    What a beautiful car! Jaguar XJ’s are such beautiful saloons and they really mean a lot to me. I grew up with a 2006 Jaguar Sovereign and I just loved that car so much. But you can already see how much work Ford and Daimler put into Jaguar.

    For the uninformed: Ford Motor Co.purchased Jaguar in 1989 and sold Jaguar in 2009, during that time they improved the quality and reliability of the marque. They did the same for Aston Martin and Volvo. Sadly, the uninformed continue to spread urban myth nonsense about the car. Most Jaguar XJs during Ford's ownership (not direct management) were extremely reliable and rate very high in customer reviews. I loved my pre-Ford 1967 XK-E type, my1988 XJ6 but really love my 1995 6.0 XJS cvt., my 1995 XJ12, and my 2006 XJ8. The Jaguar XJs had only 2 serious flaws which were fairly quickly addressed. The 1998 and 1999 engines had Nikasil plated cylinders for improved economy. Unfortunately, the high sulfur content in some types of gasoline would erode the coating and result in compression loss. The other issue was during the same approximate period of production which was the use of composite timing chain tensioners which were prone to failure in higher mileage, maintenance neglected cars. The tensioners were replaced with metal to prevent future failures.

      Yeah, I got a silver '04 Jaguar XJ8. And I love it. I chose the normally aspirated version because the superchargers can go out and be very expensive to fix. What I don't get in this video though, is the name Daimler. I thought Daimler was affiliated with Mercedes Benz. But maybe Daimler came back in Europe and bought 853 supercharged XJ8s and put the name Daimler on them? To me it's still not quite the same without that awesome Jaguar symbol.

      Had two 2001 Vanden Plas both saved my life in accidents not of my doing. I now own an XJR formerly owned by a Jaguar technician who had a need for speed . The car is to all appearances just a fine example of the first year all aluminum XJR . As I was told when I purchased it , " It isn't civilized in town " being an understatement . I have drove away from new american cars at over 170 mph . The previous owner told me it is a true 200 mph car and only limited by tires as sold . I believed him as at 175+ it was still . . . . .' uncivilised ' . It also has sport shocks and a race set up alignment . Appearance is the same as the cat in the video except mine has a the leaping Leopard on the bonnet . Oh , has 72,000 miles and is always garaged without blemish throughout.

    • @OrnumCR
      @OrnumCR 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hmmm...no..not at all. Daimler is (or was) the oldest motor manufacturer in the UK dating from 1896. A certain Frederick Simms I believe, bought patent rights from Gottlieb Daimler in Germany to build his engines in the UK. From there, the British Daimler car developed becoming the choice of Royalty for decades. This was all done completely separately from Daimler-Benz in Germany. Daimler was eventually purchased from BSA by Jaguar Cars in 1960, and therein is the ‘Jaguar’ link. So...you had British Daimler and German Daimler...as Mercedes-Benz...

      @@OrnumCR That is all correct. Thanks for answering the question. I often am asked that by folks in the US who are not aware of the difference. Yes it means this. 853 units of the Daimler Super Eight (Jaguar X350 SuperV8) has been built from 2006 till 2009 worldwide. Funny enough that plenty of them are available in Germany, Austria etc. for very reasonable money. Unsellable for more than 20.000.- euros though.
      Amazing car but lots of cheap material used as any part inside looking like chrome is actually cheap foiled plastic, no joke! I was driving this car and could not believe my eyes when I realized how much cheap interior has been used from Ford for this car. The old X300 had much better material, better leather better wood better everything indeed!

    • @johntechwriter
      @johntechwriter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +houseofwine I'm puzzled by your comments about "cheap" interior materials. It's a common misconception among non-Jaguar fans that the XJ sedans incorporated Ford engines. (The AJ-V8 was 100 percent British developed and is still going strong in the new generation of Jaguars.) But claiming Ford parts were used for the interiors is a new one! Please cite an example.
      One of the attractions of my 2001 X-308 VDP Supercharged was its significantly upgraded interior (compared with regular XJs). The walnut veneers were butterfly-matched throughout and incorporated boxwood inlays. (X-308 wordwork was done at the Coventry plant by craftspeople brought over when Jag bought Vanden Plas.) The VDP used leather on many surfaces where the XJ used soft plastic -- and it was genuine Connolly leather, too. And then there are those gorgeous lambs wool carpets. And the picnic trays.
      I could go on, but let me end here by stating my opinion: nobody does interiors like the Brits. Then AND now.

    • @stratfordbaby

      I'm satisfied with the interior of my 07 XJR. Wish I had a bit more leg room up front (not at the expense of the virtually zero rear legroom) but everything continues to work as it should with minimal repairs from time to time. Nothing major. It's been a pleasure to own.
