    The reason the fella is holding on to racquet with his left hand, on the preparation phase, is because we have YT coaches teaching this type of stuff. Second his footwork is off, third his racquet face isn’t dropping underneath the ball, and he is hitting flat like Connors, which isn’t working because he is holding his racquet with an Eastern grip, and you are doing a excellent job fixing that problem. You are a great teacher my friend.

    Good video. As always. Would love one for the backhand as well.
    Usually I know what to do but always forget when I'm playing a match. Unit turn quickly for example. I do it for a couple of games and then my mind is gone.

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Normally in a match, you don't want to think about technique, It should already be a habit before you play the match. That's where training comes in.
      If you think about technique in the match you won't be focused on strategy and figuring out how to defeat your opponent.

    Fantastic channel and very sound technical advice. I have been playing tennis for over 14 years now, on and off and I'm finding so many gems of advice on the channel.
    Loving the connection to the pros, the fundamental physics and how we can break down the strokes to their moving parts, it makes so much more sense when we look at them in the way that you suggest.
    Would be lovely to take a lesson once I'm in the UK.
    All the best to your channel, and hopefully many more people around the world can learn from sound advice, maybe providing it in different languages in the future, in collaboration with like minded coaches across the globe 😉

Luckily I found out this video and it helped me to improve my forehand skill dramatically. This concept of video was even not needed a lot of drills or efforts. @@TopTennisTrainingOfficial thx for the video but taking the racket back that early and waiting at the back is old school tennis...The swing is more efficient when it has a continuous motion at the back....therefore holding longer with left hand is a better way....you lose power and rhythm when the racket stops at the back...as u see in your same videos with the pros,the racket doesn't stop in the power position as u would like to call it.....With proper timing and footwork u still can meet the ball early infront holding longer eith the non hitting hand....Berdych is probably the only famous player that does what you are teaching.

    Hi Simon , fantastic video , I am guilty of holding off the racquet with my non hitting hand too much and didn't notice it until now (basically overturning which make my shoulders tense ,thus unable to have a loose arm/wrist ) , however , after reviewing old footage of myself playing , I noticed that I didn't have that flaw , but suddenly began to do it (overturning), it coincided with a very stressful period of my life when I felt my body tense up completely ( not only while playing Tennis) , it would be great if you made a video about Stress / bad sleep etc... and it's impact on your tennis , Thanks :)

    Thanks for this forehand drill... I was doing this all wrong and was not consistent, plus the way I played actually hurt the left side of my hip because I wasn’t fully rotating, I plant my feet in the same position while rotating, I blamed the pain on my weight. This is so helpful...thanks for sharing this knowledge.

    Hi Simon, thank you for this great Video.
    09:20 " The upper body goes first" . Pleas correct me if i´m wrong, but isn´t it like that: movement from the feet to the tip of the racket?
    I think you have to release your hips BEFORE your upper body, to keep the kinetic chain maintained? Please feel free to correct me :)

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Benjamin
      Normally yes, that is the sequence, the hips open up along with the shoulders uncoiling and the racket follows. However, with this chap, he was opening up too early with his shoulders and hips and his racket would drag behind and he'd contact the ball late so I wanted him to feel the shoulders uncoiling first along with the racket so he could separate the upper body from the lower.
      But in general, you're 100% correct.
      Thanks for watching.

    So when you have to run to the ball, is it best to have your racquet in the three o clock position before planting to swing or should you plant, turn, and swing?

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You want to be ready to hit the shot as early as possible, on the run that means preparing the racket on the way to the ball.
      You simply wouldn't have to time to run, turn and then hit.
      The turn actually makes it easier for you to run because your body is then side on so you can use normal running steps.

      Kyrgios forehand is more complex than Federer FH. Federer FH more efficient. The loop is bigger the higher the elbow and more elbow bend. Timing is more critical. Which is why Federer has changed his FH over the years. Kafelnikov and Kyrgios have similarities. I’d look to Fed if you have Eastern or close to Eastern grip(composite). And then I’d look to Djokovic if you have semi western.

I struggle with the same issue and in addition I often hit the ball too late in the contact zone. I am working with a teaching pro to fix this. I would love to have the opportunity to have a private lesson with you guys when you are in the states. The forehand is the area of my game that needs the most help and I would really like to see more video instruction by you on this and similar common problem areas that are central to 4.0 - 4.5 players. Your forehead form seems to base more on open stand while your student more of shoulder turn and angular, which do you recommend?

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You need to be able to hit with all stances, each ball requires a different stance and set up.
      Open is great for wider balls, neutral stance for midcourt balls you want to attack.

I have many players who just don't toss the ball high enough on the service and "short arm" the ball (they don't hit it at the apex).
