    The heel threads, you should adjust your pattern. Everyones feet are different. A little wider at that point. Other things might apply. But the socks are beautiful. Thank you for your yarn observations. Sounds like I should start thinking about using more than one yarn and change them according to wear areas (ie wear areas, toughnessm, memory retention, etc.). Thanks, thumbs up.

      Sounds nice, will have to check that out. I am new to knitting socks, and now addicted 😬😆 .. okay. perfect pair at Michaels. So do you wash after knitting? I have knitted scarves and fingerless gloves but have never blocked or washed any. I just have created a stash to one day sell or give as gifts. Also does anyone know if I should be buying a sock blocker? The socks I have knitted thus far I have not blocked but fit and feel fine... thanks all.

    Very Good and Honest review of these Yarns! I've used all of them also and I totally agree with everything that you reported regarding them and Yes, the Lion Brand is definitely the best bang for your buck! I Thank You also for sharing that You've dyed the Lion Brand because Wow, I don't know why I didn't think of that! I will definitely be doing that in the future! Happy Knitting, Dyeing and Making!

    I've only used Sock Ease (Lion Brand) myself and am happy with the result. Didn't occur to me to dye the Marshmallow , what a great idea! I used Michaels coupons to buy yarn, stocking up for the winter...now I will have to stock up for dyeing too!

    My favorite is Kroy, -hands down. Nice and thick and I can use 2.5 mm needles - plus I use coupons. My local craft store often has 60% off. 🙌🏻 What I dislike is the yardage but I just buy some solids to do the heels/cuffs/toes.
    Oh - I have experienced the thinner Kroy, in fact right now I’m knitting a second pr of scrappy Kroy socks and the Singin’ the Blues colorway is super scrawny. Interesting how that works. Thx for the video.

    I just seen this video, as im fairly new to your channel, you may get comments from me on older videos. So, thus weekend Yarnspirations just had a huge sale on patins kroy sock yarn and i bought like 30 balls. I got them for less than $5.00 each. Thank you for the info. I have been making socks for a long time but did it the way my great grandma taught me with thicker wool. I'm from Newfoundland and you know we need the thickness. Thanks for the info.

    I've been knitting socks with Patons Kroy Sock and Sock FX. Very nice yarn but on some of the standard sock and certainly on the FX, the skeins run shorter so with doing the standard top down Patons pattern from their soft cover book with heel flap, it take 3 skeins or part of a skein with contrast toe and heel. I like to have the extra length and then I wear my socks folded and that extra warmth is nice for me as I've had both of my ankles broken at different times and therefore tend to swell. The extra support is good for me. The FX yarn is very nice and a bit thicker it seems to me than the regular Kroy Sock.
    I have on occasion run into a colorway on the Kroy Sock which I have to use a contrast color because there just isn't enough to do the cut in heel, or in order to get the stripes lining up (I wind my yarn into cakes first so I can get the right color sequence and cut off what I need to line up the colors correctly), there is technically enough yarn but then I have a patch job of putting the yarn together when I get to the toe or cuff depending upon if I am working top down or toe up. It is less of a problem if I have to fix the toe as the extra thickness when felting the spit join is not apparent in the toe, and have been fortunate not to really have to do this in the cuff except that with color sequences which have no wider stripe, a cast off takes more yarn and then I have to add in extra yarn so that the cuff looks right. I have not had any joins come apart.
    They launder really well though I do like to hand wash my socks, I did them once in the washer and dryer but ended up letting them dry in standard manner as they did not get dry enough to put them in my drawer.
    Yes, socks, even the Patons Kroy, are a luxury item, but keep my feet warm also as I wear them to bed. I can't fall asleep till my feet are warm. So I've been sleeping better since making the socks.
    I want to try the Lion Brand for socks as it has been my go-to yarn for years for many things with their knitting worsted.
    I'm glad you pointed out the quality of the Red Hear yarn as I think I will avoid it now. They colors are certainly gorgeous.

    The Patons Kroy Socks FX has beautiful colors, sometimes their stripping patterns do not line up no matter if you are an experienced sock knitter or not. However, the colorways are unique and lovely and therefore I don't mind. The FX is a bit heavier yarn than the yarn by Patons not designated "FX". The striping available in the non-FX yarn, these stripes do line up but you may waste some yarn to achieve that so I have large feet and on some of the pair of socks I've ended up with using 3 skeins. So I buy yarn on sale or with coupons. The yarn wears very well and my husband accidentally ran one of my hand knit socks with the white load and it was with bleach and it survived and is wearable, so how is that for quality yarn? Hope that never happens again!
    I have bad ankles subject to sprains and have had both ankles broken at different times. So I like my socks longer so I can fold the cuff down as the old injuries tend to swell and it gives my ankles a nice support. And it is good therapy for them and beats wearing an ankle brace.
    I have not tried the Lion Brand sock yarn but think I'll order some. Thanks for your review.

    Hello. I don't know why but I've had a really hard time finding sock yarn I can buy online. I made socks years ago and I feel that things have really changed. Can you tell me where I can buy appropriate sock yarn online. I had to update my needles as well, but I'm pleased to have found what I need. The yarn is the problem. I've watched the videos about brands etc. but I wanted something a bit heavier like DK. I bought some very expensive DK from Simply Sock Yarn, but it was way too heavy, so I'm looking for just sock yarn. Help!

    Thanks so much for answering all my question so quickly much appreciated . This is my very firest time to ry knitting a socks I need cotton socks I don't fancy stripe or design socks . Believe it or not I live in a semi tropical island and I wore socks 24/7 except taking a bath I never go bare feet. I find it is impossible for me to buy any 100% cotton socks . the one I found I can't even get my foot in so I have to learn to knit socks . I decided to use Bamboo Yarn it is pretty strong and little silky. But I know Bamboo does not stretch. should I do German or Cable cast on? any tips or advice. Much thanks.

    • @KendraMakes
      @KendraMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally would use the German Twisted Cast On but either could work if you knit it loosely. I’m sure what you need and can find is very different than what is available to me here in Canada. Good luck with your socks!

    I am seeking yarn for mending, I have about 6 pair of wool socks that need mending on the bottom...I love them and don’t want to throw them out. What would you recommend for mending?

    • @KendraMakes
      @KendraMakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, I usually look at all my scraps and try to pick a yarn with a high twist and high nylon content to be as sturdy as possible

    • @judyandersen3842
      @judyandersen3842 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched your video and decided to use the Lion Brand sock ease...(ordered on Amazon)...mushroom color which I would have preferred a solid darker color like black...all my socks are made with variegated yarn in all bright colors so this off white yarn is going to stick out! They used to sell small balls of crewel yarn but I checked on line and haven’t found any. I don’t know if that would be real durable....I am going to double the yarn I have. Thank you for your time! Judy

    Is the Sock Ease yarn pretty thick , is it comfortable for people sweaty feet?

    • @KendraMakes
      @KendraMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is not very thick. It’s a fine/size 1 but is thinner than the Patons Kroy. I really like any kind of wool for sweat because wool absorbs moisture but stays warm while damp.

    I agree with most of what you said. I've never tried the Bernat Sox, but the others yes. I really like the Lion Brand Sock Ease and Patons Kroy. I like the Marshmallow, like you, and have dyed it with Kool Aid for fun. I liked the old Red Heart and Sole but in recent years I think the quality has changed for the worse. Thanks for the comparison.

    Hi Kendra , We have very limited Yarn in the Island . I don' see any adult wearing socks at all.Except men that works in the office. even the the shoes but without socks It is really strange. Most women wear thong I think thats what it call rubbed with upside down V between the big toe. It is impossible to find nice wool unlike UK or Canada.Or I guess USA.
