This is serious because of the difference between China and the USA. The USA already earned the reputation of saying one thing and doing something else. But China would not say anything if it is unable to do it.

As an American, it’s refreshing to hear the view & wisdom of this seasoned Australian diplomat. I wish Washington would forego pride & listen to this man.
Two things: China is fostering multipolarity with its foreign policy grounded in Deng Xiaoping's 5 principles of international relations, which are: 1. Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. 2. Mutual non-aggression. 3. Mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs. 4. Equality and mutual benefit. (win-win economic development and trade) 5. Peaceful co-existence. Contrast this with the U.S. foreign policy of "Full Spectrum Dominance," zero-sum exploitation of countries in the global south by utilizing IMF and World Bank debt traps and imposing the Washington Consensus of privatization of public enterprises and structural adjustment, which prioritizes the demands of foreign creditors above the health, educational, housing, and nutritional needs of populations. Second, China is pushing back against U.S. military aggression. The U,S. is building missile bases aimed at China from one end of the First Island Chain to the other; it is sailing warships through the Taiwan Strait, selling arms to Taiwan, sending high level officials to visit Taiwan on a state-to-state basis, and stating publicly that the U.S. will defend Taiwan militarily if attacked by China (China's aim is to reunite with Taiwan peacefully); the U.S. is also encouraging Japan, Australia and South Korea to adopt a hostile, armed posture toward China. Contrast this with China's 5 principles, which are day-and-night in comparison to the hostile, aggressive, militaristic posture of the U.S. and its vassals toward China.
_"Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty."_ - Except when it comes to Russia invading Ukraine or China and the South China sea, etc, etc?

Such moves have heightened fears and tensions with countries like Vietnam and the Philippines. China is using military and economic coercion to bully its neighbors & threaten maritime shipping lane. This predatory conduct increases the risk of miscalculation & thus warrant US’ intervention.

@Cheng-Tso HsiehThey were simply responding to the US's accusations. The US has over 700 military bases around the world. China has less than 8. The US has well trained expeditionary forces to go anywhere in the world...great for invading countries. China's military is built and trained to defend, not invade. Just about everything he said was 100% wrong. The Americans only came out with the claim China is thinking of selling weapons to Russia with any evidence whatsoever as soon as China came out with its 12 point peace plan for the Ukraine War. This was a concerted effort by the US to thwart the Chinese peace plan because they want this war to continue as long as possible since they think this was will weaken Russia. The US does not want peace in Ukraine. That is why they try to demonize China's character and position in this conflict and peace plan. He also failed to assess that the War is not going badly to Russia as the Western Media is portraying it to go. The Ukranians have lost well over 200 000 soldiers in comparison to Russia's around 16 000 to 20 000. The Ukrainians are about to collapse as Bakhmut is about to fall. And as soon as Bakhmut falls the Russians are going to have an open door from Bakhmut all the way to the Diniper River to possibly set Kiev on Siege and go for Odessa. If any of the above takes place Ukraine is finished as a state and the West will be in a world of trouble in its plan to defeat Russia.

The United States is the wealthiest country in the world and have the most powerful military for the last seventy-eight years. This led some Americans to believe that they are exceptional and that there are natural laws that ensure their position as the number one nation on earth forever. As such, the US feels justified to use all necessary means to maintain its dominance and will take any steps necessary to prevent any potential rivals from growing too strong. CIA was involved in covert operations that resulted in mass killings of communists in over 22 countries. More than 500,000 innocent Indonesian civilians disappeared in 1965-1966. To make the world safe for democracy, the US has caused the deaths of over 12 million people in its conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. China believes that a multipolar world is essential for global development, where every country has the opportunity to realize its full economic potential. This approach emphasizes cooperation between nations rather than competition, to achieve a shared vision of prosperity for all. While the US prioritizes its position as the sole superpower, China advocates for a more inclusive and cooperative approach that allows for the development of all nations. In the last forty-four years, the Chinese military has not used its weapons to kill a single person outside its territory. China will not be lured into war. The US has chronic domestic problems, including a national debt of over $31 trillion, economic inequality, inflation, healthcare, education, racial inequality, mass incarceration, infrastructure, housing affordability, homelessness, the opioid epidemic, and gun violence. The country's political leaders are deeply divided and hostile to each other. Both parties have identified China as their "most consequential threat" and the source of their problems. Many believe that China must be weakened before it becomes any stronger. The US is using Taiwan to provoke China into a war and preparing to fight in that manner. The US population is whipped up to see Chinese threats everywhere. A weather balloon is seen as a threat, as is a port crane and even TikTok. Sanction chopsticks, noodles, and sewing machines, they have dual uses. Chopsticks could poke someone's eyes and blind them, noodles could be fed to PLA soldiers, and sewing machines could be used to make military-grade uniforms. China is Australia's largest trading partner, outpacing the combined purchases of the next three. Our export to China stands at 10.4% of our GDP. Our military budget is less than 2% of our GDP. AUKUS is a tactical masterstroke, leveraging our robust trade surplus with China and spending $368 billion to acquire Virginia-class nuclear-powered hunter-killer fast-attack submarines to attack our biggest trading partner. With the deployment of these submarines, we have the power to bring their entire global sea-borne trade to a standstill, at any moment of our choosing. If another country stations its military on your territory and you have no control over that military, then you become a client state of that country. This means that they do not trust you to remain loyal and that you have surrendered your sovereignty to that country, especially if you do not station your military in that country. The US stations its military in all of its allies, and as a result, these client states do as they are told by their patron. Gough tried to have an independent foreign policy, and John Pilger has a lot to say about how he was dismissed. To maintain its position as number one forever, the US must weaken all potential rivals, even if they are allies. All of its European allies are now significantly weakened by the US, and not one of them dares to complain. The US bombed NordStream 1 and 2, and Germany remained silent. Therefore, the US has no allies, only client states. The US needs allies for political cover to legitimize its wars. The US creates enemies for its allies so that it can protect them from those enemies, and in return, the allies buy weapons from the US. Most US allies contribute financially to the upkeep of US military forces on their territories.
Kevin Rudd? Double headed "Chinese" expert. Most Chinese gave up their delusions on this guy. We thought he could be a bridge, but he is still European centric in essence.
The thing is that, China Russia and India will never listen to U.S, U.S can longer demand something on the position of strength against this countries, on the other hand India, Russia and China have mutual respect to one another .
Look at the 12 point peace plan by china on Ukraine issue. China peace plan satisfies everybody except usa. Serious jabs on usa. Likewise breakthrough between Saudi Arabia and iran
If China wants to continue with its economic development, it could not and should not create confrontation with any country. It is more obvious with Russia than with any other countries because of its border with Russia. All countries inclding Rudd understand that very clearly. Therefore should any countries attempting to create conflicts between China and Russia are doing that with a highly quesionable motive. I have always followed Kevin's analysis. I was suprised and indeed diasppointed that he did not mention this critical concept in this interview.
it not about what China want to do, if a foreign power is clearly trying to take your territory away, you have no choice but to defend yourself. what US need be clear about now is that it will not challenge Chinese sovereignty. China doesn't support Russia and continue to recognize Ukraine sovereignty over Crimea is because China expect the West to continue to recognize China sovereignty over Taiwan. if NATO demonstrate it is selective in honoring sovereignty, China will return the favor in kind. it is really about mutual respect, you want China out of Ukraine, than stay out of China.
US Way of War Propaganda and Starting a War Step 1: extremely aggressive toward XYZ country, demonise its people , its products and its leadership. Step 2: XYZ country is upset and response to it. Step 3: frame XYZ country as " aggressive, a big threat", etc. Step 4: run through steps 1 - 3 again and again each time raising the stakes and ratcheting up tensions. Also start making plans for a “color revolution” Wrote by Master Hill Examples: WMDs in Iraq, Gulf of Tonkin incident before Vietnam War

I sense Kevin had changed his tone on China since he was appointed as an ambassador or whatever position he is employed on the US side. Don't blame him ! Fair is fair. China is being pushed (by US) to a position that could cause both side into confrontation. In respond to the US war of words, China still managed to respond in dialogue that the US might understand. Wisdom? 😂😂😂😂😂
Two things:
China is fostering multipolarity with its foreign policy grounded in Deng Xiaoping's 5 principles of international relations, which are:
1. Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
2. Mutual non-aggression.
3. Mutual non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
4. Equality and mutual benefit. (win-win economic development and trade)
The US doesn't own and operate institutions like the IMF and World Bank.
_"Mutual respect for each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty."_ - Except when it comes to Russia invading Ukraine or China and the South China sea, etc, etc?

This was a concerted effort by the US to thwart the Chinese peace plan because they want this war to continue as long as possible since they think this was will weaken Russia.
The US does not want peace in Ukraine.
That is why they try to demonize China's character and position in this conflict and peace plan.
He also failed to assess that the War is not going badly to Russia as the Western Media is portraying it to go.
The Ukranians have lost well over 200 000 soldiers in comparison to Russia's around 16 000 to 20 000.
The Ukrainians are about to collapse as Bakhmut is about to fall.

It's called US empire and full spectrum dominance by any means necessary
Kelvin always try to sound rational and reasonable in his speech on China, US relationships but he is actually very biased and pro US
The United States is the wealthiest country in the world and have the most powerful military for the last seventy-eight years.
Most US allies contribute financially to the upkeep of US military forces on their territories.

it not about what China want to do, if a foreign power is clearly trying to take your territory away, you have no choice but to defend yourself. what US need be clear about now is that it will not challenge Chinese sovereignty.

It's obvious where Rudd's bread is buttered now to use Rudd's own terminology when describing Chinese officials. Now he's working for aus gov under albo and Wong, who basically have the exact same pro USA policy as Morrison, Murdoch and co.
Ever since he went to work for US based/funded think tank based in NYC, Asia society, rudd has clearly been developing us contacts and networks in state department and diplomatic channels, helping him get the job of Australia's ambassador to the US.
Now he has to get in line and just repeat albo govs talking points, which is also in line with us govs talking points. Ie "rules based order" but he will never mention or criticize USA for not even ratifying UNCLOS, or USA threatening icc investigators while supporting war crime charges against Putin. That shows a clear bias. He cannot criticize usa in the same objective and unbiased manner that he criticizes china for(or least he tries to be objective).

Thank you Kevin your service to your community both local and worldwide is deeply appreciated
Kevin Rudd has so much insight and a brilliant politician. 👏
We don't understand what is world order but we have been listening from American politicians and Media saying world Order what is world order there is more than 200 hundreds country around world they haven't been saying a single word world Order only US is saying world order what that meant too where is the UN body?
US brought this onto itself
Yea USA made china the despicable imperial dictator country it is...
No one is scared of China. NATO will wipe china off the map if it comes to it
The balloon blow up was a bit much.
@UUBrahman US started trade wars first and endless slandering China since Bush. A little balloon is nothing compared to what US do for their espionage.
@@alexv1190 in your dream, do you the US would not take action if it sees benefit from starting war with China outweigh the potential cost? the US is a wuss only dare to bully the small countries.

Only time will tell.
KEVIN why no mention of most problems caused by whom???
Kevin has changed from a balanced academia to a US contained China propagandist… after nominated as AU ambassador to US… Losing respect from
China he once had…. Sad
KRud is 100% on.
Let’s hope he can guide the US away from their aggressive approach to everything foreign policy.. but if not, at least help the Australians not follow the US down the drain.
Well said !
K Rudd is not spot on . . He is representing his own interests. If we move close to China that puts him in a good position as the one who made AUSTRALIA betray our allies. That's never going to happen. CCP are not our friends, when the CCp leaves then we will think about even going back to business as usual. Insulting to assume we would even consider such nonsense 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
@@raymondparnell439 by we assume you mean Australia.
And by your comment I gather you understand nothing about Australian economics, foreign trade, etc.
You think the US would have our back?
Ask the wheat and barely exporters who were replaced when Saddam was toppled only for Iraq to only import from US at a higher price. Australia’s number one importer was Iraq.
The US, Republicans largely, fuked their own international standing over the last 10+ years, firstly economically by forcing a government shut down with Obama (and it’s about to happen again soon), and then destroying their global hegemony by electing an isolationist in Trump. Biden has also been sleeping. He dropped the ball both with Saudi and Iran, focusing on their little proxy war with Ukraine, creating instability.
In parallel China has grown and is now well and truly on par with the US. Projected to have a bigger economy in a year or two, and slowly taking a greater lead role in international diplomacy, eg. Ukraine and Iran-Saudi.
Unfortunately Australia is destined to go down the drain with the US, but as the global powers shift I hope KRud can guide the Australian Government to take a more neutral stance instead of blindly joining the US down whatever aggression they think will help them beat China down again.
@@raymondparnell439 Please don't be so jealous of Mr. Kevin Rudd. He will save this world from WW3.
Wise and intelligent man. Did not know him before.
Kevin Rudd is the wisest and the most intelligent white man. You'd better worship him. Australia is the best among Westerners. The queen selected the best genes of Anglo-Saxon and sent them to Australia for storage in order to save the West in the future. Australians are the smartest and most intelligent white race. Australia is the only victor in the West. The Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Afghanistan War, Australia is the winner in all. The US will obey Australia's ideas. West will be great again under Australians' command.
@user-vp1vl6yp9t 😅 This sarcastic comment is an interesting description of the rating you have for the Australian foreign politics...
He lost some weight recently. Looks younger
We are not spending our hard earned money on the American cumbersome old submarines and out dated technology .. we will not becoming a target 🎯 for the Russian and the Chinese nuclear weapons.. American defence industries ambitions are over their head.. and they must be stop 🛑..
He is fluent in mandarin
Your knowledge on sino affairs is pretty amazing big kev! Respect.
You mean husband bulls.
To some not so.
Good choice for Australia to have mr Rudd as ambassador very level headed gentleman .
Kevin Rudd is someone who understands China better than most of the politicians around the world. He speaks fluent Chinese and has actual experience while he was living in China.
You forgot to mention he was the worst prime minister in Australian history 😂
In the interests of balance, you might point out that Rudd was dumped as leader by his own party, with any number of colleagues and former staff testifying to his aggressive bullying away from the cameras, and his violent foul-mouthed temper when anyone dared stand up to him. And you might also mention in the interests of balance that as a left-wing Prime Minister he lectured the world on climate change and rising sea levels, only to recently buy a $17m absolute beachfront property in tropical northern Australia. He obviously doesn't take his own alarmist climate rhetoric seriously, but apparently we are supposed to. Overall he's left wing and he speaks Chinese, so let's just ignore his bullying and his hypocrisy and agree that he's perfect for the CNN audience.

I hope there is some real substance hidden under that sickening supplication to the US hegemon. Of course it is a style adopted to stay in the rulers club and out of sight from Australian rabid pro war media, but, play the role too deep and you lose yourself.
As an Aussie you gonna Pay 368 Billion Dollars for AUKUS Nucleaire Submarines to defend Ayers Rock.😂😂😂
Look like Rudd have been given a carrot 🥕..😂 hmmmm
I do not concur with Kevin Rudd statement that it could have been the tough local economic that rendered Xi to take a hardline on US. If one understands the power structure of China, he will agree that Xi doesn't have to divert the focus of his people. More so, look at this year GDP forecast at 5.2%, among the highest of all.
Grateful to have such a solid individual on board as Ambassador! Cheers Kevin!
Take this blokes words with a pinch of salt. As PM he squandered a 20 Billion dollar surplus on insulation batts and a list of Green schemes.
Defence under his government was well down the list.
One of our long term goals should be doing away with nationalism. Being stuck on this tiny dot in the universe fighting over some dirt is embarrassing.
The world powers have to implement the ICC...none of them have.
Well said. BTW, I don't think China wants to become the global hegemon like United Satans of AmeriKKKa and those Anglo-Saxons want!! If China did want, they would have been one for centuries, even millennia, in the human history!!
Yep. It's not helpful
Agree and disagree. Agree with what you said, but also feel that diversity of cultures gives way to new lines of thinking and problem solving.
@@mattchew5965 nothing is lost culturally through cooperation.
it's simply a win.
Lol people think Rudd sounds reasonable by blaming China for this conflict and America simply responding. No, a reasonable person on China would be another Aussie former pm Paul keating.
Good work Kevin eumundi school students wish you well no place like home cheers
Kevin Rudd, the man who is 100% Australia/NATO while acting like he isnt.. He is a pillow politian.
Kevin has a talent for eloquent jibberish. He proposes 'mechanisms' and his latest favourite word 'guard rails' to be apply internationally yet couldn't implement simpler versions of the same in his own government; which was a sh#tshow from the get go.
Bang on! He was a incompetent leader and his party was a complete failure.
The Rudd government may have been a bit of a dogs breakfast but it was exponentially better than the series of LNP grifters since. Plus the Rudd government navigated the GFC better than any other country. Compared with Scomo and Pals who "lost" $45 billion in corporate covid payments, plus another $2 billion payout for the robodebt fiasco. Rudd isn't perfect by a country mile, but he's certainly better than your comment makes out.

I think the point is you can find Human Rights issues in China, the USA and even Australia
With regard to the last statement on wars and partnerships even into the 21st century, I don’t see Australia helping the U.S defend Taiwan, it’s not in their economic and geopolitical interest that’s why their sending him there to discuss and promote containment and not war. China’s military is too big and deadly for even any country in Asia to attack, I also think they (China) will adopt Sun tzu’s approach, quick and decisive war
@odera- despite US's provocation, China still envision a peaceful reunification-ya!
Taking the temperature down is going to work for everyone except the US/West bcos 40yrs of business as usual has seen China almost eclipse the US in economic and military potential. The West knows this and their aim is to actively suppress Chinese potential. So the temperature will inevitably go up.
This is an incredibly informative video. Thank you, Kevin Rudd, for giving us a deeper understanding of the complex U.S - China relations.
The two faced Kevin is trying to twist
Mr. Rudd forgot that US saw China as a strategic competitor back to Bush's first term, nevertheless 9.11 changed everything. China lend helping hands in anti-terrorism effort and 08 financial crisis.
