Well, they look like that because H&M jeans look like those jeans. Fast-fashion brands like H&M just copy trends and kind of ruins them, since everybody is going to be more familiar with H&M's jeans, since they're a larger company than most high-quality brands.

I absolutely love this type of video! It was very thought out and did not seemed rushed. I loved how you are sharing so much information about an article of clothing almost everybody owns, but doesn't know much about. Hopefully you do more comparison videos like this since fast-fashion based brands are so heavily saturated in the market nowadays people don't know where the ideas originally come from. Buying higher quality pieces, investing in your wardrobe, is actually much cheaper over the long run. Definitely subscribing to see more content like this keep it up Teen Vogue.

The way I justify jeans is cost per wear. I bought 198$ black jeans. I wore them every day for 10 months and barely any change. I can make those jeans last so much longer. I bought H&M jeans and they lasted maybe 3ish months with minimal wearing. So if I have to buy new jeans every 3-4 months at 40$ as compared to spending 198$ that’ll last over 2 ish years I spend less overall on the high end

Over in England a pair of Levi 501's would set you back £82.
I don't know what that is in dollars but I'm guessing it's not cheap.
Tesco supermarket used to sell them for £35 and Levi's took legal action to stop them, saying it was "against the tradition of Levi's" to sell them so cheaply.
      Yeah right.
Quite frankly it doesn't matter what you wear as long as it fits well, looks good and represents value for money.
I can assure you there is nothing a pair of jeans could do for me that's worth £82.

People have gotten rediculous. And then cry they can’t afford rent, minimum wage should go up, why, so you can buy $150 jeans because your friends or neighbors have them? They probably can’t afford them either. Everyone going broke bc they are worried what others think. It’s gross. This country is so sad.

Raw thick denim feels better and is better quality which means it will last you longer and look better generally. I pay about $20-$40 for jeans. No more. I rather get used good quality jeans for $10 thrifting though.

The surest way to tell the quality of your jeans is by the quality of the fabric. You can have quality stretch jeans but make sure they're thick enough. 12-16oz denim the range to go for. Any less is basically shirting, any higher you probably won't be able to move! XD You can't have non-stretch skinny jeans for the same reason. :) The first two pairs: the cheaper ones were women's and they tend to have more stretch to fit our more varied shapes; the other were mens and men tend to wear their jeans looser so they don't need as much stretch, and because their jeans are looser-fitting there is less difficulty in getting a good fit. Benjamin uses stretch jeans in his brand.
Stitch length: 8 SPI is advised but any smaller than that on a medium to heavy weight denim would be silly. You don't want any bigger than that unless it's a styling choice. The stitching should be neat and firm (but not tight).
Rips and distressing aren't reliable indicators of quality. Some expensive jeans, for example quality raw selvedge will not have whiskers in the store! Not everyone wants that so only offering it would be commercial suicide.
And selvedge isn't a sure sign of quality anymore: I believe there are cheaper ones available. A zip fly isn't either: I've seen them in Primark, and I've seen good quality zips in other stores. It's purely a matter of preference. There are construction methods that are better indicators of quality but this doesn't seem to be reflected in the price, and you'd have to know what you're looking for.
All denim gives as you wear it, but in varying degrees. Get your jeans so they're snug but not tight, rather than getting ones that "fit perfectly" in the store or you will be pulling them up later.
Look for fabric that's strong and holds its shape: recovery is more telling than stretch. If it feels like a balloon, move on. Also, look for seams that don't look like ladders when you pull them. :) After that, just make sure you get a pair that actually fits you. You'll look better in a cheap, well-fitting pair, than you will in an expensive ill-fitting pair. Go to an actual shop and try stuff on. Ask the assistants to help you and it'll be a much quicker trip and you should actually end up with a pair that fits you properly. Tell them what you want and if they have it, they'll bring it to you.

I tend to buy jeans that retail for 150-250, but generally only pay 80-100 for them during sale seasons. Anything more than that and you are paying for the name, fit, or because you have that much expendable income.
