The reason why North Korean hackers are so amazing is because you’ve got nothing to hit. Most of the country doesn’t even have power. You can’t really counter cyber attacks somebody who has no food and power. You can take out the computer, but you can’t you can’t sanitize anything else.
I watched a documentary many years ago where they uncovered North Korean forced laborers in German shipyards. They filmed how they had people outside the shipyard waiting to pick them up after work and immediately transport them to a building which they never left other than for work. It also appeared like they were not allowed to speak to each other, possibly because they're pretending to be from another country. The reason they don't try to flee is because they only use people with families in North Korea. That makes it easy to control them because they know what will happen to their family otherwise. I had already known about this happening in Russia, but I didn't expect the same thing going on inside the EU. Turns out it's very much a thing in several EU countries.
I was just going down a NK Hacker rabbit hole yesterday. Absolutely wild shit. State-sponsored hackers are a MASSIVE threat to our future safety. And honestly, with how attached to our devices and how reliant we are on technology that can be affected by hacks, this is how the most damage will be done in the future.
Well maybe even here in the west we should do something like that, i guess that state sponsored things are more efficient than private contractors making 10x return on state subsidies for the same things. Maybe some communism here in the west wouldnt be so bad
North Korean IT workers pay US citizens to apply for and take interviews for full-remote IT jobs in their stead. They then work in these positions to then split the paycheck, part of which keeps the US proxy quiet and the other part funds their WMD program, while also retaining a backdoor to the usually high-tech companies they work for.
