20fps at native 4k with path trace on Cyberpunk's assets levels of quality is actually incredibly impressive, the 4090 will be remembered for many years because of its sheer power.
It’s true that 4K path tracing will remain extremely difficult to run on most lower tier GPU’s for the next decade or so. To think that the RTX 5090 will only be the first GPU that runs it in 4K above 30fps WITHOUT the need of DLSS.
Nah, RT is going to be optimise in better ways... Imagine if they allowed us to drop ammount of rays to the same as with DLSS, when using DLAA + RR. Tech demo of UE5 runs on PS5.
Ray Reconstruction was always like that for RT ultra (i think) but its because before RR was only available in Path Tracing mod so here it was helping slightly. It didn't change.
Yeah! And the 1080Ti with 250W TDP which was one of the biggest generational improvements ever... Good times! My room wouldn't turn into a furnace back then hahaha
RTX4090 is like 2 tiers above old gtx1080ti. There are rtx4080, rtx4080super, rtx4080ti and rtx4090. RTX4080 / 4080S are 320w. 4070ti super is 285w. Rtx3080 is 320w, but Ampere was at rly bad voltage, so an undervolt 2080ti ->3080 ->4070ti super gave us ~30% increase at similar TDP.
You don't have to restart for DLSS FG if it was already enabled. I enable and disable it frequently and watch the frames and it works correctly. I think when you switch to FSR FG and back to DLSS thats why you have to restart.
I have similar setup than yours, but when I enable FG and path tracing I get stutters ;/ 100% agree with you on DLSS and FG, those features do work very well, especially DLSS.... Anyone on the market for a card, don't listen to the negative tech tubers. Only caveat is FG consumes VRAM, so on 4060 8GB is not as useful.
It doesn't matter much since we will be too focused on the game to notice the graphics after a certain point in the story (in story games) but it does provide advantages in competitive games & gaming tourneys due to high fps. For us casual gamers, I think we should always go for optimized settings which takes low power while providing a good experience. I don't think a GPU taking more than 300 watts is justified in the long run, electricity is getting expensive.
I played Cyberpunk with all the bells and whistles. You don't notice anything while playing, but once you turn off Ray tracing, path tracing, etc, then you notice how much better it makes the game look. I turned off Ray tracing and path tracing for about 15 minutes, and I noticed everything looked like plastic.
It absolutely does. Anyone saying it doesn't is coping. The question shouldn't be whether the experience is better. The question should be: Is the experience worth to you the cost of upgrading? You can only determine that by experiencing a better PC gaming experience, maybe at a friend's, etc. Just be cautious that such an experience has ruined many a budget PC Gamer who lacks the budget to upgrade.
I got a 4090 a few months ago, was that a bad idea? Rumours of a 5090 releasing next year and I think I should have just waited for that lol...Will 4090 price drop a lot now? Cus i'd probably sell the 4090 to put money towards the 5090 when its out.
4090 prices are going to drop and yeah that was a bad idea but not your fault there was no news of the release window of the 5090 when you bought your 4090
You have to restart the game when you, turn on and off in game RT/PT to get better performance, if you play with this setting. This is weird issue in this game 🤷♀️
This game has been completely busted for me lol Like many, i had a few mods installed by now. Using those nova lut mods with PT, i was actually able to play around 90fps avg. I now have to drop it down to dlss performance, to get close to that. And frame gen is so busted lol. It seems to work "sometimes" and then just turn off in some areas...this latest patch has really f'd some things up haha
Omg love the video! ❤️ Side note: while ray reconstruction CAN sometimes result in an FPS gain - that actually is not it's goal. It's a denoiser replacer that improves quality and lowers the amount of artifacts of reflections. That's why it works way better in the base game area which is super heavy on the reflective surfaces. ✌️
Just reduce the Screen Space Reflections to High or Medium and you’ll get back 10-15 fps on the same Ultra Preset. Same goes for Witcher 3 Next Gen! SSR is broken in Red Engine or something.

RR never improved performance with RT, in the base game with the mod (at first u could only use RR with PT )to enable RR with RT it actually hit the performance a bit. RR was and still is improve performance with PT, its just get rid of more denoisers with PT. btw even in star Wars: outlaws when RR have a performance hit its not really the RR that cause it, just when u use RR it use a hidden settings for reflections " raytraced reflection max" ( u can unlock it and more with the "outlaw" preset.
This game is generally unplayable without any mods. I have a 4080s and run a PT mod and HD textures. I get 60+fps in 4k airh DLSSQ +FG. I usually run it I balanced mode with the sharpness slider all the way to the right. That yields a super crisp picture and I get about 80fps. And due to the texture mod it looks sharper thaj vanilla 4k. With a 4090 I could use 4K ultra textures and it would look even more extreme. Honestly even with a 4090 I would run PT optimized and turn down volumetric fog/cloud detail to medium and color precision to medium which will give you more frames without a noticeable loss in visual quality. With a good Lut and env you get an insane looking CP experience.
Personally I'm not against upscaling techniques. The major 3 are quite impressive, my problem is that is a requirement to run games at playable rates from the start, and people adopted this view, instead of asking to publishers to give devs time to optimize their games. But if you want to play with this feature enabled, that is quite demanding, there's no reason not to use upscaling.
