BTW, hotels have a "rack rate" which means "the highest amount we can possibly charge for that room". If you get charged rack rate, you were basically screwed - showed up without a reservation when the city is practically full. There's a sweet spot for making reservations: too early, and they haven't figured out how many reservations to expect, too late and they inflate the price, sure they are going to fill anyway. Last time I made a hotel reservation, I asked the clerk what their occupancy percentage was for the dates I was interested in, and chose the lowest day to get the lowest rate.

I´ve subscribed" Today I found out" a while ago and I always liked Simon as this serious presenter who tells you intresting things about the world, then there was the " What does Nicolas Cage uses his money for" video and I loved how he suddenly got a little sarcastic and put his own opinion in the video, but this Channel and format of a video is even better, Simon, not being serious and only presenting a Text but him presenting it and adding his own opinion or little storys or Facts to it. I love it.

FYI - phones used to sell for $200 on contract, whereas phones today aren't sold with a contract. They were so much cheaper because the cost of the phone was subsidized by your monthly phone plan. If you bought a high-end phone back then unlocked and off contract, it would've run you $700 or so.

I don't really know if they hired Uber or one of the other similar car delivery companies to do the actual deliveries but Amazon didn't have Amazon cars running around town. Much like any online food delivery, you logged into the Amazon Restaurants (via their website), selected the restaurant that had signed up with Amazon to make their foods available for ordering and delivery, and then you'd wait for your food to be delivered 1.5+ hours later. It sometimes would take more than 3-4 hours! and your food would be cold, often not the correct order or items you ordered would be missing. And on top of the marked-up cost of food, you were charged a service fee. Had you simply called the restaurant yourself (most restaurants that delivery used to have a call in service, some even had online service) and placed your order, often the restaurant would have free delivery if you order a certain $$ of food. We also have Uber Eats, Grubhub, and several other middleman food ordering companies. Amazon's list of restaurants was not very good either, usually the restaurants that had inferior food listed with them. And if something went wrong with your order, like you'd just waited 3 hours for your food and you wanted to check to see what happened, there was no way to do that; the restaurant would always tell you to go through Amazon.

The thing with the kindle iOS app is that Amazon want to be treated differently to smaller companies who follow the rules. A good topic would be Gibson guitars, specifically ex ceo Henry Juszkiewicz A brand famous for iconic looking guitars from Slash and Jimmy Pages Les Pauls to Angus Young’s SG’s. He tried to modernise them putting robotics and other electronics into them and develop the company from musical instruments into a lifestyle brand... unsurprisingly this failed and led to the filing for bankruptcy and his removal. Queue recent PR gaffs including the recent video of a bulldozer running over hundreds of their guitars as they did not match quality control instead of donating them to childrens/music charities. Their recent ‘Gibson Play Authentic’ PR disaster was entertaining also - the ‘Director of Brand Experience’ Mark Agnesi said anyone playing/making a Les Paul shaped guitar not created by Gibson was a fake and not authentic. To go back to my first paragraph - the guitar that put Gibson on the map, Slash’s Les Paul, was actually a fake Gibson guitar 😂 A modern day powerful company that cannot grasp simple PR

Yes, their wealth goes up and down based on Amazon's share price; even a few cents difference can mean billions of dollars plus or minus. I don't think anyone doubts that he's still very rich, or that he might reclaim the top spot soon.

Also, I'm not sure why you are referring to women specifically; there are fewer female billionaires, but they are just as likely to be self-made, e.g. Oprah.

A brand famous for iconic looking guitars from Slash and Jimmy Pages Les Pauls to Angus Young’s SG’s.
He tried to modernise them putting robotics and other electronics into them and develop the company from musical instruments into a lifestyle brand... unsurprisingly this failed and led to the filing for bankruptcy and his removal. Queue recent PR gaffs including the recent video of a bulldozer running over hundreds of their guitars as they did not match quality control instead of donating them to childrens/music charities.
Their recent ‘Gibson Play Authentic’ PR disaster was entertaining also - the ‘Director of Brand Experience’ Mark Agnesi said anyone playing/making a Les Paul shaped guitar not created by Gibson was a fake and not authentic. To go back to my first paragraph - the guitar that put Gibson on the map, Slash’s Les Paul, was actually a fake Gibson guitar 😂
