My Mum taught me how to make a tea loaf very similar to that ; and I am now carrying on the tradition in my own kitchen. As you say, it's the ideal thing for the cold weather, and it always smells glorious when it's baked. My Mum didn't specify whisky as an ingredient ; but I think I'll give that a try next time. Happy baking !
I have never made sour bread, and I am very interested in that. I don't know if we have a place to purchase starter. I am going to look into making my own starter sometime soon.
I've made tea brack for years and tried a few different combinations but always came back to the old traditional, very strong, tea. I have tried adding rum and it was a hit with my friends so it was nice to receive the compliment. Tfs.
Big congratulations on the collaboration and great news on the channel revenue. I really must try making that tea loaf now. Have a wonderful weekend. 🎉🎉🎉
Hello Ali! I work in the food industry so I will strongly recommend using anything spare toward stocking up on flour and cheese in the next sixty days. Love to miss Luna, and have a blessed week.
Good tip! I was reading about possible shortages due to crop failures and shortages. I was planning on stocking up on flour but will do cheese as well.
Great video Ali, thanks. Saw a money saving tip the other day for ‘making’ your own brown sugar just by mixing black treacle and white granulated sugar (courtesy of Nancy Birtwhistle)
Thanks Ali and for the tip on preservative free mixed fruit.I’m going to try an egg free version as my daughter is vegan. I’m also going to order a sourdough starter from Sourdough by the sea.
Thanks for another great video, Ali, along with Luna’s contributions! I’ve always baked (from the old Be-Ro book published in the UK) and it is so quick and satisfying to whip up a batch of scones, Scotch pancakes, a cake or a tea loaf. It’s also good to know you can control the quality of the ingredients used, and avoid UPFs. I freeze my scones and tea loaves in slices, and it’s quick and easy to defrost them when you want a sweet treat.
Will be trying the tea loaf it looks yummy. Glad your subscribers are growing you deserve it. Your videos are very informative and amusing ( with you co star Luna).
I look forward to both videos on a weekly basis set up with a nice big mug of tea beforehand...... your down to earth that’s your endearing quality ( best hand up .... please miss can you do the carrot cake next 😁😁 ) could listen to you for hours on end .... the boule always looks artisan but the pleasure is in the eating ( OMG )..... I got sickened of tea loaf when I first started working my mum put it in my lunchbox 7 years solid !!! ..... Personally I think Luna should have a cameo each video .... Have yourself a lovely weekend.
Thank you Ali it all looked lovely if you wet your blade with each cut you should find it an easy glide in the dough I love foodi friday.have a great week .xx
Wonderful! ❤ Keep up the great video content and bakes Ali! X If people are interested we have a free sourdough starter care guide on our website too :)
Hi, I'm in Wales. We have a similar tea loaf which we call a 'bara brith' Welsh tea loaf. I have plenty of whiskey left over from when my son makes homemade egg nog at Christmas. Thanks for the recipe, maybe I will add the whiskey next time. Have a good day.
Hello Ali. I'm a fairly new subscriber and have been catching up with some of your videos. I loved the sourdough one - it actually looks easier than "ordinary" bread, and I like sourdough bread or rolls anyway. And this tea loaf also looks easy, so I might have a go at that. I don't do much cooking of any kind (apart from the occasional jacket potato), but if I'm careful with sugar content, that looks do-able.
Thanks for another great video! I agree it is difficult to get dried fruit without additives. I can only get sultanas. The local shop has pure dried sultanas but they taste a bit odd. As it happens I am just waiting for my sultana delivery from Amazon. Purima brand taste OK. I refuse to eat refined oil.
Thank you for your baking morning , I make my own bread but I use yeast however I give it along prove at least twice . I bet your tea loaf is lovely do you have with a bit of butter on . Have a nice weekend
Todays meal baked fish & chips(haddock fillets with sweet potato chips in paprika, garlic and a touch of cayenne pepper and frozen peas). With freshly squeezed lemon. Tomorrow chicken stir fry with purple broccoli, carrot, spring onion, chestnut mushrooms, celery, sweet pepper, garlic, ginger, turmeric, Garam masala, tomato chopped up with a hint a fajita spice blend. Sunday, Monday and Wednesday..chicken curry in slow cooker(chicken, Garam masala, sweet potato, brown onion, paprika, ginger, garlic, Caribbean mild curry powder and coconut milk.. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Spicy Meatball Soup in slow cooker..Red onion, garlic, 12 meatballs, jalapeño sliced, oregano, smoked paprika, chicken stock, chopped tomatoes, sliced carrot and a sweet potato optional teaspoon of fajita seasoning….
That cake looks lovely, Ali. Roughly how much baking do you do in any given week or month please? I was wondering about your oven use and how economical you find it all. Thanks for such a great video.
I bake a sourdough loaf every week and maybe a carrot or banana loaf once month. Sometimes I make cheese scones. The problem with baking is you can't always fill the oven or keep opening the door to remove stuff if they bake at different times. So I don't do it very often
@@aliliveswellonless Thanks Ali. I know you can do cheese scones ( love them just a bit too much ), but I’ve not yet tried it. I will do hopefully soon once I’m a bit better settled in. Many thanks and love to the wonderful Luna.
They're from Waitrose, the Essential range. Tesco's own label ones also just have sunflower oil as the preservative. I've not checked other supermarkets yet
Congrats on the collaboration! I made a resolution to learn to make sourdough this year so this is very timely, as of course I haven’t done anything yet! We boomers need to support each other as we enter our later years and I love your take on this x
Your transparency is refreshing. Congrats on your collaboration - I just checked Sourdough by the sea and they look great. :)
Well done on the collaboration. Nice little gift ideas for home bakers. I love hearing Luna in the background.
Thanks for a great foodie Friday ❤️hope Luna is ok now x
My mum used to make a similar tea loaf so it took me right back to my childhood 😊

Hi Ali 😊 tomorrow I will be baking my first loaf 🍞. I will keep you posted. The starter looks and smells wonderful.
I hope it works out. Remember it can take a few loaves to get it right especially with individual oven temps and timing. Good luck!!! :-)
I have never made sour bread, and I am very interested in that. I don't know if we have a place to purchase starter. I am going to look into making my own starter sometime soon.
Thanks for info on starter,Ali.
I’m going to bake your tea loaf recipe, too.
Your kitchen must smell amazing!
Luna made me laugh ❤
Living in Wales I make Barabrith, which is a very similar recipe to your tea loaf and includes a glass of juice from an orange

I’m definitely going to make the tea loaf, it looks delicious 😋

Co- star!!!??? 😂
Yum I can smell the loaf from here in Perth Western Australia. Delicious.
Hi from a fellow West Aussie
Loving the Luna inclusions! So fun and cosy! And realistic - not perfection like the boring influencers! Bread looks yummy! Thank you.
Luna is a huge part of my life so she's very much included!! Lol!

I'm not much of a baker lol but I would be interested in you sharing your soup recipes.
Great idea! :-)

Have you ever made bread in the airfryer. If you have one. My oven is broken. Thanks. 😊
No I don't have an air fryer :-)
Would not be the same without Luna

It could be as ‘lame’ is the French word for blade
Great videos.
What brand was the dried fruit? As I liked the info about preservatives, thanks x ❤️
