I was literally like: "Pfft, as if you could make this sound better than it already is" Famous last words, as they say. Sounds cleaner, sharper and it hits better, indeed.
I find it hilarious that this theme is super heroic and very fitting for a shonen protagonist when most of Yami's actions in Season 0 revolve around him torturing people
While it is a bit more complicated in the manga, the Season 0 incarnation is very much the definition of antihero. He is heroic and takes things seriously when he is in a convo or when he is close to a loss. But when he is winning, he clearly likes to troll and punish his opponents.

You get sadistic when you as a spirit stay in the living world too long...it's no longer the realm you are supposed to be in so it distorts you and makes you a bit crazy.

I honestly love Yami Yugi's character development: he starts out harshly punishing anyone who does Yugi or his friends harm, only ever dealing out Shadow Games and then disappearing, but as the first arc continues on, he starts to genuinely like his friends and they leave an impression on him. He doesn't fully start interacting with Yugi until after Duelist Kingdom, but after they properly fight together in the shadow game against Pegasus, you can tell that Yugi has a profound effect on him. If it wasn't for Yugi and his friends, Yami Yugi probably wouldn't have even discovered that he's the spirit of the nameless Pharaoh. He needed his friends to fulfill his purpose for being in the Millennium Puzzle.
I think it's what culminates in the last arc, where without Yugi and his friends he would fail the fight against Zorc, because he never discovered his name on his own.

It is the same spirit, he just gets more mild because he his sharing his body with yogi and takes some of his characteristics, so this is atem before he took on yugi’s traits
I love Yugioh. It's always sad to see people who don't like it because they only know the 4kidz dub or couldn't get past the first few episodes of Duel Monsters. The manga is amazing, so I'll just be recommending that to people and hope they like it
He punishes bad guys in a rather evil way. All cheaters of the Game of Darkness suffer eternal punishment worse than death. Losers of the Game of Darkness simply receive death (see the manga arc with the hockey match), and to date, I don't recall what happens if the opponent wins a Game of Darkness against Dark Yuugi.

Reasons I like Yugi: Yugi Muto: Cute kid. Very loyal to his friends, and actively tries to help them. Adorable voice, though he gets beat up a lot. He's also quite funny and sells the dramatic moments well. Yami Yugi: Sensual yet calm voice to match his creepiness. Mostly punishes people with illusions unlike his manga counterpart. Gives people the illusion that they're doing well before absolutely crushing them. Very clever, especially in that golf episode. Isn't afraid to scar some dude for life in the name of justice. And most of all, actually sounds like a child AND creepy at the same time.
Hopefully it would follow the manga closely as the Toei anime following the manga definitely makes the beginning of this show much more interesting than the Duel Monsters counterpart.
Honestly neither the Toei or Nihon Ad anime series followed the Manga closely. Both take minor characters from the manga (Miho and Ryuji respectively) and have them as main characters, as well as omitting several story arcs in favor of new anime storylines. What makes Yu-Gi-Oh! Series 1 so great isn't so much that it's close to the Manga (to be perfectly honest it has way more new content than Manga content) but rather than it has a heart and spirit that the Second Yu-Gi-Oh! Series and even the original Manga in comparison lack.

I first found out about "Season 0" or Yu-Gi-Oh 1998 around this time in 2006 when I was in early high school. Loved it. I was most amazed by the second episode at the burger place.

I always imagine a remake of the Duel Monsters anime where this plays when Yugi, instead of Atem, has awesome moments, like when he summons Gandora(Yugi's true ace monster) to defeat Bakura. It would be amazing to see a duel monsters remake in The Dark Side of Dimensions' graphical quality.
If you see Season zero Yami and duel monsters Yami they look very different. The duel monters characters are more angular and they have more shading. The zero characters aren't as angled and less shading.
If you're talking about artstyle, then it's obviously different. Not so much of course, they have to keep style with manga, but animators of Season 0 were Toei Animation, and animators of Duel Monsters were Studio Gallop. Gallop in my opinion did the character styles way better, but Toei sticked more to the original. Just like w Dragon Ball tho :v

Yugi looks 12 at best, Anzu 14, Jonouchi 14, and so forth...Like what the actual hell, if they supposed to be high schoolers then they should maybe look like it. honestly this feels vaguely like something out of Sonic Adventure or Sonic X doesn't help that both SA1 and YuGiOh! Season 0 came out the same year. (and that Yugi and Dark Yugi in DM's english dub were voiced by the same guy who later voiced Knuckles, the GUN commander and Mephiles in some of the 2000's sonic games, hell Yami in DM and Mephiles have pretty much have the same voice.)

honestly this feels vaguely like something out of Sonic Adventure or Sonic X
doesn't help that both SA1 and YuGiOh! Season 0 came out the same year.
(and that Yugi and Dark Yugi in DM's english dub were voiced by the same guy who later voiced Knuckles, the GUN commander and Mephiles in some of the 2000's sonic games, hell Yami in DM and Mephiles have pretty much have the same voice.)
