    If the OR 15 had a clean channel it would be the perfect head.
    It has absolutely amazing tone. Yes I owned one and I am upgrading to a TH30 for the clean channel which sets it apart.

      ***** Thanks! The OR15 at 100% gain is a bit overwhelming for most styles of music (picture a wall of in your face sound with few dynamics). But for some music styles this works perfectly. I tend to use amp gain on the conservative side when I play so I wouldn't be very good in controlling the massive amount of gain. I just hit the strings harder/tighter to get the level of distortion I need.

    This is exactly how people should do comparison and demo videos. Also, I know the OR15 is supposed to sound more vintage, but I'm using it in a fairly modern pop punk band and it just kicks ass. Great video!

      i would tend to agree with that statement, played both and found the OR15 to be more Voxy in the high end while the TH30 is more about having facemelting gain married to a typical EL84 clean sound. TH30 mid gain has more low mids i think, sounds more Sabbathy to my ears than the OR15 does

    Great vid, need more stuff like this on TH-cam.
    You can definitely hear there's more balls behind the TH30, though the tones really are similar. The OR15 is fantastic for the price, but for the extra $350 you get twice the wattage (while still having the ability to step it down), and the extra channel (which adds a huge amount of versatility to the amp.), and still having the effects loop.

    OR15 one of the best little amps to come out that can cover alot of early rock from the 70s to 80s and so forth. Best amp purchase I ever made since my early 70s marshalls and even has the tube fx loop They both sounded good in this vid but I'm partial to the OR series. I have a Brent Hinds Terror also which has the natural channel for really clean tones .

    To add, I play in a 2 gtr rock band in a 70's vein. I run a gibson les paul into a stock or15 and an orange ppc112 w/a celestion greenback. My counterpart runs an Ibanez SZ into a marshall dsl15 and a carvin 2x12 ob cab stock. Both at or below 50% master volume against a hard hitting drummer and bassist. It holds up extremely well. Plus, no issues at gigs with sound guys. We don't have to turn down!

    You are a naturally great demo man! Your good taste in music and great playing is something almost no other reviewer of guitar stuff combines as well as you. (In my opinion). I was going to get a tiny terror to be my first jump into Orange, but I think that OR 15 looks like it's pony does more tricks. Which do you favor? I don't need It to do everything, I have a deluxe reverb for cleans, and a Mesa lonestar for kind of all around, but Orange amps have a "special" sound that I want to play with. Thanx

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rigbybigdog Hi, you can use the OR15 for blues and it works very well. The Blues Jr, or any of the Fender Hot Rod series, all work well for blues and have the added benefit of reverb and the ability to have a clean tone and run an overdrive pedal of your choice up front. There is no reverb on the OR15 and it does not have a true clean channel. If I were a musician who mainly played blues at home and only had the choice of the OR15 or a Blues Junior, I'd go for the Blues Junior.

    Here because I was considering "upgrading" to the TH30.... I think the TH30's sound is more complex and compressed out the gate which makes it sit better in a mix, while the OR15 sounds more raw and natural. I just want both now.

    Great comparison but listening closely with good headphones, I don't think the mix is the same on both amps in your DAW. OR15 has more centered sound and the TH30 is just slightly quiter in the left side. This would alter my thoughts about the amps if I did not know this. Thanks for your work though I love your vids.

    Thank you, I really appreciate that, so on that point, I do own a OR15, ( have a reverb pedal) but you are just a lot better and more expierienced player, so value your advice. would you say it would be a waste of money buying a Blues Junior also, or would there be value to having both if you could afford it😉?

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rigbybigdog The OR15 and Blues Junior are different amps. If you want that Fender tone, which sounds amazing with a single coil Strat or Tele, then the Blues Junior or Hot Rod Deluxe will give that to you. The OR15 is, in my opinion, more an amp for humbucker pickups and playing rock or metal. For jazz, funk, blues, classic rock with a Strat or Tele, the Blues Junior would be better. It all depends on what guitars you have and what styles of music you wish to play. The good thing is that there are plenty of used Blues Juniors or Hot Rod Deluxe amps for very low prices. Many even have the upgraded speakers (Fender amps with upgraded speakers usually come in a tolex colour other than black). Best advice is to try one out and see if it meets your needs. I should also mention that Fender Blues and Hot Rod amps do not have very good usable gain/overdrive. They are much better being run clean with an Overdrive pedal out front.

Listening to Schools Out from around 0:15 to 0:25 the OR15 has a but more bite but nothing that anyone's gonna pick out in a mix. The differences available in mic placement, room, playing style etc. are far greater than the difference between these amps.

      LilOlFunnyBoy Thanks for watching & commenting. When playing the amps, the differences to my ears are that the OR15 is less tight and more in your face and the TH30 is tight, compressed but a bit less in your face in the mids. Both still sound great though, and do very well in a live setting.

    Man I really enjoy and appreciate your approach on these comparisons, first off! Best demos for Orange I've seen tbh. I need to make a decision quickly so here's my question. I use Line 6 Delay, Boss PS-6/OD-3/DS-2, and Morley wah pedals for my sound which is very close to Tim Mahoney/311, and John Frusciante/RHCP. I'm really wanting Orange to upgrade from my Line 6 Spider 2/12 and a nice Fender 2/12 I'm borrowing. I go from clean, to punchy and sharp distortion , to spacey reverb a lot. Can I get a good reverb from Orange, or would I need another pedal. And any advice for a first time buyer of Orange tube amp would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

    • @GreyGod798
      @GreyGod798 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      throw vs me You'll require a 2 channel Orange amp for what you wish to achieve. Also Orange amps are not big in the reverb department unless you go for a model that includes it... but that adds $$$ to the price. Best bang for the buck for what you wish to achieve is the TH30 or the Duel Terror. Unfortunately these amps do not have reverb but the do have punchy sparkling cleans and a nice tube distortion channel.

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      throw vs me Thanks for the comments! If you go for an Orange amp, you'll probably have no need for your distortion/overdrive pedals when using the tube distortion. The reason for this is that the Orange amp are very responsive and would turn your overdrive or distortion tone into just more tube distortion & may sound fizzy. On the clean channel of an Orange amp you could certainly use your distortion/overdrive pedals and achieve the sound you like. The Delay and Wah pedals will work fine on dirty or clean channels. As another poster has already noted, the TH30 and Dual Terror are low cost Orange amps that will meet your needs. If you want reverb & have a few extra dollars, then you're into the two channel Dual Dark which is a nice 50 watt head (massively loud) or the Classic Rockerverb (another 50 watt killer).

      +keaulana1 They do sound somewhat similar. To me the TH30 is a more fizzy tone, whereas the OR50 is your classic rock (mids) tone.

      +jAMMAN798 you are right. TH30 is more compressed, and OR50 can take you to the Plexi Territory. But both sound like Orange, the gain out of them is more fuzzy. Try different models and you will hear what I meant.

    Awesome vid as always! Very similar sounding amps (at least on the Tube). TH30 takes the cake but just by a small margin. So it is mostly about how much headroom you need and how loud you are willing to go. And dat is some sweet Reverend you've got there. I almost bought one myself. Are you planning on doing a demo of it?

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      AnalRectum Hey brother. Yep, they certainly do have a similar tone. To my ears the OR15 has a more classic, untamed overall sound (it is a bit more full sounding). The TH30 is slightly more compressed/tight sounding with a touch of the fizzy Orange tone. I do love the Reverend guitar, very easy to play (nice neck), well put together with outstanding hardware (the pickups are out of this world)! Perhaps I'll do a demo one day.

      jAMMAN798 I agree the OR15 sounds a bit more classic to me and is my favorite of the two amps. Definitely going to get one before the end of the year! I actually enjoyed the clean sound on the OR15 a little better, sounded more full and well rounded. As always...thanks for posting!

    I was offered BOTH of these amps for a Soldano Hot Rod 50 I have. I also have a Marshall DSL 100 which will cover the 100/50w range. Your thoughts?

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jp Rosentreter Depends what the purpose of your guitar amps are. If you plan on playing small venues or studio recording then the smaller wattage amps are great for tone and portability. If you prefer the tone of the Marshall or Soldano then stay with those.... or work out a deal somehow where you have one of each (always nice to have an Orange amp in your back pocket as the tone fits so many styles of music).

  • @WDeranged
    @WDeranged 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Slightly off topic but I bought an OR15 after watching your Tubemeister 18 comparison, it's a lovely amp and the comparison was very accurate.
    I'm having a problem and I thought you'd be the best person to ask, does your OR15 have a small amount of fuzz and buzz even with all the knobs rolled right down? Mine does, it's not very loud but it's always there and only gets drowned out by "proper" amp noise at higher gain settings.

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      WDeranged Mine is very quiet, unless I have the gain maxed out to the right & the volume turned way up. There should be no fuzz/buzz otherwise. Does your amp make this buzz/fuzz sound when no jack is plugged into the front? If so, then it could be a tube issue or power outlet issue.

    • @WDeranged
      @WDeranged 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      jAMMAN798 Yeah even with no jack connected, it did get worse when connecting a cable but Orange eventually (I sent it back twice) replaced the FX loop tube which at least stopped it getting worse, the general noise is still there though.
      I've tested it at work and the music shop with the same result, they don't have another OR15 for me to compare it with but a Tiny Terror and my TM18 are comparatively silent, just a hint of 50hz hum.
      I'm pretty sure I don't have superman's hearing but all my previous tube amps had a tiny bit of 50hz hum that you can hear even with nothing connected and everything rolled down, this OR15 has higher frequency fuzz that I can pick up from the other side of my (small) living room.

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      WDeranged You most certainly have a defective unit. I tried mine with no jack plugged into the front and volume & gain on max, and there is zero sound coming out (there must be a kill switch built into the front jack). Then I plugged in the front jack, cranked everything to max which will cause a guitar to feedback, but turned guitar volume to zero. Only sound coming out of amp is white noise, and at an acceptable level. I'm amazed the techs who looked at your amp couldn't figure out the problem since it failed the above checks I performed.

    • @WDeranged
      @WDeranged 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      jAMMAN798 Thanks for checking, the noise really is not loud but sitting a couple of meters away from my 1x12 I can hear it. I've asked for a refund as I'm a bit burnt out for now but I'll definitely try another OR15 in a few weeks.

  • @MoveAlongRomeo
    @MoveAlongRomeo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    How pedal friendly is the TH30? Does the clean channel take drive pedals relatively well (ie to go from clean to crunch on clean and then higher-gain/lead on dirty channel)? And clearly the OR15 cleans up well with volume control, but how well does keeping the gain just at the breakup point then adding pedals work?

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** If you run distortion, overdrive or fuzz pedals through the clean channel, then the amp is perfect for such pedals. If you run them through the Dirty Channel, then those pedals only act as a boost... you are just boosting the tube distortion. Also the amp has an effects loop designed for modulation pedals, such as Delay, Chorus, Phaser, Flanger, Reverb, etc. and it works really well.

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jAMMAN798 My response above was for the TH30 amp. For the OR15, there is no clean channel, so drive pedals only work as a boost for the existing tube distortion. As you noted, to obtain more clean tone you must also work the volume control on your guitar (especially if using humbuckers). As soon as you reduce a guitars volume, you also reduce the gain effect. So if you ran a drive pedal after your guitar, then to the amp and reduced your guitar volume, you'd also reduce the effect of the drive pedal... which would defeat the purpose of what you're trying to achieve.

  • @Demolition6312
    @Demolition6312 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not much of a difference but I thought I read both gain circuits were based on the Rockerverb. May be wrong. I'm leaning torwards the TH30 because of dual channels. I want a clean and crunch tone plus a booster crunch so two channels and pedals help. Being one chance isn't a bad thing for the OR15 (or Tiny Terror) if your a gain guy and never turn it off or use an EQ to boost volume like a second channel, but that's what keeps me away. Thanks for the comparison man really sounded great.
    Also found the TH to have more bass response at higher Gain. Other than that both sounded similar

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +devinjaybee Thanks! Both amps are great for practice or live. If you use distortion, overdrive or fuzz pedals, the TH30 is better due to the clean channel. I found the OR15 to be a bit more punchy and less fizzy than the TH30. Because of the punch the OR15 sounded louder which was interesting. But for versatility for different types of playing, the TH30 has all areas covered.

    What valves are you using in the TH30 and what speaker/cabinet? I ask because I use a TH30 through an Orange 1X12 loaded with a Vintage 30 and it sounds nothing like as good as that on those settings.

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew White Everything is stock in both amps. Speaker is your basic Celestion Vintage 30. If you are using Humbuckers then you sound should be close to the 1st and 3rd tune played. If not, and you have the same speaker, then the problem could be your guitar pickups. The Humbuckers in the video are 57 Classics in the Gibson Les Paul and Railhammer pickups in the Reverend Kingbolt.

    • @AndrewWhite-lx6df
      @AndrewWhite-lx6df 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jAMMAN798 Just played around with it some more. Having the volume up at a minimum of 30% makes a big difference. I also think the V30 might not be fully broken in yet as it seems awfully shrill so I've now also hooked up a second cabinet loaded with a 15" Eminence Kappa and that gives it a much fuller sound. The tone is still a little dry for my taste but some new preamp valves should solve that.
