Malaysia simply likes to put in in black and white that every dish belongs to them. My late grandmother been selling nasi lemak during Singapore kampong days when my mom was a little girl (I think in the late 40s or early 50s). I’m not claiming nasi lemak is Singapore’s dish, but it’s a Malay dish. Malays been eating nasi lemak for generations during Malaya era. They also claimed rendang is theirs, but it’s actually originally from Indonesia. They claimed paratha too, when it’s actually originated from India. For us, these are all foods brought down and shared by traders and immigrants from our great great great grandfathers’ time. Let’s eat and enjoy what our earlier generations handed down to us.
Fully agree. Malay dish don't mean it is automatically a Malaysian origin dish. This dish originates from the Malay race which can be found in Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia.
Yet another dish you people are trying to misappropriate. Satay, Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Chilli Crab, they are ALL singaporean dishes. You can copy it but don't claim it as yours.
Although Singapore n Malaysia so near n also have some same kind of food like nasi lemak or chicken rice, but taste still different. Like chicken rice from Malaysia 🍚 chicken is tougher then Singapore chicken rice 🍚. nasi lemak is a Malay food .not Malaysia food .😅
I thought Nasi Singapore is with shrimps, ananas and yellow rice? Anyway that place looks great. I hope to visit one time and try several of these dishes they offer...
Cheng Tng - heat relieving soup. Consists of snow fungus, barley, dried longan, sago, dried persimmon. It is very refreshing, but maybe strange to your taste.
What unsuspecting diners don't realise is that the Michelin was awarded to their original branch (in Yishun) many years ago. When they expand rapidly, they use it for marketing but more often than not, the standard is not maintained.
The origin of nasi lemak is from Malay not Malaysia only... i.e. Nasi lemark Origin can be from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and south Philippine or south Thailand.
I think you wanted bubur cha cha ... but because you said cha cha ... he heard it as cheng tng. Since you are a fan of nasi lemak, I guess you will like bubur cha cha as it is made with coconut milk. @@TravelingSoloLogs I normally like to have just a basic nasi lemak. If I have the extra budget, I probably take sambal sotong or sambal paru, then either fried chicken, chicken or beef rendang or other types of sambal. Sometimes I just take extra boiled egg, that suffices my meal. 😀

There's also a lof of chinese influence in these cuisine. Nasi lemak is coconut rice which can also be found in Indonesia as Nasi uduk.

This isnt our traditional nasi lemak. The traditional version doesnt have the spicy sauce on the chicken. This one is actually a fusion dish created locally. The taliwang chicken is actually an indonesian dish. Still its delicious though.
And for kopi? "O" pronounce "Oh" in Singapore and sometime "Kosong" in Malaysia (I think) means without anything, i.e. black. "C" means with condensed milk. Gau/Po is Strong/Weak. Siew Dai/Gah Dai for less/more sweet. And, what you needed, "Peng" means with ice... And it should always be quick. They have the coffee made, and they mix in hot water to get the right strength, so it is usually ready to go. Same system for Teh (tea) if you prefer that.
@@TravelingSoloLogs Taliwang is the stuff. There's a restaurant near Masjid Sultan named Taliwang that's nice, but if you are heading to Jakarta? Head to Remboelan Resto (various locations) for their Ayam Taliwang Asap - sooooo smokey, so spicy, so good.
