    I really love this idea. I do hope you will consider doing more of these videos, including one on zinnias. There are so many choices out there! I am particularly hoping you will let us know which ones pollinators like bees, hummers and hummingbird moths are particularly attracted to...

      Hi Alma! That's wonderful! Congratulations! Yes. You can plant the same variety every two weeks if you like. Generally you get one flower per corm. I plant Gladiolus every two weeks up until 3 months before the first frost. Glads take approx 90 days to bloom. I hope that helps!

    I love gladiolus!! Espresso is an amazing color ❤️. I have a bunch of them and adore them! I had two glads pop up last season. There was one pastel pink petal and the rest were a lovely pastel yellow. I'm not sure if they came in a mix, but they are my most treasured bulb! I dug them up and two new full bulbs formed along with about thirty baby bulbs. I'm looking forward to seeing them bloom this year! 😍

    One of my biggest pet peeves is misrepresentation of color when purchasing flowers. My Green Star was very yellow, pretty but definitely not green. Tricolore is one I will pass on long field has it pictured as a red and purple it is not and I wasn’t happy with the color that grew. I can’t wait to try Costa and Lumiere. I will have to try Espresso. I have been on the hunt for a black/maroon glad for years. I have purchased black beauty from many different suppliers and got everything from a red like the amaryllis behind you to a salmon color. My absolute favorite glad in my garden is Alaska. Everyone comments on it when they walk by.

I have a row of irises that I've been throwing out with the same problem. I wish sellers showed more accurate pictures. I don't really like a close up picture of a bloom. Love gladioli. I grow them on my allotment in the UK. I don’t use the specialist growers but buy them from the supermarket. They are very cheap and add cheerful colour to my plot. Sometimes I leave them in the ground over winter but I think they do better if lifted and I sort out and save the larger corms. I have started them in several ways - straight in the ground, grown in individual pots or set in trays until they shoot and then transplanted. Thank you for showing all the beautiful blooms.

    BonJour,

    Great video I learned some new things. I am going to try a new to me type of glads: Gladiolus nanus - Hardy Dwarf Mix. They are said to be a hardy type, that may be perennial in my zone. We shall see, but they are very pretty either way.

    Well I’m glad we didn’t check out from longfield yet 🙄😆 was considering buying a few specialty gladiolus corms and now you’ve convinced us! Loved the variety mix we grew this past season. Pretty sure that was vista in the mix and that was our favorite!

    I inherited glads in my garden from the 1950s. I was pulling them because I considered them a funeral flower. But 2 years ago one managed to bloom. It is gorgeous. Combination of peach, purple and pink. Absolutely beautiful. I’ve decided “if you can’t beat them, join them” and let them do their thing. I hope for more blooms this year. I love your videos. You are so passionate and inspiring. Please continue you share with us gardeners.

    Many years ago, when I started gardening, I planted boxstore gladiolus bulbs in the front of a border and only 3 bloomed due to insect damage. I never spray chemicals so I just gave up on glads. After almost a decade I'm no longer afraid and ordered a cut flower garden mix, miss hippie which is lime green, and ray of sunshine blend.

    After the show I went on the hunt for Katherine and the Cream Perfection and found them in France. At 2 am in europe I made the order! Looking forward to see them in bloom. The Black Jack I spoke of looks so much like Expresso or Black Sea so maybe these are all the same variety. Now on the hunt for Costa!

    I like glads but the deer here LOVE them and it's not worth putting up a bunch of fencing to keep them from being eaten. I will sadly have to skip them this year (unless the corms I left in the ground come back?)

    What a great idea to take pictures of glads growing in your own garden and showing the sales photos. There definitely is a difference from what you think you're getting and what it looks like for real. I grew all my own flowers for my wedding and found the most gorgeous salmon colored glads , but when they flowered they were the most awful muddy orange and dirty pink I've ever seen. Learned my lesson😆😂

    I purchased a bunch of glads from longfield last year but only about half produced flowers 🤷‍♀️ I dug up and separated the corms to store this winter. Do you think the corms will produce blooms this year even if they did not last year? Cream perfection is gorgeous 🤩

      Hi friend! I would call customer service and let them know that. From what I have experienced they will make it right. Was it a specific variety that did not bloom at all? Or a widespread issues over multiple varieties? Did the corms produce a healthy daughter corm on top of the mother corm when you dug them?

    • @heaven_on_a_stem3345
      @heaven_on_a_stem3345 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NorthlawnFlowerFarm so sweet of you to reply. It was their sorbet blend so a few varieties within the blend. I believe the corms produced looked healthy. If they look healthy should I replant this year? I may try a new variety you shared in this video. I actually decided to give them a try last year after watching you

    Thanks for the great information. I have to agree with you that some of the flower catalog pictures don't look anything like a real life flower. They may not do it intentionally but you can end up with something totally different than what you were aiming for. You have some great choices for this year. I agree that the deeper tones often look better in fall arrangments. Thanks for sharing.

    For gladiolos with dark colors like espresso, if you want it blooming in fall when would be a good time to plant? I'm zone 5 and I'm aware you're 6b.

    • @NorthlawnFlowerFarm

      Hi Leidy! Most gladiolus are 90 days from planting to bloom. Some are 120. Plant approximately 3 months before you would like them to flower.

      @NorthlawnFlowerFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kelly! It's advisable to dig them in our zone, but I have always left them and they come back without fail. If I do have a thrip issue anywhere I will pull and dispose of that planting - corm and surrounding soil included. I hope you have a great day!

    I’m too late for Costa again this year! Same with Cream Perfection. I had limited success with trying to grow glads in crates last year. It was so disappointing. This year they’re going straight into the ground. I just wish I was a little quicker getting them ordered. Might just go with what’s available locally this year and see how it goes.

    • @NorthlawnFlowerFarm
      @NorthlawnFlowerFarm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to hear that Mary Jo! Do you mind if I ask what happened with the crate grown glads? I have very limited experience with that and would love to learn more.

      @@NorthlawnFlowerFarm I’m not exactly sure what happened. I also grew lilies in crates last year and they were amazing! We did have a very dry summer. My daughter grew hers in the ground and also didn’t have the abundance of blooms she’s had in the past, so we’re both blaming the weather for our glad fails last year!

    Love this video dedicated to Glads! I'm not a huge fan of espresso or the pink ballet tulle ruffly one as that one reminds me of spent blooms. The cream perfection and sugar plum looks absolutely stunning! I think the green star could look well in spring color bouquets 💐

    That pretty peach/yellow Green Star variety made me think of Easter immediately. A very summery, sunny, peaceful holiday. It makes me think of Steel Magnolias where you have that calm country town feel. Yes on the angels singing around Cream Perfection. It is so soft and feminine.
