeah there is a plastic sheathing inside the rim of the cap, the threads (which sit quite a bit lower inside the cap) are part of an additional insert in there which appears to be steel
Aha! You've already discovered Ancient Copper. : ) I'll have to get an aluminium Sport at some point as I like lighter pens, but the polished plastic ones get scratched up and lose their classic visual appeal over time, though I guess I could polish them. I like that the metal pens are more robust and Kaweco offers a distressed finish metal version that is already beat up in appearance. Sadly that won't give the same vintage appearance of the original plastic with the "deluxe" clip that I've come to enjoy, but I do really love the Sport pen, so it will be great to have several versions. Kaweco pens initially seemed a bit overpriced (as can many German pens), but I've found them to be of very good quality. Another great review, Bradley. Thank you.
My Brass Sport has already developed a nice patina. I've heard that the Raw Aluminum Sport will do the same. Yes, "Ancient Copper" is one of my current favorites!
Im not sure if you still have these Kaweco pens but there is a Kaweco brand, mini converter that is perfect for these pens. I got one for mine and its Awesome! If you get one for these pens you should do an update.
I've been looking at this pen for a long while but since I'm a Japanese EF to F girl, I keep staying on the fence. Good review, I'd never seen the converter before... wow. Very helpful. BTW, I like your capital D's and B's.
Save your money and invest in the Chinese counterpart. There isn’t much big differences. From deep research I heard it holds up to its BIG BRAND counterpart! It’s called delike brass pocket fountain pen
I like Kaweco Sport pens, but, having bought 3, 1 had a bad nib. Seems to be common issue. That may put me off spending more money on a brass version, looks very nice.
Brass looks clean. I might get one my classic sport feels too light for me and has baby's buttom. I had a medium nib though. I consider to use fine or even ef nibs from now on. As always thanks for the reviews!
I am planning to get one ..i would appreciate if you can which nib size i should go for fine or extra fine as i am sure medium must be oozing more then i need … Thanks
Paul Gravelle I use linen paper from Amalfi, it can be a real mess with fountain pens cause if you scratch the surface of the paper the ink will blot right away in between the fibres. It is possible to use any kind of fountain though, being fluid and careful. My personal favourite for this paper is a glass pen, more soft to the paper. More important than the nib is the choice of ink, you want to use the fastes drying ink you can get.
I just picked up the Classic Sport AL of massdrop.com in black, i really wanted to stonewashed but it was un available, i might have to try stone washing it my self.
Hello Bradley! So far Ive been enjoying the tobacco I ordered. And I want to ask your advice for my future orders, I liked Orlik so much but I want you to recommend me a virginia tobacco that has this bready baked smell but without the strong lemon-citrus taste that is included in Orlik golden sliced. thank you!
Thank you! any other recommendations for vapers and latakia full flavored blends? i REALLY like nightcap and think th latakia flavor is outstanding. i think now I tried Virginia (orlik) and a few latakia blends. Should I try Burley? And what blends should I chose for it? Also about perique, I didn't taste any spices in orlik. Thanks!
+Angie Pasto - There's definitely a "brassy" odor to the pen, though I haven't noticed it on my hands. I wouldn't be surprised if it does the same as your Midori pen. I like the smell of brass!
I like the screw cap, nothing worse then the cap coming off in your pocket, I stained my car seats from this happening, I had a lamy in my pack pocket the cap was nudged off and now I have two nice ink stains on my seat and a ruined pair of pants.
Depending how comfortable you are with eBay, you can get a lot for $60. Pilot custom 74's can be had for around that price and that's a really excellent pen. If you really want a beginner pen, the pilot metropolitan is under $15 on Amazon and that's a great pen to start with, very good quality for such a low price. Also platinum 3776 century's can be had for around $60 on Amazon, another excellent pen.
Bradley, I've mentioned this before and I'll say it again: I really do enjoy some of your music that you use for intros and outros. This intro song is lovely, and I'm wondering if you'd be willing to share your music at this point in time. I understand if you still would rather not, but if you're willing to privately message and share, I'd truly appreciate it. I promise, mum's the word. Cheers
+Stuff&Things - Well then.... Now I feel silly, haha. Still, what I said holds true about your music that you've been using in your videos, so if you ever feel like sharing, do let me know. Cheers
+Professor Bagel - It's actually pretty cheap when you think about how long it lasts. An 80ml bottle of Diamine ink costs around $15.00, but it could last you for 5+ years.
One difference I notice is that the brass model is engraved "Germany" on the cap. The plastic ones are not. I'll give you three guesses where those are made. :-(
Hi Bradley. Great video as usual. Have you seen the new Kaweco converters that are designed more like a standard converter? I was in my local pen shop and the guy there showed me the new converters and he said they just came out. I thought you might be interested. Here is an amazon link. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00LQB460W/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1461599207&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=kaweco+converter&dpPl=1&dpID=31FJSkyL8%2BL&ref=plSrch
+RistoKansi - I did see a piston converter on Goulet Pens. I think the link you included is for their larger pens. Here's the Sport sized converter: www.gouletpens.com/kaweco-piston-cartridge-converter/p/KAW-20000903?gclid=CjwKEAjwgPe4BRCB66GG8PO69QkSJAC4EhHheM6M4k891p5fGYgxmM-lfCk9DsVmfdlV8eL8pLmu9hoCiT_w_wcB - I haven't had a chance to try one yet.

just bought one and i’m waiting for it to arrive. such a nice looking pen and brass is such a nice metal
That brass version is very cool. Will be interesting watching how the patina develops while being used.
+DannoCrutch - It's already colored a little. Maybe I'll do an update in the future.

there's kaweco piston converter, it's great!
babattaja Just ordered that one! Can’t wait for it to arrive to use with my brass Kaweco :)

I love how the brass patinas.. And I'm happy to hear you had no issues with the nib. Great review :)
+MyLifeMits - Yep, this one wrote great right off the bat. Thanks for stopping by!

Why not just fill the squeeze converter with a syringe? U can then squeeze out a drop or two, saturating the feed more quickly than with a cartridge
Cuz even then it holds diddly squat

A great review thanks. PS I bought the Kaweco piston cartridge and it works great 👍🏻
Great to hear!
Is that a mellotron in the intro?
I've been looking at this pen for a long while but since I'm a Japanese EF to F girl, I keep staying on the fence. Good review, I'd never seen the converter before... wow. Very helpful. BTW, I like your capital D's and B's.
+Maya Goode - The extra fine actually IS pretty fine here. It might be fine enough for you. Thanks for watching!
Save your money and invest in the Chinese counterpart. There isn’t much big differences. From deep research I heard it holds up to its BIG BRAND counterpart! It’s called delike brass pocket fountain pen
The cap seems doesn’t fit tight on the pen ? When you put on the real end
Thank you for the great intro of this pen. Just a quick question, does this brass version gives off that brass smell? lol sorry, a funny question...
It does smell like brass for sure.
I like Kaweco Sport pens, but, having bought 3, 1 had a bad nib. Seems to be common issue. That may put me off spending more money on a brass version, looks very nice.
not happy w nibs either in the brass!! but my plastic sport have nibs that work just fine. will hv to change out the nib on my brass baby

+M. Iron - Thanks for watching!
"I like Stuff&Things" indeed ♡
+blackcat138 - Thanks for watching!
Amazing review
I am planning to get one ..i would appreciate if you can which nib size i should go for fine or extra fine as i am sure medium must be oozing more then i need …
Thanks
It depends on your writing. I use extra fine, but I write very small. Cheers!
@@stuffandthingsyoutube will go with fine…thanks
I frickin love brass :)
brass, steel or aluminum?
Brassssss yoo
Brass; nice weight and lovely patina.
What kind of fountain pens would you recommend for writing on so-called pure linen paper? Or is this kind of paper a no-go zone for ink pens?
Hmm.. I would think it wouldn't work well for fountain pens. If you had to try, I would use the narrowest nib you could find.
Thank you for your advice and for the speed with which you answered my query.

Interesting. Thank you.
Hello and greetings from Germany.
Happy B-Day for 2 Years of YT. Hope it will never end :-)
Love your videos.

+Elsterschamane - Thank you so much!
I just picked up the Classic Sport AL of massdrop.com in black, i really wanted to stonewashed but it was un available, i might have to try stone washing it my self.
Good luck, and enjoy your pen!

+Ismail Taher. - Try Escudo Navy Deluxe. It is a VA/Per, so it has Perique in it, but the Virginias are very bread-like.
Thank you! any other recommendations for vapers and latakia full flavored blends? i REALLY like nightcap and think th latakia flavor is outstanding. i think now I tried Virginia (orlik) and a few latakia blends. Should I try Burley? And what blends should I chose for it?

I would just recommend that you watch reviews and pick out what sounds interesting.
So, I have the Midori brass pen and it leaves my hands smelling like metal. How does this compare? I've been wanting one for a while.
+Angie Pasto - There's definitely a "brassy" odor to the pen, though I haven't noticed it on my hands. I wouldn't be surprised if it does the same as your Midori pen. I like the smell of brass!

I'm trying to find a good starter fountain pen (cartridge based). Any recommendations for something not terribly expensive (budget up to $60.00)?
Depending how comfortable you are with eBay, you can get a lot for $60. Pilot custom 74's can be had for around that price and that's a really excellent pen. yes!
+codebman - Perhaps, but my watch isn't available for purchase anymore, so it might not be very useful to people.

+Stuff&Things - Well then.... Now I feel silly, haha. Still, what I said holds true about your music that you've been using in your videos, so if you ever feel like sharing, do let me know.

Is that a vox amp in the corner? Are you into guitars?
Nice review btw.
+Adnan Morshed - I've dabbled with playing guitars over the years.
I'd use fountain pens but damn is ink expensive
+Professor Bagel - It's actually pretty cheap when you think about how long it lasts. An 80ml bottle of Diamine ink costs around $15.00, but it could last you for 5+ years.
Yeah man. Ink is cheap.
Its like 10-20 bucks for a bottle and youll never use it all lol
Why can't you 'obviously' use a metal-bodied pen as an eyedropper?
From what i know, when ink touches metal, it has some type of reaction. Not sure exactly what but probably it'll start to deteriorate. 🤔
Yes, it can cause bad corrosion with certain types of metal.
MEH brass is boss! You can convert this pen imo. Dont listen to all the pussies :)
@@joshuanorris5860 No, especially brass reacts with ink. Don't do it.
around 50 bucks atm
One difference I notice is that the brass model is engraved "Germany" on the cap. The plastic ones are not. I'll give you three guesses where those are made. :-(
I have 2 plastic Kaweco Sports. Both say "Made in Germany" very small on the bottom, not the cap.

You have very interesting looking nails
Yes "interesting"...
