I have a friend from Punjab, his story literally made me sad. His aunty (father's sister) who has been living in Canada since 2001, didn't even receive him from the airport.
When he arrived at their place, he realised that he was not welcomed at all. His cousins (born and raised in Canada) were very rude to him. Slept on the floor, the next morning they asked him to leave, he didn't even have a place to live.

Never Ever stay at your relatives house. It’s a nightmare. Stay with like minded people. Airbnb for first few weeks or a month is best. I made a biggest mistake of my life staying with my Close Family. Job Market was too bad when I arrived and first 5 Months I was jobless. My wife delivered a baby and she was hardly 30 days old. I was asked to find and leave ASAP. I walked for long hours in snow storm and found an apartment to rent by myself and walked 25+ Kms in snow. I am thankful to them but I would never recommend anyone to stay with knowns here in Canada or anywhere else in the world.

This is 100% true Sandy. I have never overstayed my welcome at anyone’s place until I stayed with my sister in law in Canada due to a similar situation like yours but trust me she and her husband were initially sweet but turned out to show their true colors. Which made me believe that you should never overstay your welcome at anyone’s place and especially your relatives or extended family. They spoil everything for you.

Same story happened with me. I would like to say never ever depend upon so called relatives. It’s better to come upon your own and grow on your own rather than to live with these type of people. I came as student lived with 2 years with relatives but it impacted so much my mental health. Relatives will just claim in India yes we have kept your child but inside story is horrible. It is difficult even to spend 1 second with these kind of toxic people who don’t understand that u came here as student + managing job and doing everything on your own. They just need a servant to do their work. I spotted this thing way long.

I went through the same situation almost 40 years ago. When I came to Canada. Sad part is that a new immigrant who not only face the enormous challenges of settling down in a new country. But also face so much criticism and resentment from the people he is supposed to trust. Upto this day those words of hate are fresh in my mind.

When i was in germany from 2017 to 2019 a friend of mine was intentionally said to leave the house one month before his actual date of completion of contract ... and he was about to become homeless and was in big tension, as soon as he told me i kept him in my place for almost 3 months for free . He used to cook food as well for me and even i also used to cook food for him and was very hard working as well but he was unable to find the job he needed. So he moved to UK.

There are a lot of people that face similar issue. When I came to Canada in 2023 mid, I used to stay with one of my fiend's family as I had no job. Although, I was paying them rent which includes accommodation and food, they used to give 2-3 day's food which was really torturing. Later with God's grace I got a job and moved out. One should be prepared for such experiences when they arrive in Canada as a student or without job. Like 2 faces of a coin , there are good and bad people in every race. If we learn to treat people good that can change their attitude/response towards us. Have a smiling face , respect others irrespective of their appearance/job they do and be humble, it will win the hardest hearts also. This is what I follow and it has benefitted me very much.

I came to the the same university. I didn’t knew anyone. So I stayed in the Hi Edmonton Hostel for two days. Good experience. Then some family distant relative, dentist by profession, from Vancouver, contacted me. I was totally shocked by her hospitality. She introduced me to one her trucker friend on phone. That guy took me to his house for next two days. That guy offered me food, house etc. I was amazed by his hospitality. He motivated me to do work hard. Guess what, he dropped me back to my new apartment. Didn’t asked single penny. The more I speak about him, the less it will be. Amazing person. So there is other side of the coin too. Not everyone is like that. I will be forever debited for the kindness he showed. 😊

Most of the people who comes to. Indian or Pakistani background have these kind of complaints the truth is mistakes from both sides. Living in Canada for over 50 years have done and seen every thing. I helped few family members but I was clear upfront . When someone call you from Canadian Airport and say please bring the biggest car we have 8 suitcases, while you were not even informed that they are coming with family, on visitors visa to hide or disappear in the country. This country is the most beautiful and helpful country for the immigrants. The example I have seen like this women have children and gave birth another one and have no husband . As Sha says common law relationship. Only speak Punjabi , she was taken care with health , dental, and every 2 weeks a taxi will take her for groceries and other things, she was aware of to say and do to get the maximum help from government and community people. We work very hard to establish our self and achieve highest degree in education. If someone come and start living like India or Pakistan. It will not be accepted because, wo have no cook or cleaner in the house and we have to pay for water , electricity, gas even garbage house taxes . Car is another big expense, and someone started using water or electricity or gas carelessly. It will bother us. Then we have to look for our old age , how we are going to support ourself. We don’t have father and grand father’s properties here. Canada was such a safe country now with open immigration crimes rate had jump. In lots of these cases I meant new immigrants involve.

All countries are different and not the same. If a person enjoys living in the country, there is no tiger. All countries and states are different. Canada is a big country. Both Sikhs and Hindus are very common population. People in Canada aren't all that bad. Because Canada has a large population of Woods, the population is small. The Government of Canada does not like war. Canada is the 8th most peaceful country in the world. Sounds like Switzerland. Canada has many democracies. Why is the population less? There are lgbtq the government gives life to people. Why is India not a Saturday and Sunday holiday? Festivals are more holidays in India. Rest of the countries are Saturday and Sunday holiday. Government of India and Government of Canada are not wrong. Because the dollar is very very expensive in Canada. India's population is high, many people go abroad because there is no land space.

Sorry to hear your story. But it is all very much expected and much worse than this happens indeed.
We all have our experiences. People don't have to be nice. They are not obligated.
If we ask for help and we get that...then we can only be grateful to them for our entire life.
And if they don't help or instead take advantage of us ... then we don't have a right to complain. It was our choice to seek help from them in first place.
I know it sucks to be this person and I have been that person only to come to terms with myself from my experiences and set clear rules for myself and not set any expectations from ANY human beings around me.
I have advised (only when they ask) friends not (depending on their situation) to come to Canada because I genuinely care. But that is not how it is perceived. This is not what they want to hear and they shrug it off. For the most part those who want to come here have a very distorted view of Canada or any other place.
You were aware, determined and hard working with the resolve to make it happen without compromising on your principles and morals. It is not the same for "most" of those who come to Canada or go elsewhere, seeking a flashy lifestyle without realizing what it takes to get there. In that there is a lot of humiliation, rejection, sweat involved that brings one down. When things don't go the way one wants to or how they had expected ...then they give up and get frustrated enough to commit suicides or resort to illegal activities.
Bottom line ... it is not for everyone so know yourself very well before taking the plunge.

I have a story to share. 5 girls were staying in apt out of which 4 were students n 1 on work permit. 2 of the girls used to call 2 boys at night. They would sometimes drink, smoke and talking is usual. Work permit girl (WPG) told them that you can stay up late on fri n sat but not other days as she has job at 8am. The other girls followed but cat fight started. On Thurs night, the guys came for drinking n smoking. WPG woke up n told them to leave as she has work. Guys left but other two girls when she slept switched on the room lights and started arguing, quarrelling, throwing stuff, even hitting etc. They threw away the work permit girl forcefully at 11 am out of the home. This was the biggest among all such girl fights.

I also had similar experiences of staying with relatives and housemates. You would meet some greedy landlords and people at work who would be envy of your appearance, character, family background or even success to some point. They would work hard to bring you ur morale down. More you would show politeness and humble behaviour to them they would be pissed off to see that you are unimpacted from outside but this would empty you from inside. And yes racism is there in Canada and sometimes you would see that if you’re someone who helps others you are just turning some of the people to your enemies. Moral of the story is don’t be open to everyone and you should not share everything with someone unless your gut tells you to do so. Nothing is more important than building yourself up and keeping your motivation high. Sometimes you might can live in a private room/apartment by paying extra just to keep up your mental health. Most importantly learn to stay by yourself and be happy.

My husband does this , everytime , and I was the primary applicant , I got married later when I already submitted all documents before even meeting him in life, after coming to canada , he becomes like a boss , even for grocery he is way too kanjoos .. he even beaten me up multiple times for no reason.
And his parents are completely indifferent . He don’t want to do job , only want to depend on food delivery , and don’t even contribute for rent and phone bills , not even helping me in house chores ,
And I am still living with him.

My mother was in USA while me & my brother stayed in India till she sponsored us while we were just children, to live with her in USA.
After about a year, she got severely emotionally abusive toward me. She was not the same mother I knew in India. She turned into a stranger, a monster, after 1 year apart from her family. As her own child she can’t tell me to leave even though she wanted to and even I couldn’t leave as a child knowing no one in USA but own parents. The emotional abuse can only cause a child to implode and have a nervous breakdown.
😢Yes they do Change their colors after living in USA. As an adult now, that relationship was broken after arriving in USA & can never be repaired.

This is the story of every newcomer, whether you immigrated as PR or came with student permit. There are always good and bad relatives and friends. First one year is always difficult during which you adjust to new culture and environment. So come prepared for all these challenges. In these times of social media, you can learn and know lot of things before moving to a new country. You must do your home work. And more important, just don't believe these youtubers. Cross check their information. Canada is the best country to live and raise your family. Always keep trying to improve your skills and education.

Sandy, you are a genuine person. I'm coming to Canada soon. And your videos have helped me a lot in my preparations.
Sandy, I am a Muslim from Pakistan. We are planning to choose Vancouver for our permanent stay as an immigrant on PR. kindly give your honest review about our choice. We are a family of 5. Me, my husband, and three kids.
We want to live a peaceful life without facing any racism. Is vancouver a better option than GTA? For newcomers like us?

Very sorry to hear that, God has given you the power to bear all these nonsense people. There was a time when I had a same bad experience with my own brother and his family, I was a new then and it was time of lockdown. I used to pay them 500 dollar just to sleep on matteress with sharing to my nephew....and one day when they used my documents to get mortgage for new and big house after moving to new house, first they increased the monthly charges to me which was 600 on sharing with other one in a small room and slowly one day they told me to get out from our house. I said, I am also 1% owner as me tinned in the paper, this house. But nothing happened and I was on road for few hours but luckily same day I got new room nearby to my work place through kijiji....and since then I have been living independently..... a long story to tell my bad experiences with my own and twin brother and his family......

3cr house is nothing in Canada, it will be just a 2 bedroom apartment. And they are giving you right suggestion, people who are already here can't go back as they have invested so much. But its wise to give good advice to people who are asking for suggestions instead of just showing the rosy picture. Life is too hard in Canada especially for educated people due to lack of jobs. But i would admit if you are a blue collar worker back in India then your life will be better in Canada.
