Lucien Greaves, co-founder of The Satanic Temple, is featured in the film, and he joins me for a candid discussion about the film, TST, and his fight both for religious liberty and against religious privilege in the United States.

I was watching a tv special about Kieran Shafritz de Zoysa, one of the Sri Lanka victims. A child who was brilliant and wanted to be a doctor, wanting curing Alzheimer's, killed by the Easter bombing. I will keep this short, but as sad as it is, We don't really feel much emotion until we see the actual faces and the stories behind each victim. The comment sections on some of the News videos was the same old "pray for this...pray for that...pray to God." Let's pray to the deity who let it happen in the first place. Or, we can raise funds, increase security, and give medical attention. Yes, I am Atheist for anyone wondering.

I always thought the gargoyles on the churches like in Boston was a bit of a contradiction. This is all fascinating.
The statue of a man nailed to a cross gruesome portrayal of human sacrifice is ok and people adore it. All from a god that loves them so much he did this for them. It’s amazing it has taken thousands of years for the idea of a human tortured and killed in this manner isn’t OK. To have masses pretending to drink blood and eat flesh regularly to make sure no one forgets.

@@jr_1742 Australia is a very secular country, my entire family, the majority of my colleagues and all my friends are all atheist.
The few religious people I know keep it to themselves. I was brought up in a non religious household and I was born in the 1960's.
I think the U.S. is now catching up due to the help of the internet.
DOM woah... I’m from the UK but I was still raised fairly poorly as a theist as I had to go to a Christian school for the first 4 years of my school life. Though we don’t care as much for religion over here as the Americans do it surprises and pleases me to hear how secular other countries are... it gives me some sort of hope 😅 good on you

All the people I know from the U.S. are extheists and didn't even know what atheism or secularism was until they got older.

DOM I’m not sure if we are more or less secular than you (something for me to research actually) but you are right, sadly most Americans grow up in religious households and are indoctrinated into the faith and are made to believe heinous and at times quite frankly stupid things. RSP made me an atheist and I’ll probably never go back to where I was 10-15 years ago. I feel like we would get along despite you being around 40 years older than me and if I could, I’d probably share your voting interests 😅

This interview has been VERY handy! I've found out when and where the "HAIL SATAN" movie is playing in St. Louis and I am gathering friends to accompany me. I've also searched and found a photo of the Satanists picking up trash on a highway with tiny pitchforks and I can't stop laughing. I can't wait to see what other treats I can glean today.

I love Lucien, and the concepts have always attracted me, I'm just an apathetic joiner.
Basically, Lucien and TST are secular humanists who know how to irritate believers of any stripe.
Like all stories, they need a villain/ problem to solve. Otherwise, there is no story. Why can't believers see this? God and the satan is two sides of the same coin.

Most fundie Christians believe that Satan was a fallen-angel,that,instead of destroying him right away when he rebelled,the God of love decided to unleash (this supernatural evil being)on the people that he"loves",including his sons followers--who already could not help sinning because they were"born that way",thanks to Adam.They never pause long enough to consider how someone that near to God's throne and his awesomeness could or would do such a thing.I mean was he stupid or what? And what's to keep Christians from doing the same as Satan when they"get to heaven"? Will God take away their free-will?
Isaiah 45:7 “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." Why would a loving god create evil? Some scholars say that Satan was God's helper in the old testament he helped 3 times. Then in the new he is only mentioned when he tempts Jesus. So many terror stories told by Christians about Satan, shame they can't be honest about their God.
@@deniseeberle4347 Christians only have two main passages of scripture to back up their theory of Satan being a supernatural,and fallen angel(Isaiah 14+Ezek.28).But if you take those passages in context,as they are most likely not to do,it says clearly further in the chapter,that the subject is a man.The Hebrews used highly symbolic and hyperbolic language to describe people and things very often in their literature.They had no concept of a supernatural fallen angel named "Satan".To them,anybody that was an"adversary"(which is what the word means,with a small"s")of God and his people was "ha satan"or"the satan(enemy).And he or they were always flesh and blood human beings. Christians came up with the idea of an"evil fallen angel"to cover for God's evil acts and to avoid the cognitive-dissonance that it creates.Even if satan was an angel,that doesn't give God an excuse for unleashing him upon mankind and using him as his special evil-doer.As you said,ultimately God is responsible for evil,at least from a biblical perspective(which I don't happen to believe)But,if I've learned anything in my 45 yeas as a Christian,it's this:-Christians are like kids--they like their myths.

Satan takes his orders from nobody. He and his army fought for their freedom and won. From the story perspective, the christian god has been unwilling and/or unable to conquer him. It's interesting how evangelicals want to use the ten command.as the epitome of morality without the punishment for breaking those commandments that go along with them,namely the brutal act of stoning someone to death.Two of the commandments don't have anything to do with morality-the sabbath com.and the graven image one--and a third,"have no other God before me".Purely religious.The"apostle"Paul named the ten com.as part of the "ministration of death",that was fading away.They were never intended to be separated from the other 613 commandments in the Bible.-many of which were very brutal and,even cruel.Christians cherry-pic.the Ten conveniently for their own ends.

Personally, I do not need religion but perhaps there are those in society that do, given how many are religious it would seem that perhaps a portion of humans do need religion.

Edit: it sounds a bit similar, but the word roots are importantly different.
What really bothers me about Christians and the 10 commandments is they are TORAH law, not Christian law.
In the new testament, Jesus repeats 5 of the 10 commandments. The Noah ide law is to be kept by gentiles. Which includes some of the 10 commandments as well. So it is still relevant to Christians today. I hope that was helpful. God bless you 🕊

I look at it all this way: if you can't swallow faith, then, maybe, you can agree to embrace a basic moral code. If neither, and you're not just grandstanding, nor engaging in a poorly veiled cry for help, then what are the options? Fortunately, such considerations exist wholly within the purview and domain of God. I, too, was a 15-year-old clown, once. The Satanic Temple is either a religion or a club. If it's a club...fine. If it's a religion, I reject it (as an Atheist) and don't need it. If it's pretending to be a religion, or just challenging the definition, it's a waste of time, and it's insincere. When you put the word "Hail" before an entity, you are worshipping that entity. If you are just doing it ironically, then you're wasting everyone's time. There's NO value in calling yourself a "Satanist" and then claiming you don't believe in Satan. It's effing stupid!
Silly. Considering they have stopped Christian symbolism that standard religious freedom groups were just slowing and have halted many incursions into public schools, they have proved to be effective in what they set out to do. Humanism, including Secular Humanism, is a religion, and other religions are atheist as well. You are certainly free to reject it, but that's no reason to lie about it or it's members. I suppose not all atheists are such because of reason, logic, evidence. Pity. Anyone who rejects woo is certainly appreciated. And anyone who fights for everyone's rights is appreciated by me. The Satanic Temple is more colorful and dramatic (and fun?) than any Secular Humanist or Universalist group I know of; if I were a joiner I think it'd be my choice.
