Yes...she will kill people by suffocating them with mochi... Mainly around New Year celebrations
she defends tofu boy from the other yokais who bullied him…by trapping them in a big blob of mochi
I'd dig this romance.
I'm sure she has some soft, pleasingly round, pale white mochi to tempt us with.
Given that he's so easily bullied, part of me would want to give the little man a hug and liberate him.
But then again, given that he is so easily bullied and given that he's good at sneaking up on people, another part of me would want to make him work for me as a process server.
I'd pay him adequately...mostly in Tofu.

This little guy is my favorite yokai . Its not evil , he is just a prankster . I find it kinda sad that other yokai bully the little guy because is weak and that makes me to love Tofukozo even more

My favorite high Protein tofu dish:
Soak diced tofu in your favorite soup base over night. (I use chicken broth or bullion cube)
Dice celery, onion, garlic and chicken.
Fry everything adding celery seeds.
And add a couple eggs to the frying mixture.
Season with soy sauce.
Sometimes I like to add bean sprouts and water chestnuts too.
Serve over rice or noodles.
Didn't know we were getting a good recipe today :p

Hrm, I'll have to try that one. I don't get a lot of tofu practice cause a lot of my friends have soy allergies, and I rarely get fancy just for myself, but I've been wanting to make some anyway. :)

Believe it or not, the stereotypical "clown"-look, i.e. poofy read hair, red nose, white face, red lips in exaggerated grin, is based on depictions of the devil in medieval mystery plays! So all evil clowns like Pennywise from It and so on are basically a "back to the roots" kinda thing...

... I reckon to them, it is considered a delicacy. Stinky tofu covered in hairy mold is an actual food culture in many asian culinary traditions, afterall. >):^]

I think yokai are kind of like traditional fairies/mermaids in the sense that they dont really care if they kill or hurt people in the way of their pranks. They dont care about people, and if their prank kills someone they just laugh because their victim fell for it. The OGs of "iTs JuSt a PrAnK bRo"

Smoked Tofu marinated in Teriyaki sauce and spiced with Japanese curry and served with noodles in Dashi tastes great!
PS: I forgot the name of the curry. It's Japanese pepper, chilli, orange peals, seasam, algae.
People who say tofu doesn't taste good are just admitting that they can't cook. Simple as that.

@@Lucky-Nick123 OK, I'm back home and here's the recipe (2-3 persons):
1) cut 800g smoked tofu into small bits and mix it with 8 TBSP Teriyaki sauce
2) cut a large clove of garlic and ca. 1.5 inch of ginger into thin stripes
3) clean and cut two heads of Pak Choi.
4) add 2 TBSP of oil into the frying pan and briefly fry the tofu.
5) remove the tofu and add another 1 TBSP of oil and briefly fry the greens
6) add 1 tsp of crude/brown sugar and mix it in while it's still hot.
7) add everything together and mix in 150mL (1.5 cups) of vegetable broth (bought a powder and dissolved it in warm water)
8) add one tsp of Nanami Togarashi
9) dissolve Dashi powder and simmer the Somen noodles (2 pack); don't boil or it will negatively affect the taste
10) remove the noodles and add some of the remaining dashi and pour it into the vegetable broth.
11) adjust the flavor with more pepper, dashi, teriyaki, or paprika. Careful, there's a big difference between sauce, noodles, and greens regarding the intensity of the taste.
12) plate the noodles and greens
I really like the idea of the yokai being relatives to one and other makes this ghostly folklore stand out
That's it, I'm making a tofu business and these little guys are going to help me do it. And no one, not even child labor laws, can stop me.

Can anything in Japan become a yokai? This just seems like some kid offered tofu to someone but it ended up being old and the guy got food poisoning. When are we getting toe stomper, the yokai that walks around to stop on your toes when you are in public places. Maybe wont mover will show up, the yokai that takes two seats on the bus and won't move even if you ask.

I think the best way to ensure that the tofu you're getting won't kill you with mold is to bow, thank the tofu boy, then ask for a pair of chopsticks, basically be as polite as you can, so that he'll have no real reason to harm you. He might still prank you with moldy tofu, but that's just a harmless prank, and fermented tofu can be quite appetizing. If he was bullied by another yokai to kill you, he might feel bad for killing someone so polite, so he might warn you or ask you to escort him to a monk to protect him.

I put these in my Japanese inspired D&D campaign.
So in my setting, I have a continent that I created when I was 18 that Ive worked on the last decade to make into a playground for sandbox D&D, and 2 campaigns ago, I ran a campaign I called, "The Razing of Espire" which was an invasion of Aztec inspired warriors in service to a theocratic Empire called the "Empire of the Sun" in the common tongue. They invaded enmasse, and they had 3 different fleets that broke away after the trip to attack 3 places on the coast in a giant slave raid.
Didn't play for a few years but then created a new campaign called the "Raising of Espire" and in that gap, I came to the conclusion that the "Civilized" warrior culture of Japan would make a good foil to the barbaric manners of Aztec society. A culture of people forced to work together to make a unified warrior culture to face off against the Darwinistic Empire of the Sun. It wasn't meant to be that much in depth, but 2 players wanted to have that complete "Newby" experience, so they chose to be foreigners to the old continent, which lead to me fleshing out the new continent more.
I'm not going to bore you with setting information, but the party voted to play on this continent this campaign, and thus have lead to me doing a lot more research on Yokai as they are my replacement for ghosts and spiritual undead.
Tofu boy made the cut as a spirit of a young boy whom starved and thus never wants others to starve, so he gives out blocks of Tofu. The party have identified that they give out power ups.... sometimes.... but the roll was mid so they didn't get the whole picture.
SO far they were given one with a cherry in it for extra HP, they ate the one with a cockroach on it and received wallclimb, and they have one with a maple leaf on it that offers the effect I call, "Sticky fingers" which is slight of hand. None of them have been poisoned..... yet.

Perhaps the reason why Tofu Boy's tofu sometimes turns out to be spoiled is because a tanuki yokai bullied and forced him into selling some leftover trash tofu enchanted with transformation magic (hence the leaf) to fool customers?
... Bet it was Tom Nook who coerced the poor lad into a life of crime with housing foreclosure. >)X^D

Why is the Tofu Boy deemed not evil if the tofu you might eat could grow mold and kill you? Also , this is my first time learning of Tofu Boy despite used to having known a lot about youkai / read a lot about them. They really do have a youkai for every thing / every concept one could think of , don't they? 😺
I guess it all depends.
On one hand, he may kill you.
On the other hand, he might just give you a healthy albeit bland snack.
So I guess that he would be evil to some and not to others.
Another factor is that he's depicted as doing evil because he's coerced into it by stronger, more intimidating creatures; giving people lethal food poisoning isn't necessarily his desire and he does this out of fear.
So I guess that the viciousness is on an individual level, not across the board, and sometimes it's viciousness with a "yes, but" attached to the evil action.
I believe that any particular society's mythology springs from its aspirations and fears and I find myself wondering if the Tofu Boy is a warning; he came into popularity when smallpox was killing people, he wore clothes associated with warding off the disease and offered up what was on paper a healthy snack but in reality was just poison.
Maybe the whole point of Tofu Boy was "don't believe every cure-all, some people are just out to make money and if you wind up dying they won't care."
Kind of like nowadays when prominent people have claimed everything from Hydroxychloroquine to Ivermectin as miracle drugs for a disease that doesn't seem controllable.
I guess times change and human nature stays the same.
i think the tofu works different , depents of what kind of character is the person who try's Tofu boy's tofu . For example , if you are a lonely person but good the Tofukozo will treat you well but if you are bad and have big reputation then you will get a prank
