Something you overlooked when it came to Crocodile is that Luffy actually did NOT believe Crocodile when he said he's not interested in Alabasta anymore and he was NOT willing to free him, he only did so after Ivankov assured Luffy that he'd keep Crocodile under control.
One recurring thing in One Piece is that anyone who calls themself a hero is typically not very trustworthy. The Marines call themselves heroes, and justify genocide as justice. Yeah, Luffy isn't a hero because he tries to be one. He becomes a hero just doing whatever he wants to and feels is right. Because ultimately the outcomes of your actions determine whether you're a real hero or not.
Any man who must say, "I am the king" is no true king except maybe the Pirate King? I could see Luffy not obtaining the One Piece or the title “Pirate King” in order to reach the end of his “dream”
This is why Buggy and Luffy have a fun dynamic compared to each other. "All hail our Messiah, CAPTAIN BUGGY!" "YES! That's right men! I am your savior!" *internally: ShitshitshitshitfuckfuckfuckFUCK those idiots are gonna hype me so much that I'll get killed.'
Luffy didn't just let Crocodile free because he said he's done with Alabasta. Luffy was adamantly against releasing him but Jimbe convinced Luffy that they needed his power to help escape. He had to put aside his differences to see the bigger picture, which was to save Ace. Also with Luffy saying no to the pirate-samurai alliance. He said no to Kinemon. What he wanted was Momo to act like the leader he was born to be to ask Luffy for help. It's his way of showing respect.
@MrZero_19 Well, Luffy kind of already made an enemy of Big Mom, anyway, after he declared Fishman Island as his territory. And he already had a sense of how dangerous Big Mom and her crew were. Actually makes sense to strike at her since he was already in her crosshairs.
The thing is a hero is not defined by their own definition. It's others around him that give him that title. And no matter what Luffy says, he IS a hero to so many that love and are helped by him.
@@bravingbrivatebrian Actually, I think Oda might’ve accidentally wrote Luffy into being a truly god character instead of a hero. True heroes are, by their nature, selfless. Just look at Coby. But gods are, by their nature, selfish. Even if they’re good, they’re going to be at least a little bit self serving. So in making Luffy resonate with a god enough to channel him, Luffy becomes more godly than heroic.
@coltonwilliams4153 I just mean he's a good person. He isn't driven by ideology or trying to be a martyr but he is 100% good natured to a christ like degree, he only won't sacrifice himself for strangers but at the same time he will consider you a friend in an instant for almost no reason
"were pirates!! i like a heroes a lot , but i dont to be one!! Pirates eat meat and have big parties but heroes take meat and give it to poor people!! I WANT TO EAT MEAT" - Luffy D. Monkey
@TheThingInsideYourWalls Yes, I know, but I think we're going to see one scene of him giving/sharing meat. I'd say Bonney, but the scene we're going to get from them is an eating competition.
@@osonhoustonthat doesn’t necessarily make him a hero tho. the only reason he fought for Wano is because he had already planned on fighting Kaido, but once Tama shared her rice with Luffy (and he found out that was her last bit of food) then he decided to fight for her
I honestly view Luffy's "I'm not a hero" routine as a running gag about how clueless he is. Someone who sees a starving child and vows to topple a dictator so no child will ever go hungry in that country again is pretty darn heroic.
@@pimpymcswaggins208 uh, not really? Doing heroic things is literally what makes someone a hero. You can't save people from violence and say "I'm no hero". That's just lack of self awareness
Said child gave her food to Luffy when she had nothing. Just look at Luffy face in the panel when he discovers that. But luffy dont go around saving people he dont know (a thing hero does). He knows about slaves in Sabaody, but he only cared to save Camie because he knows her. A hero would try to save everyone there.
That's not quite what was happening there. Luffy's motivation was to help Tama whom he viewed as a hero due to her willingness to share food with him. So initially it was just a personal favor that he was doing for someone he admired. The fact that he expounded it into helping the entire country is definitely an example of character development because old Luffy would not have cared one bit about the bigger picture as long as Tama personally didn't go hungry. New Luffy was still doing it for Tama but acknowledged that he'd be helping others as well.
If you think about it. The only instinctively "good" people on his crew are chopper, sanji and ussop. Everyone else has a violent/criminal past. Sanji was just a cook with no criminal record. Chopper was just a reindeer living life and ussop was just a kid playing pretend. Zoro was a bounty hunter, Nami a thief, Robin worked for baroque, franky a mob boss, brook and jinbe were pirates. 🤯
I mean... you say that Luffy cannot see meat unless it's in front of him. But what about the time when Doflamingo said he had something he wanted and Luffy was severely tempted thinking it was lots of meat to the point his eyes became meat?
We all seem to forget the fact that normal people would not be able to handle Luffy's all out attacks lmao. Those attacks possibly killed thousands of marines by now.
Bruh this is One Piece, people have survived far worse. Remember that time Law deflected a cannonball back at a Marine and all it resulted in was his body comedically running around on fire for a bit?
@@cartoonishidealism582 You made a good point tbh. But what about Zoro then? It's not even undeniable that he killed thousands of marines with his sword. You literally can't tell me that all those marines survived his slashes lmao. And since he killed "so many" with it being absolutely no big deal throughout the series (just being a detail in the backgrounds), then it's highly likely that Luffy also killed many with his punches. (His punches are definitely at the same level as Zoro's slashes)
@@gooeysad2058 I don't think Zoro is considerate enough to continuously use the back of his sword against marines or even pirates lmao... Especially in Wano when they were in life threatening situations and he slashed thousands of pirates
The best way I've heard it put is that Luffy really only cares about himself and his friends; it's just that his standards for what make you a "friend" are ridiculously low, and he's fully willing to crash out and overthrow the government because you gave him half a grilled cheese sandwich.
I actually like how hilariously juvenile Luffy's way of explaining what he thinks a hero is and why he doesn't want to be one (it's also funny to see Zoro say he doesn't want to be a hero and uses the same analogy, only with booze instead of meat). It basically says that, even if Luffy is ultimately a good guy at heart, he wants the freedom to be as selfish as he wants to be, too. To Luffy, being a hero is an obligation, someone who puts the needs of others before his own needs, which is not to say Luffy doesn't think of others, he just wants to be able to decide for himself whether to get involved in something that otherwise doesn't concern him, where a hero would get involved by virtue of being a hero... at least to Luffy. See, I get where Luffy is coming from, but it's hard to explain without making Luffy seem like a worse person than he actually is. Because in many ways, at least through his actions, Luffy IS a hero, but at the same time, his "heroic actions" have kind of selfish motivations, as in he only got involved because someone he cared about was involved. I actually like this aspect of Luffy, it's fairly nuanced for an otherwise simple and straight-forward character.
It's funny how Luffy's selfishness manages to go full circle into heroism. Because as soon as he gets involved, even if it's just for one person's sake, he ends up helping out and inspiring so many more people anyway.
@@onlys9068This right here takes the cake. I fully agree, and to put it in other words, I feel Luffy is selfish enough that he *has* to consider other people, or else where is he gonna get fully prepared meat from? Where will he get fun parties with laughter and music if there's no one to attend, it's almost like Freeing people also Frees Luffy himself more and more, and the very concept of other people are part of his selfish agenda, which actually makes his selfishness out to be something more good than bad
"He doesn't want the glory. He doesn't want the thanks, he does it because he purely and personally believes it was the right thing to do." That is almost, beat for beat, Stan Lee's LITERAL definition of a Hero.
GLR phrases it wrong though. Luffy doesn't do things because he believes they were "right". Luffy doesn't put his actions into boxes of "right" or "wrong". He just does whatever he feels like.
Luffy does thinga based on his own egoistic criteria, but egoistic doesn't necesarilly mean bad, just not caring about the others to the point of saving unknown people (at least until wano arc), that arc was he escentially started caring about ppl other than the ones he knows, current luffy would not just hear nami proposing him to steal the people all of their gold and accept like in skypiea
An aspect of Luffy's behavior in Skypeia that's often overlooked is that his battle against Enel wasn't really motivated THAT much by the Sky People. He really, really wanted to ring that damn bell and Enel was in the way of that.
Luffy’s genius is in being able to sense whether somebody will be ( future tense ) a “good guy” during their relationship. He doesn’t care about the criminal history of his crew members because he knows it won’t come up again. They’re different now.
I really liked the “fight” with Vivi because she was kind of arrogant about saving her people from dying senseless death and she wasn’t really going to get her hands dirty with fighting but Luffy seeing the bigger picture that people dies anyway and more people will die if they didn’t defeat Crocodile. Vivi wanted to stop rebels thinking that if she convinces them to not fight the kingdom, they and her kingdom would be safe. But Luffy didn’t want that. He knows that crocodile was still a big threat. So in that scenario Luffy was seeing the bigger picture because Vivi was telling him the wrong things.
I think part of what makes Luffy's attitude work is that it lines up with how we as readers see morality in the story. Villains can do all sorts of awful things to countless people, but can still get a redemption arc and be considered a good guy by the end. The more important thing is what they do onscreen, to characters we recognize and care about.
If I remember correctly it was Ivankov that convinced Luffy to let Crocoboy go because he said he could control him. It did help that Crococdile decided not to go after Alabasta but he was against freeing him at first.
@@collecter343 most definitely kinda like how Luffy said that Blackbeard would be the last person in the world he'd want to have the Flare-Flare Fruit.
@@Drunk3nferret Yeah, he only met him once before but Luffy already hated his guts when they met again at Impel Down (granted he knew what he did to Ace)
@Drunk3nferret yeah, I felt like that example was missing context. I’d also argue that Luffy knew breaking into Impel Down nearly killed him; breaking out was going to require as much help as possible. He might not have liked the choice, but it still helped him either way.
Luffy is not a hero in his mind but definitely behaves and is written like a hero, albeit an unconventional one. Oda goes out of his way to make Luffy care and want to help people everywhere he goes. Luffy has never seen an injustice being done in front of him and ignored it. For example, in Dressrosa, he witnessed Fujitora getting cheated out of his wins at a dice game and felt the need to say something. In other instances, he asks the person he wants to help to ask HIM for help. Luffy is a hero. The only way I won’t believe it is if he ever sees evil or injustice happening in front of him and genuinely ignores it because that’s not his problem
Luffy has ignored plenty. He ignored the suffering of people in Impel Down and doesn't care about the actions of the prisoners he set free. He also caused the collapse of countless nations after defeating Doflamingo and gives zero fucks about it.
There's a bit of a parallel between him and Ace. Both didn't want to be what their family was known for, but the very act of rebelling against that ended making them just as similar. Ace ended up making friends with Whitebeard, a friend of Roger. And here Luffy is an unwitting hero to many people he's come across despite not wanting to be like his grandpa, known for being a hero.
It's actually interesting to point out that the One Piece world doesn't have a name yeah? It's only ever been referred to as "The World" and I assume that if any chapters contain a character saying "what on earth" it's probably a mistranslation that was meant to be more vague with all the "King of the World" "Truth of the world" and "worst in the world" talk in the series as of late you'd think the planet would have a name by now I'ma just call it Dave from now on
@@skelzorcody3434the element earth is called vearth. They actually called the world below them "blue sea", and indeed, the blue sea or blue planet would be a more fitting name.
I'd say the best way to view Luffy, is that he isn't a villain or hero. But as the D&D allignment chart would put it, he's chaotic good. He isn't a classic hero, and he isn't a giant murdering asshole. He's just a guy who wants freedom, who just so happens to do good if he feels the freedom of others is threatened. So that once done people are free to do whatever they want.
Luffy is different from other Shonens, as he does everything selfishly. He doesn’t care about being a chosen one, he doesn't feel a responsibility to the randos on the street or any sense of justice. He only does things for him and his friends. If Luffy wasn't friends with Vivi, Law, Rebecca, or Momo, all those countries would be enslaved and destroyed by horrible kings and Luffy wouldn't even care. Those bad guys just happen to have hurt Luffy's friends.
Oda is just having his cake and eating it too as he so often does with his indulgent writing style. Sometimes he just writes things because they sound cool or funny, like Luffy not being a hero, but this is something he is telling us, not showing us.
Is Oda telling us that? Just because Luffy's the protagonist doesn't mean everything he says is reflective of Oda's opinions. A good writer makes characters different from themself. Luffy says he's not a hero. The reason he gives for this makes sense. By Luffy's definition of the word, he's right. But that doesn't mean he's not a hero. It depends on your definition, and we don't know Oda's.
I see Luffy as literally the most genuine hero that can ever exist . Because you know that when he helps people, it’s because he f*cking wants to, not because he feels like he’s supposed to. No ulterior motives just following his heart. That’s what makes him free and inspiring to others.
Except that he's literally not a hero. He doesn't help people because it's the right thing, because he likes being helpful, or because he has any sense of obligation or duty. His helping people is always incidental, or purely because he likes them. Think back to when he met Koby. He flat out laughed in Koby's face and said he hated people like him when he was being a coward and telling Luffy his backstory and dream. But the instant Koby stood up for himself, Luffy liked and respected him, and that's why he chose to help him. If Koby hasn't stood up for himself there, I can easily see Luffy just ditching him once he took out Alveda. Like I said, the only way you can call Luffy a hero, is by calling him an accidental hero. He chooses to stop villains for his own personal reasons that are always motivated by his own personal desires, not any sense of morality. He's only a hero if you only consider the consequences of what would've happened had he failed. The motivations behind his actions are never truly heroic.
If I may...there are three areas of heroes and villains that have been known for some time; Chaotic, Neutral and Lawful. In terms of the Good Vs. Evil sides, Luffy would probably be best described as a Chaotic Good character; which is a character who openly defies all manner of social hierarchies and fights for the little guy/the oppressed. Throughout the series, we've seen Luffy do exactly that; not because he's duty bound but simply for the fact he doesn't like the way people behave towards others. He's like me, in a way...if I saw someone making my sister cry in public or hurt her, I would most certainly beat them senseless; regardless if the individual was a political figure, religious leader or even my sister's boss. I stand up for the little guy as well, just like Luffy does but I don't take pleasure in it. What makes a character a TRUE villain is how much they enjoy causing harm to the oppressed. We've seen Arlong do this, Doflamingo do this, Big Mom, Kaido...heck, even some factions of the Marines are guilty of this. But when was the last time we saw Luffy outright hurt an innocent person and laugh with joy at their pain? Sure, he may steal a fair amount of gold and break a few rules at times over the course of the series. But the thing is gold and money can be replaced. Furthermore, if certain rules are corrupt or cruel to the people, they are MADE to be broken. A big example of this is the apparent "rule of law" that grants the upper class of the One Piece world the right to capture and/or purchase slaves for any number of reasons. Luffy HATES this idea, not because of some moral obligation but because of the fact two people he cares about were once slaves themselves. So, what does he do about it...he slams his fist into the face of a Celestial Dragon, one of the people responsible for making slavery commonplace to begin with. In short, Luffy may not be a hero in the "typical" sense but that hasn't stopped him from BEHAVING like one whenever the moment arises
You have the only channel on this platform that I enjoy every single one of your videos, thank you for what you do. Plus seeing my favorite character of all time and best Hero boy make a guest appearance on your channel was a really surprising treat.
On that note, Zoro is even more in the grey area. I remember seeing some kind of meme a while ago that said Zoro and Robin could be evil if left to their own devices, and well... Yeah, totally 😂
What strikes me is that we haven't had a proper update on the grand fleet in a long, long while. I hope we see some of their solo adventures before the final war
What fun it would be if Koby reveled he wants to be a hero so he can share his food with the other people Saying that a true hero always shares food Bringing Luffy line full circle
Luffy is a perfect example of Chaotic Good I feel; does good things but isn't a hero persay and can cause as much harm at times as he does good. He is someone who will fight for what he thinks is right and help those who he thinks deserve/need his help but in doing so can often create as much or more chaos in the process then the original situation at times. This fits how the WG would have most people look at him as this destructive criminal who does all these bad things and even when he stops something like Alabasta becoming Crocodiles, the way it happens and the things which ocurred to beat Crocodile would to someone looking from the outside be chaotic.
Luffy‘s character is really dope and there were like three main moments that tell you what type of time he’s on (goofy, but can whoop ass like Goku, but not a crazy amount of depth to him) but in WANO when he walked past both the Yankos and picked up Kinemon my God that felt like Naruto when he asked Tsunade about Kakashi in sage mode🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dont forget that luffy post time skip not only went through some life changing events, that being the death of ace and the loss of his crew, plus some training and probably advice from rayleigh. it makes sense that he wouldve changed slightly, old luffy wouldve probably kept trying to fight big mom on wholecake, not realising how outmatched he was until it was too late, as he did on sabaody
Pretty sure that he's said multiple times that he's NOT a hero, and if he ends up helping people it's because of his friends, Alabasta? Yeah thats because of Vivi. Dressrosa is because of law (and rebbeca because she gave him food) and wano is Momonosuke, kinemon and otama along with the fact he wanted to defeat kaido in the first place
I saw another take on that Luffy and Zoro whisky peak moment, it shows more of their brotherly bond like how some brother will fight like bears with each other over something then just laugh it off later. Getting that view on it I think doesn’t make it inconsistent at all, yeah Luffy went straight to murdering zoro but you have to remember all Luffy cares about in any arc is who feeds him and zoro had basically broken his one rule
bro. I was only half listening during the sponsor segment, and instead of "Scan the QR code on the screen" I thought I heard "Scan the Wapol on the screen". I actually looked for a Wapol to scan too XD
GrindLineReview is NOT a hero. But this video does make a good point: Y’all noticed how Luffy treads the line between different ideologies?Like how Garp is his grandad, I think Luffy other grandad maybe Rocks. Both are D clan members, both bloodlines came together to make Luffy through Monkey D. “Luffy’s Mom” and Rocks D. Dragon. Just like Ace has two D. clan parents, of course the main character has two D. Clan linages.
What Luffy did wasnt heroic, it was the bare minimum. He had the ability to help, and didnt want People to suffer, but he doesnt seek out Problems to solve. 11:00 actually Luffy rejected the Idea of letting Croc out, Iva-chan was the one letting him go.
3:12 I love that color pallet for Luffy, red shorts, purple sash, gold open shirt and red pirate cloak with gold accents, love it. I think the black cloak is a bit boring on Luffy.
About the good ol´ Hero thing: a Hero can only ever be the person, who prevents bad things from happening in the first place without causing harm to everyone involved as well as their full and undeniable consent
Tbf the fact that he was already awake could imply that Luffy was suggesting stealing some of the gold specifically because all the strawhats would be able to run away with would be less than what the skypeians were gonna give them willingly. It was his way of saying to keep the change.
When it comes to Luffy forgiving past villains, I remember when he was working with Bege. He originally didn't want to, but agreed if he gets to punch him once. I see it as him saying, "You hurt me, or my friend, so i hurt you, so we're even." Franky and the past villains in Impel Down got their "punch" so he sees them as "even", so he's fine with working with them. In Franky's case a "punch" and help saving Robin, which probably tipped the scales from "even" to "I like this guy".
Loved the video, appreciate the work and thoughts. Interestingly enough, I think being the most free man is not Luffy trying to shirk responsibility but be able to choose his responsibilities. Because he makes himself responsible for beating the opposition many times.
Until good guys or normal people label him a terrorist, i refuse to see him as anything other than a liberator, always and everywhere he goes. So far hes only been doing that.

'Hero', 'Protagonist' and 'Main Character' tends to be used synonymously. That does not mean that they all have to be used that way. A protagonist does not have to be the designated hero, but they are there to move the plot forward and the plot will generally follow them for whatever the good, ill or weird things they will do. They could be a record keeper or someone who is doing something interesting enough to pay attention to, but they don't always have to be a good person. The protagonist is just the story driver behind the wheel of the car, antagonists are obstacles in the road for them. Generally a protagonist will be a Main Character. Luffy is a major protagonist as the driving force of the overall story. A Main Character does not have to be a hero. They don't exactly have to be the protagonist either, but would have to be around a protagonist otherwise or have some significance to a given plot as more than background noise. The protagonist tends to have the stories focus given they drive the story, a Main Character needs a weight of presence in the story to be called as such. A hero doesn't have to be either of these, they don't have to be the stories driver or constantly present to be a hero. Shanks is Luffy's hero, but he's not a protagonist or a Main Character. The story isn't centered around Shanks very much, but he certainly has quite a presence and is an important character. A hero is defined by their actions, how others tend to see them and what the general motivation for their overall actions were. Others see Luffy as a hero and while he does do good things... his motivations are more about ending up where he wants to be, getting what he wants out of any situation and doing what he wants. In other words Luffy is a fairly greedy character, mostly when it comes to meat. He always has a motivation and impetus for his actions, such as his recruitment of Zoro. Luffy just had to steal back Zoro's swords and set him free, that was it. Luffy could have immediately left after freeing Zoro and left everyone else and Koby stuck under Axe Hand Morgan, but he stuck around to fight Axe Hand in motivation of possibly getting more food he liked from the local restaurant where he befriended the people. Luffy would want more of that food, but since Axe Hand Morgan is incidentally threatening the existence of said restaurant... it really motivates Luffy to stick around and beat the ever living snot out of him. 11:58 Nami in particular is one where Luffy basically Davy Back fights Arlong for her, given Nami is still part of Arlong's crew until it absolutely ceases to exist. His motivation grows stronger after seeing the maps Arlong had her make. He's not there for Cocoyashi, he's just there to get what he wants out of the situation and to help his friend, which happens to have the side effect of freeing the village. Actions are heroic, but the general motivations behind said actions are not.
Staying in Wano for two years and almost died multiple times before defeating Kiado to make sure people could eat every day. Maybe not a hero but a vigilante?
We agree!!! :D LIAM!! Yaaayy! I was compelled to comment about this a few times!! Although I do still predict that he will be the One Piece world’s biggest problem by the end of the story! I’ll walk back my take on Luffy becoming “the final villain”, but I believe he will need to die by the end of the story. For the sake of world peace, Luffy cannot be king!

That's the mildest take on this channel ever. This take is so bland, that you should've done a video that the real hero of One Piece is Koby. But maybe you already did...
A big thing I've noticed, not just regarding One Piece but also in general: a lot of people seem to really struggle with the idea that protagonist and hero are not the same thing. Like, I'm pretty sure I've seen people struggle to describe characters like Rimuru and especially Ainz, because the idea that the hero (actually protagonist) of the story could be considered evil in any way, at least partially because hero and protagonist have been used as if they meant the same, I think.
.........Tbh, I wouldn't say freedom means being free from responsibility, as being free means we make our own decisions and are thus responsible for our actions. On top of that, I would also think that, by how Luffy uses the word Freedom, it would mean that one is free to do as they please without shoving their will onto others. That's what Wapol and Kaido did, and they turned into tyrants and sowed tyranny.........a path of extremes that freedom can lead to if one isn't careful. Ergo, by using his opponents as examples, I would think Luffy is slowly learning what NOT to do with his freedom. 🤔🤨 Also, anyone who's read my comment this far, go check out the fanfic This Bites! by Xomniac! It's a great fic and I highly recommend it! 😉👍

Who wouldn’t if your job for 10 years of one piece was to kill bigmom and kaido
Killing Big Mom would have freed Sanji completely tho
@MrZero_19 Well, Luffy kind of already made an enemy of Big Mom, anyway, after he declared Fishman Island as his territory. And he already had a sense of how dangerous Big Mom and her crew were. Actually makes sense to strike at her since he was already in her crosshairs.
@@murphythelatecomer4608 It would make sense that Luffy vaguely knew about Big Mom, who has been infamous around the world for like half a century.
@Mephitinae That’s fair, too, really.
The thing is a hero is not defined by their own definition. It's others around him that give him that title. And no matter what Luffy says, he IS a hero to so many that love and are helped by him.
He is so obviously a selfless force of good. A messiah like figure, tbh.

I honestly view Luffy's "I'm not a hero" routine as a running gag about how clueless he is. Someone who sees a starving child and vows to topple a dictator so no child will ever go hungry in that country again is pretty darn heroic.
Nah but thats the truth of it. You can definitely be heroic without being a hero! And that’s why luffys my hero
@@pimpymcswaggins208 ye
You call that view nuanced, but because its never explored, I'd rather say its shallow
@@ziglaus , Mr. Beast is more shallow than Luffy is, yet people praise him as a hero.
@@ziglaus It speaks for itself
"He doesn't want the glory. He doesn't want the thanks, he does it because he purely and personally believes it was the right thing to do."
That is almost, beat for beat, Stan Lee's LITERAL definition of a Hero.
"Vivi punching" is on another level lol
I think part of what makes Luffy's attitude work is that it lines up with how we as readers see morality in the story. Villains can do all sorts of awful things to countless people, but can still get a redemption arc and be considered a good guy by the end. The more important thing is what they do onscreen, to characters we recognize and care about.
If I remember correctly it was Ivankov that convinced Luffy to let Crocoboy go because he said he could control him. It did help that Crococdile decided not to go after Alabasta but he was against freeing him at first.
Guess it just depends on how much of a personal impact they had for him to hold a grudge, Croc being way more impactful than Mr.3 or Buggy.

@Drunk3nferret yeah, I felt like that example was missing context. I’d also argue that Luffy knew breaking into Impel Down nearly killed him; breaking out was going to require as much help as possible. He might not have liked the choice, but it still helped him either way.
@murphythelatecomer4608 yea that is correct. Luffy may be goofy and not the smartest but he has more insight then a lot give him credit.
In what way does he behave as an inconventional hero?

Luffy falls into the catagory of Chaotic Good. He has no malicious intentions, he has malicious actions.
It's only ever been referred to as "The World" and I assume that if any chapters contain a character saying "what on earth" it's probably a mistranslation that was meant to be more vague
with all the "King of the World" "Truth of the world" and "worst in the world" talk in the series as of late you'd think the planet would have a name by now
I'ma just call it Dave from now on
The skypians called jaya vearth
@@skelzorcody3434the element earth is called vearth. They actually called the world below them "blue sea", and indeed, the blue sea or blue planet would be a more fitting name.
Blue Sea is the most close to a name the planet has. So you could say Blue Planet is the name of the world.
Luffy doesn't want to be called a hero but the circumstances makes some people think he is a hero (or a villain depending on the perspective).
Hes not smart enough to understand that he actually is a hero. And he also doesnt understand hes a villain to some people
I see Luffy as literally the most genuine hero that can ever exist .
He is not a hero bro.
He was complicit in the release of multiple dangerous criminals from Impel Down.
If luffy heard this hed say you dont get him at all 😂
Yeah try telling the people of Dressrosa that Luffy isnt a hero.
Luffy: Save it
Zoro: LUFFFYYYY

Luffy is a perfect example of Chaotic Good I feel; does good things but isn't a hero persay and can cause as much harm at times as he does good. He is someone who will fight for what he thinks is right and help those who he thinks deserve/need his help but in doing so can often create as much or more chaos in the process then the original situation at times. This fits how the WG would have most people look at him as this destructive criminal who does all these bad things and even when he stops something like Alabasta becoming Crocodiles, the way it happens and the things which ocurred to beat Crocodile would to someone looking from the outside be chaotic.

~GrandLineReview 2024
Biggest plot hole: Law's ship was a submarine...how did he not know the world was underwater?
Ahh yes, the breathing of air, this flavorless and empty experience we did not ask for.
We agree!!! :D LIAM!! Yaaayy! I was compelled to comment about this a few times!! Although I do still predict that he will be the One Piece world’s biggest problem by the end of the story! I’ll walk back my take on Luffy becoming “the final villain”, but I believe he will need to die by the end of the story. For the sake of world peace, Luffy cannot be king!
imma call it right here and say that Blackbeard is gonna take garps shadow, sorta like nightmare Luffy, then possibly sengoku and tsuru since it’s theorised they’re headed there… and bcs gecko moria was last seen on hachinosu… (THEN, hot take, he’s gonna take out shanks and become the strongest yonko)
That’s what he likes to say, but he very much is
yep exactly
"I don't want to be a hero"
*liberates every island he comes across*
He shows up eats your food, dismantled your local government, while completely destroying your capital, while nami robs u blind, sanji eyebangs every woman, zoro drinks all your booze😅😅😅
Such a hero...
No, just an unhinged crackhead
@@cartoonishidealism582only island he ever truly liberated was alabasta because vivi asked him to(iirc) other times it was because it was either he needed a new crew mate or plot demanded he goes to that island
@@yrnkevinsmithC-137 It doesn’t matter why he ends up on an island he doesn’t have to get involved with the psycho dictators he chooses to
Everyone outside of one piece fans thinks he’s a typical hero too I’ve told my friends countless times when they ask about him that he’s a mentally challenged murderer and thief and that I still love him so much.
Unrelated comment but by the end of the series i need to see luffy and zoro use ikoku sovereignty or some variation
Finally, a decent sponsorship and YT says it was uploaded an hour ago, but I didn't get notification until now 😂
.........Tbh, I wouldn't say freedom means being free from responsibility, as being free means we make our own decisions and are thus responsible for our actions.
Also, anyone who's read my comment this far, go check out the fanfic This Bites! by Xomniac! It's a great fic and I highly recommend it! 😉👍
I remember when I said in Alabasta that Luffy is the villan of the series and I get kicked out from every single anime comunity from facebook.... what nostalgia to see this kind of disscussions now hahaha
