Atem's so bad ass in this series, they should've made all of the seasons like this. I love bad ass Atem! It's weird knowing that Atem is a yami yet he acts kind when the other yami's want to kill everyone...
As you read the manga, you find out why he's like that. Yugi along with his friends have a profound effect on Atem. I mean, he's still a darker, more harsh personality than Yugi (he puts a few people through some pretty harsh Penalty Games during Duelist Kingdom), and as Yugi and Atem get to know each other, he becomes kinder.
Ushio had the great misfortune of being the very first to have an encounter with Yami Yugi after 3000 years of imprisonment in darkness. You'd almost feel bad for the guy...just a bit.

The manga version was more Interesting basically Yami braught twice as much money and they played a game, naturally. The game was you place the stack of money in your hand and useing a knife pickup as much money as you can but the catch was you only got one stab and if you hit your hand you'd loose. Then his greed started to co some him and he tried to murder Yugi way more badass
I guess that in order to appeal to the younger crowd and to sell cards, especially the Japanese crowd, they had to tone down Yami's dark side down a lot.

A few years ago I believe Konami took back the rights from 4kids (something like that I don’t remember exactly) plus 4kids have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy so I don’t think we’ll be seeing much of them anymore.
Sometimes I wish they would animate season 0 again but like fully cus there was alot of chapters they didn't do or straight up just changed but kept alot of the voice actors here. Especially yugis. Maybe people would find it weird with yugi girly voice but I guess incontrast to yami voice its defo unique.
I kinda wish they would make an anime remake that adapted (Aka combining Season 0 and DM into one) and followed the manga more faithfully, but that would never happen as long as Konami still holding the series' right.
Well, Yugi's actress, Megumi Ogata voiced Shinji in NGE back in the 90s, then returned to voice him again in Rebuild of Evangelion, so you never know. If they ever reanimate season zero, maybe she'd be open to voicing Yugi and Yami again.
Honestly prefer this Yami Yugi voice over the version from the Duel Monsters Japanese version. That VA always sounded like he was trying too hard imo, but this Yami Yugi has the perfect smooth voice that I imagine when I'm reading the early chapters of the manga.

Ushio, just a heads up... Whenever you let someone fall to their "death" and they still have their hands in their pockets and are grinning, that's usually a bad sign for you. XD
When Dark Yugi picks his first card, the translation says ''I've got a 10.'' He's climbing higher than Tetsu (Ushio), so that can't be the right number obviously. He's actually saying '13' instead.
That wasnt even a 10, in fact the card was a King, look at the card when he says '10', either that was a animation error or a script error idk but still

This season is very different from the show we know and love, however I highly implore reading the actual original run of the manga. This season of the show does it no justice, and the tone is far better conveyed.
