You are so right. There is nothing quite like a good walk in the woods!! That area you are in is so beautiful. Did you come up to the trailhead from Ashfield? I've gone up that road on a mountain bike then shouldered the bike walking back to Translator Lane on the AT then ride back down to Mountain Road. Is that South Trail well blazed? Some pretty amazing geology!! Wow! How could anyone possibly justify graffiti in a place like that? Same goes for Bake Oven Knob. You're spot on, total loser did that. I really need to get up there now that autumn color is here. I was in Jim Thorpe on Tuesday along Flagstaff road shooting some photos of the creek and colors are just showing up. It's gonna be a beautiful autumn! Thanks for taking us along!! Have a great weekend.
Yes I came up from the south side of the mountain Ashfield Rd. It was a little easier going down when I knew what to expect, there is always that nervousness driving on a rough road the first time not knowing what's around the next bend. The trail is very well blazed and easy to follow though not easy! I definitely think Fall is arriving early this year. Have a great weekend as well Charlie!
My knees aren't so great myself. I do feel like the climbing and scrambling adds something extra to the experience. An easy dirt path through the same environs would have been just fine but the rocks add something extra to this trail... It seems that I actively seek out these kinds of trails.
Awesome. Isn't it amazing how many trails we hike and every time hitting the trail makes us smile and happy. You had me scared hiking that late in the day. Didn't want you hurrying on the rocks. Nice drone shots. Stupid graffiti 😢. Very cool 👍🙂🙏
Hi Walter. First, I appreciate the way you took this loop hike and made it so special. I consider it special for these reasons: 1. two unique trails (AT and South Trail) 2. The wonderful views from the rocks, and how nice they look as a trail in their own 3. Your excellent filming and narration 4. The spirit you convey in how happy you were to be there I have a series on my youtube channel called "Walking in Creation - Hiking the AT". I too feel a calling to share the beauty of the Lord's Creation with others. I have some of the same feelings you expressed when hiking and filming and producing a video. I recall two of your videos in particular that were very enjoyable: - Hike south on the AT from Lehigh Gap to those wonderful views on the relocation - Your excellent video on the Dolly Sods loop I look forward to more. Keep up the great work, and God Bless!
Wow, thanks for that amazing and detailed comments! It's a joy for me to be able to share my experiences with others, and if they can gain some type of insight or knowledge or enjoyment from them then all the better. I will have to go check out your channel!
I really love the rocky trails, both as a hiker and especially as a filmmaker/creator. It can be hard to get creative in Pennsylvania when most every trail is a green tunnel. I mean honestly no one loves trees more than me but there is only so many different ways you can show a trail through the woods lol.! 😆
You are right about a walk in the woods or nature. It rejuvenates the soul. When hiking you never know what is around the corner. Lots of beautiful surprises on this one.
Well said Cathy and so true! I am always eagerly anticipating what is ahead on a trail, especially one that is new to me. This one really delivered. Hope you have a nice day.
You were right in my backyard! That is a beautiful section and in fact there are plans in the works for the coming year to reroute the A.T. through that section much like they did with the North trail a couple years ago. I think we actually have a trail work day scheduled next month to do some prep work. The section from Lehigh Furnace Gap to Blue Mountain road is the best section of A.T. in PA. Really enjoyed this Walter.
Thanks for that information and update Ronman! I have to say I am a bit surprised by that. Although I found the section to be absolutely awesome and enjoyable, it was simply a day hike for me. I find it hard to believe that actual thruhikers would be happy to learn that another section of the AT in PA is being directly routed into never ending rocks lol! Thanks again for all that you do, and I do believe this loop along with the north loop and the climb east out of Lehigh Gap are three of the very best hikes in Eastern Pennsylvania!
Not really other than my cell phone which many times I am out of service area anyway. I always carry my Buck knife on my side. Just recently on my trip to the Adirondacks I ran into a potentially bad situation. I should look into those GPS devices. I truly appreciate your concern.
Thanks for the video on the South Trail. That will be my next section hike when the weather clears. Also a Philly guy from Queen Village now in Rhawnhurst in NE Philly. Great video's, thanks.
Finally getting to sit down and unwind after the whirlwind of the last month of traveling and what not, always great to sit down and crack a cold one to one of your videos man, well done as always.
How do you have the time to do anything lol. Your living the life brother , congrats again on everything, hopefully see you out there on the trail again soon.
You know I love these kinds of trails as well. It's hard to find places to get decent drone shots in Eastern PA, but this place is tailor made for them. Thanks so much brother!
You should check out Wolf rocks and the knife's edge they're very similar. The drone footage is really cool I want to get me one of them sometime. Great video
Thanks brother. I have been to both but it has been awhile. I love the Knifes Edge, your right it's a great section, this trail reminded me of that a bit.
@@WALTERZOLNA on the Appalachian trail if you go north you cross over the tunnel for the turnpike and a little ways past that there's another loop that goes to the left if I can remember it was a 2 mi loop and almost the whole trail was an overlook You probably have done it already but it's really pretty cool
@@Dwvideos yes, that's one of my top 5 favorite trails! I did a video on it called the "Golden Mile". The AT was rerouted a few years ago so that the side trail with all the views is now the actual route of the AT.
Such an incredibly beautiful spot...looks like I have another "Walter inspired walkabout" to di! It is sad that these places are ruined by graffiti 😢.... Nature is very therapeutic...cheers!
It's a neat trail, check it out if you can. I have heard that the AT is going to be rerouted so that this side trail becomes the official AT route. Not sure if the thru hikers will appreciate yet more Pennsylvania rocks to deal with though!
What an interesting terrain. You have to have good balance to navigate those rock fields. Those large rock formations were very cool. Thanks for taking us along.
I have become pretty good with my foot coordination and balance over the years I must admit. The shots where I am walking and talking are the trickiest, many of those small to midsize rocks were wobbly. It's very few places to get open expanses in Pennsylvania, I love these kinds of trails.
You got that right brother!!! Sometimes I feel like my channel is about - on a really deep physcological level - about me trying to find balance and harmony in my life, and in a way every episode is kind of like a therapy session playing out... Hmmm....
Additional Comment for Graffiti: I saw this at High Rock in Maryland. A wonderful view across the Creation, but somewhat spoiled by those who have no respect for much of anything. Most people comment on how bad it is. I've also seen a few comments that say it is an expression of art. An easel and a simple canvas is an appropriate place to express oneself. In the example seen towards the end of this hike, not only is a disgusting distraction from the beauty of the rocky terrain, but vulgar and totally unnecessary. As a 71-year old grandfather, I see it as another example of how some in our society completely lacks discipline. And, it all starts in the home. By the way, that example did nothing to detract my empathizing and rejoicing with Walter in his wonderful expression of joy being in the Creation. God Bless all!
Great video! I really enjoyed watching it. 👍43
Thanks my friend, your support is greatly appreciated!
Really beautiful and I hope your arm is ok
It's fine, thanks for asking!

Thanks for taking us along, Walter. The views were spectacular, but the rocks made my old feet and knees ache just watching you.

I am glad and grateful for your joining me out on the trail, thanks Diane.
I'm always amazed at the places you highlight on your channel. What an interesting and rocky trail and I had no idea it was right near the tunnel.
I know crazy right? I think there is only like one or two other videos out on this trail , it's like hiding in plain site.

❤so fun to watch you hike and be so happy!❤😊🎉 beautiful trails and views!!!
I was definitely in a good mood on that day Debbie. Perfect weather and a new exciting trail to take on. That is a recipe for happiness for me!
Amazing views, just wondering if you carry something to alert someone if something happens on the trail? Stay safe and happy hiking ❤

@WALTERZOLNA we've also been looking into them also we carry a horn
Great hikes ahead and stay safe
Im giong to the cliffs trail. Tomorrow hope the weather is good enough to hike and see the views thanks for sharing these great places. 👍
Awesome, hope you have a great time, I love that place!

Spring nd and Fall are my favorites.
Great video - I like the back and forth style between vlog and visuals.👍
Sorry I missed your comment, thanks so much for the feedback and checking out the video!
great video thanks for sharing
Thanks so much for watching and leaving some comments!
Keep smiling you have a dimple smile.
People say I have a nice real smile. My put on fake smile not so much lol 😆
@@WALTERZOLNA you are funny too. A whole package.
@@WALTERZOLNA I need to find my fake smile right now but I can’t find it.
Another astounding video! I love rocky trails like that (even though my knees don't). What a great vista at the end.
Lol, well put. My knees are not in great shape either. It's the long steep downhills that really cause me problems. Appreciate your watching brother!
I like this vlog style from you!

It's probably one of the handful of things that angers and frustrates me the most. Truly maddening...
why is the the landform all of those types of rocks?
They are eroded over millions of years, the mountain was once much taller.
