In this video I outline five myths about some common stereotypes about English people:
What is FACT versus what is fiction?
I will also answer the question - who goes to therapy more - UK Vs USA?
Who take more antidepressants - UK Vs USA
And of course, some awkward dad jokes along the way.

As an American who lived in London for a while. Here's my take:
*Coming from the Midwest where everyone's nice to random people, it's 100% true that Londoners are a bit cold to strangers. A random "hi" will get you nothing but a disgusted look.
*Re: teeth. 99.9% of people in London had very normal, healthy looking teeth. However, once a week or so you'd see someone with the worst teeth you've ever seen. I'd imagine it's similar to obesity in America. It's not like everyone in the US is 600 lbs, but if you're around enough people, once a week or so you'll see someone who is absolutely huge.
*English food sucks, but London food was amazing because you could get pretty much any kind of food you wanted.
    *UK Office > US Office

I think we talk about the weather so much because its so extreme and unpredictable! I was considering putting on my heating last week! It’s June ffs 😂

As a londoner, I agree we are pretty rude to each other as strangers 😂 especially on public transport!
I will say as an autistic woman, english people love passivity, which is irritating because I prefer directness and that is seen as rude! I don’t think it’s bad to have manners, like in the example you gave, there is a midpoint, “hi, excuse me, I didn’t like this burger, can I have another one?” Its still direct and mannerly! I don’t like all that fawning stuff nor the abrasive and rude stuff either!

I think English people get a phone call from a CBT person a couple of times a year when they need help. Psychiatrists are incredibly hard to see, which is why GPs give us antidepressants. In the US many people go to (psycho)therapy every week for their whole lives. Yes bad teeth are down to poverty but in the US there is an obsession with super white and super straight teeth we do not share. Weather talk is an icebreaker but I agree it is boring. Yes us over 60s are more stoic, the youth are a whiny bunch. True, US remakes of UK shows are generally too safe, miss out the cruel sarcasm (and swearing) and are generally dreadful. The best ones (like Brass Eye) they wouldn't even dare to try and remake. Coffee is at least as popular as tea. Great stuff, Doc.

Even in London, we have different dialects and accents! Someone from Plaistow, does not sound the same as someone from Chelsea 😂

Greater London is Europe's largest metropolitan region. I am from Europe's third largest metropolitan region, which is Rhein-Ruhr in Germany. It's the same over here...people from Cologne in the southwest of the region sound VERY different to people from Dortmund in the northeast of the region, despite the two cities only being around 70km apart and true experts on our regional accents and dialects sometimes say that even WITHIN the larger cities in our regions there are several different variations of the local dialect.

Just curious, I'm sure this kind of thing can't account for much in the stats, but would off label use be counted in the statistics for instance I was briefly prescribed low dose amytriptiline for nerve pain? Southerners are less friendly than northerners without a doubt

I knew England had lots of castles but was suprised at just how many. English food is good occasionally if cooked properly. France invented champagne and libertinism (not the rock group that was us) Their rail system is also more efficient.

I am sure that the 'terrible teeth' remark, is more to do with alignment of the teeth than hygiene. This, however, is improving, as far more children now have orthodontic work than did children in the past.

I'm shocked about how many Americans visit mental health services/on antidepressants, I thought everyone had a psychiatrist and was on Xanax. A stereotype that isn't factually correct, i guess
And as a Welsh person, it's true about a lot of English that if you say "hello" or "good morning " to anyone under 50 odd, you get glared at or they wonder what you're after

The old trope in Australia is that the English are unclean. We have a slang term called a "pommy bath" which is when you just wash up at the sink instead of showering. I'm 54% sure that this is just racism and not a real thing. 🤔

Very interesting. I thought America would be way ahead when it came to antidepressants. English and GB do have bad teeth; but in a different way. The teeth are not aligned properly. I am half Scot, British, and Welsh and was born with too many teeth on my bottom jaw. It would be more about orthodontal work than anything else. The Great British side of my family has been in America forever and yet we have managed to keep our manners. I notice that slipped away when people from other areas migrated to my state. I think population has a lot to do with it. Maybe because people just get tired of saying, "Excuse me" when moving through a crowd. England seems to be quite serious when they say, "A man's home is his castle". I would not have even guessed 10%!

    Vacations/holidays are very important.
    Everyone needs a break!
America is really hard on some worker categories....and always has been.
    My Grandmother, born in 1912,
she left school in 5th grade went to work at 10 years old in a canvas mill.
Child labor was not yet illegal.
The term was "bobbin girl"...repairing the threads when they broke or wound off the bobbins
The work week for a 10-14 year old girl was 10 hours a day for 5 week days and 5 hours on Saturday.
    Sunday was for church.
It was piece work so the top amount CHILDREN could earn for 55 hours workweek
at 10 years of age was $12 a week in 1914-1928.
And of course the money went to support all persons in their large immigrant families.
My grandmother had 9 siblings..one brother and 7 sisters.
    9 girls and one boy.
My grandmother's father stoked coal in the boiler room in the mill,
80 hours a week every week until he died of "brown lung".
When I was 12 and my great aunts, the "bobbin girls" were 70...they easily out worked me whatever we were doing.
