    The incredible strength and beauty of this marvel of engineering and human creation, which I discovered in 1967, is astounding - a true symbol of America's might, admires everyone, wherever he is. Azer. M Baku, Azerbaijan

    Damn dude, this is BY FAR the BEST EVER follow-a-train footage!! So bright, sharp and steady! Did you use an electronic stabilizer or gimbal? I litteraly enjoyed every second of this hour long video!

      Nope, handheld cellphone footage. Check out the video from Greeley to Nunn; I think that shot is better than this one.

    Oh wow!! That is magnificent. Thanks so much for posting this. Never seen anything remotely like it.
    Need to check the map of America to see where it is. Really flat land. I am in Australia, another place with thousands of miles of flat land. Bravo!! Now to watch Day 2.

    Being a steam man
    I like steaming sound, & Great whistling sound of our Grand old grand father ( GOD FATHER )
    THE ORIGINAL DURABLE RAILWAYS EVERGREEN SUPER STAR (HERO ) BIG BOY 4014
    My self joined in INDIAN RAILWAYS DURING EARLY 80'S
    At AJMEER LOCO WORKS AS A
    APP-CHARGEMAN -B
    Later I saved in so many major steam loco sheds like, MAHESANA,SABARMATHI, RAJKOT ,SHEDS
    Finally I am working in DIESEL/ELECTRIC LOCO SHED K.R PURAM BANGALORE, AS A SENIOR SECTION ENGINEER
    MY only Ambitions is that BIG BOY 4014 TO ROLL ON INDIAN TRACKS, I HOPE THIS MAY HAPPEN VERY SOON BY THE GRACE OF ALMIGHTY GOD IN THE COMING FUTURE, SO THAT UP COMING GENERATIONS WILL ALSO SEE THE BEAUTIFUL SCNERIO GLIM'S OF OUR GREAT GRAND FATHER BIG BOY 4014 ,WHO IS KNOWN TO BE DURABLE HERO (EVER GREEN SUPER STAR) OF OUR RAILWAYS

    Maybe UP 4014 will be going to the Pacific Northwest soon. Touring in Utah, Nevada, Northern California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho! In addition to that, UP 4014 will doublehead with SP 4449, just like with UP 844 in 2007! What do you think?

      The community was expecting a northwest tour this year, but probably good that they didn't with all the fires out that way. Perhaps next spring.

    Barely a puff of smoke. That thing is just loafing. The drain cocks are open on the cylinders just to make a sound but there is no real pressure being put into the cylinders. For heavens sake, at least give it steam when you are taking off. That is the most exciting time when you hear an engine start. You are just barely cracking the throttle. Can tell this by the position of the Reverser. It isn't just SEEING the engine - it is HEARING IT WORK!!!

    History: Would the BIG Boys ever pulled the Overland Express from Chi. to S.F. in the mid 50's,,,,,,

    • @smeagolplaysgames4517
      @smeagolplaysgames4517 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they were only every used on freight service as far West as Ogden and as far East as North Platte during their regular service. The only time I've ever heard of a 4000 pulling passenger cars prior to 4014's restoration would be a few troop trains during WWII, and even then I don't have a source to back that up, so take that with a massive grain of salt. They were relatively fast for freight locos, but did not have the speed for passenger trains. Challengers, on the other hand, were a lot better suited for passenger trains and were regularly seen pulling them especially up mountain grades like Cajon Pass and Sherman Hill before all the passenger trains were dieselized.

    • @521wurlitzer
      @521wurlitzer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      More than likely not. Big Boys were not used for passenger train service. Possibly one of the Challenger type 4-6-6-4s though. Not from Chicago though. Probably a diesel locomotive as far west as Omaha. In the 1950s, probably diesel the whole distance. Possibly a Steam helper west of Cheyenne to Laramie.
