So in regards to the changes, when would we know that the changes have been made? I have had my eye on this pack for a while but am curious as to when the updates will be, so I can grab one.
Shoulder pockets have (to my knowledge) been changed already. I'm not sure about the water bottle pockets. I will also say I'm not sure I have the right frame size as suggested by some other viewers. I will say the measurements given for a small frame meet my normal measurements though.
I do love the fact that the design of this pack came from a real world user. Also, one that films. So, there a couple perspectives at play here. Busied quality is there. Now, to go head to head with the Waymark EVLV. these are very close in design. Thanks for the 1st look Frozen. Appreciate ya. Cheers.
Not being able to take out or put back water bottles in side pockets is a deal breaker for me! I love this style of pack but so many pack designers seem to either have crazy shoulder flexibility or don't want to take the time to design good side pockets.
Looks great, bro! Thanks for the review! And I totally agree with you on bottom pockets. So scared I'm going to leave trash/scents and get my pack destroyed by curious rodents. It's MUCH cheaper and easier to replace a food bag than an entire pack. Gloves, hat, maybe.
I’m with you guys and don’t use the bottom pocket for trash or snacks but it is an easy place to stuff gloves or hat or stuff like that on the shoulder seasons.
Thanks for the video! Excellent. I like the removable y strap which is a real innovation. As is the camera clip attachment point. Re bottom pocket. Where do you keep your snacks and wrappers? If they're accessible which they have to be, something will end up smelling. I keep my trash in a ziploc in there and my umbrella. No problems with water. Have a good one
I use a fanny pack and keep wrappers in there until lunch / dinner when I swap them to my Ziploc garbage bag. Has worked very well for years. No issues with rodents.
@@FrozensAdventures You can do the same for each day's snacks with the bottom pocket - put a rolled ziploc in there, eat your snack, pull out the ziploc, put in the empty wrapper, refold/roll the ziploc and put it back in the trash port. At the end of each day you can then transfer that day's empty wrappers into your trip's ziploc garbage bag.
I thought bottom pockets were for clif bars and snacks on the trail? Easy to grab without removing the pack on trail. I am more attracted to the LiteAF packs for the easy-access water bottle pockets that are 'looser' albeit I worry about losing a bottle from them.
I have mine on order, can't wait to get it! I usually use a shoulder strap bottle holder so the side pocket issue probably won't affect me. I really want to see how the shoulder straps compare to zpacks in terms of comfort and which 1" webbing belt I can get to work with the belt loops.
Looks like my order is about to ship as the label was created on Friday 2/17. I have a Waymark 1" webbing belt with the Slick clips to try out as a belt to limit lateral movement.
@@FrozensAdventures Ah nice! Would love to a video with some of your latest tips/tricks/gear/workflow for how you shoot either your studio or outdoor videos.
Those plastic clips with the metal clips on the V-strap look almost identical to the clips you get on the Hyperlite shoulder strap pocket. They sure seem very durable and easy to use.
@@FrozensAdventures The Nashville Cutaway or the Volpi Fastpack 30. The 23 Cutaway version is waiting for me on my porch right now. Can’t wait to try it.
I guess! Darwin is actually adjusting to water bottle pockets in the next version. I can access zpacks osprey and liteaf pockets without issue. Think it's the small frame version of the ranger only.
I have a couple of Zpacks backpacks and find the same issue with reaching back for a water bottle...very difficult to do so (nothing to do with agility...its how they're positioned). Other than that, I'm happy with the Zpacks gear but willing to give the Ranger a look-see. I did purchase the Zpacks water bottle pouch that attaches to the shoulder strap but haven't used it yet.
Awesome! Thanks for the quick response. I’m really interested in making a switch to a frameless pack from a HMG Southwest 3400 but I’m concerned about how comfortably it will sit. I wish I could try one on before buying.
Thank you for the honest review, I’ve been watching this but waiting for a good review before pulling the trigger…. Not sure how I feel about the frameless packs vs. something like the Hyperlyte with the two aluminum stays to keep it from eating directly against your back…. I know it’s not summer and you didn’t have it out on too long of a hike but did you have any ventilation issues with it resting directly on your back?
I've had really good luck with frameless packs and not overheating. Next week I am talking about frameless packs in general. Maybe worth the wait to hear me out.
Great video, the side water bottle pockets looked hard to use. Is that pack the right torso size for you? Are the more then one size on the Ranger? Thanks, Trail Flea
Really trying to decide between the Ranger and the HMG Unbound, seem to be very similar in pack ability and features. Really appreciate your review, and feedback on the Ranger…keep the content coming.
I just got the Unbound and like it fine, however it is a bigger pack than im used to. I usually hike with the Waymark Evolve. The Ranger seems more that pack size and fit. Im still considering buying the Ranger for when my pack load is light. When i emailed Evolve supply co about availability, they responded they should be sending out more packs end of March or First of April.
@@brianwhidden Thanks I appreciate the feedback on your thoughts with the Unbound by HMG, I don’t have my gear dialed in yet and can’t really decide on the size pack I need. Again thanks 🤙🏽
I think the g hook makes it different. I know waymark came out with a new pack with mostly the same features as this one (from what I can tell) very recently.
Hey Kevin! We are not affiliated with that company in any way. We produce our own packs here in the US. Our products are designed and developed in our own shop based out of Florida and manufactured in Colorado. Thanks!
What is your torso length? I am the same height as you, but I have a longer torso length than the pack. I am curious if it would fit me the way it fits you?
I tend to avoid weight and price as to not turn people off so they look at the features first. You can find more info on their website. evolvedsupplyco.com/
According to the Ranger's specs online and in contrast to the EVLV, the Ranger is tapered so the top of the pack is "deeper" than the bottom and it should also have a longer extension collar than the 38L EVLV. Not to mention the material differences, bottom pocket, and camera clip design aspects. Really feels like the next iteration/evolution of the EVLV design language.
Darwin has accepted my feedback and is making changes. He says there will be adjustments to the water bottle pockets and shoulder pockets.

Gregory Paragon has the easiest pockets to get bottles out of hands down.
I have to agree. I have one and don't ever have to struggle to get to the bottles.
Can you see if a BV450 fits down in it? I despise a top carry.
Going to assume it does but reach out to the manufacturer as I don't have a bear cannister myself.
BV450 fits just fine! Also, my BV475 fis inside with my entire kit with a bit more room to spare.. maybe a roll or two.

They are similar to Zpacks shoulder straps. Not quite as comfortable as LiteAF in my opinion but LiteAF's are overkill.
