I just got mine and while it doesn’t have the die cast heft of Fans Toys, the reports of it feeling cheap are overblown. I mean, don’t THROW it, but my MP Hot Rod feels WAY more flimsy. This is an excellent Optimus Prime for $134 on ShowZ and feels appropriately priced after FT Blaster which was $200 and my gold standard.
Yeah… when I got it in hand, I was surprise that it didn’t feel very light… (not light nor heavy… just right)… I would agree that MP Hot Rod feels more flimsy… And for the price… I think the it’s a great value
To me it's the best G1 masterpiece optimus prime. Most accurate, Best articulation , Both robot and truck are clean no gaps. Weight is not a problem for me.
i bought the white Prime version of this (inner Ultra Magnus Prime) but i use the T.E. Prime as my main MP Prime. i used the battle damage window accessories for my MP 44 to go with the damaged head and his side injury
If I get any more OPs it will be fanstoys. But I'll probably forgo it and get Margh. I already have about 8 versions of prime including 3 mp g1. No more or they will never stop making new "improved" ones.
You’re right about Takara… Even though they use quality plastic, paint, and some diecast… sometimes some of their figure don’t turn out so well… and you’re right about the wobble… but also the gun doesn’t tab in his hand very well, the messing kibble on the back of the alt mode, etc… and the price for all that is not a good value…

It’s gorgeous. He definitely looks the part. But even when you move it or set it down, you can hear that very thin plastic, and it sounds so cheap and fragile. I don’t know why people would want this or praise it so much when it seems to have the absolute minimum of plastic quality; just enough to keep it from falling apart 😬. A 4” NewAge figure has better plastic than this, which is insane.
I agree with you about the quality… which is why I passed on the initial releases… but after looking over it again… and comparing it to Takara Tomy MP-44… it does “LOOK…” better… in both modes… Magic Square consistently does a nice job at cleaning up their figures… but always at a cost of excessive panels and complicate engineering for the tranformation… and this MP scaled version has more issues because the the poor quality plastic they used to save on cost… BUT…. I am very aware of the flaws… and decided get it solely based on “LOOKS…” and to my surprise, the weight of the figure is not as bad as I thought it would be… so that a small positive… Overall, there are TWO FACTORS to consider… One, the aesthetics… which it does pass because it “LOOKS… GREAT…” … … and Two, the form and function… which it failed because of the poor quality plastic… that also creates more issues… … … But for me, I know how to work around the issues… and I plan to keep it in alt mode… so that’s my rationalization for getting it… It’s basically a 50/50 toss up… good/bad… So I think it depends on what your preference is… and what you are willing to compromise for it…

Nope! Not cheap at all. I have this and official MP-44 and this is more sturdy than my MP-44. The plastic is thing but flexible and not brittle at all. The weight hits the sweet spot and I can attest that this holds poses better than MP-44, especially gun poses. MP-44 is always falling and his hand even comes off from time to time. I love my MP-44, but this is way sleeker and more accurate to the toon model hands down. No competition. I mean he's beautiful front and back. Also, engineering and transformation is 10/10. I've transformed mine several times and have no stress marks at all. But I don't manhandle my figures either. I'm super careful all the time. Don't be fooled man.
Obviously the Takara Tomy version is a highly quality plastic, anyone who would expect the same quality shouldn’t be collecting. These are display toys, not 5 year old proof toys. Magic Square has the best mold, proportions etc. EVERYONE knows this. NO one cares about the plastic quality. Geez

the takara prime may have some diecast and better plastic but has way too much wobble which makes it look inferior

Not 100% sure but pretty much the same… but I think they fixed the QC with the smoke stacks… no issue
