Ron is the absolute best at these do it yourself videos. I really enjoy his tense free walk through, even though that I know it's my turn next. He provides me with enough confidence to try it myself. I wish he was still alive to know his impact on me, rest in peace Ron.
It allways saddens me to see polite and nice people get aged, it reminds me that we are only here for a certain amount of time.

I'm doing plywood cut into strips and fastened to the ceiling so I get long planks. It'll definitely be cheaper but this Armstrong stuff is okay.
@B Babbich nah I just go to lowes and use my military discount cheap wood is hard to find. Gotta sort through it all and find the good ones I'd never get lowes wood delivered.
Thank you!! I'm currently designing a reflected ceiling plan on autoCAD and am trying to decide what ceiling I should use for an 8ft ceiling height floorplan. I was looking through Armstrong already to see if they had any ceilings that weren't suspended, and this just might work.

The tracks run across the joists (perpendicular) and if you have sheetrock that is beginning to sag will those metal tracks provide some support? Are the metal tracks rigid? They look really wimpy I see the screws bending the track even with your skilled hand. Thanks!
why do the tracks have to perpendicular to joists. Can you affix them on standard 16 inch joists, so that the boards will run perpendicular to the joists?
Can bugs live and multiply in the gap between ceiling and wood planks?

Can you just nail the planks into the studs through the drywall instead of spending money on the metal brackets?
Yeah that’s what I would do with tongue and grove or ship lap planks.

How can it expand if you screw it into the joist on both sides? Or is the last plan only into the track?
I'm trying to do a room that has existing real beams that are actually part of the structure I want to lay a ceiling on top of the beam so the beam show could this be adapted for that

Nice. I wonder how much for the special system...OK just saw about $5 per square ft of panels, then there is hardware. Its a great looking ceiling. But.. Just saw virtually same price for 5 inch wide teak panels (3/4 inch thick by 6 foot long.)

It is called Armstrong Easy up track and easy up clips I have this exact ceiling in my house

@@Sjrick it was pretty easy to install I can't exactly remember the square footage of what I used I think the total cost from lowes was about a little over a thousand but I can't really remember

Expensive yes, but no more than cost of good quality flooring per square foot coverage. All depends on the budget.🙂
Can this system be installed over a 'pop-corn' ceiling?
Yes, but you need to scrape the popcorn where the tracks will be for best results.

Good work Ron! This Old House has nothing on you. It’s surprising how much end and side gaps this material requires. 1/2” and 3/4” is a lot.
you didn't need a stud censor to find the stud. He's the one wearing glasses.

This looks more expensive than the cost of the $600 drop ceiling price. How much did this cost to do, and for what size room? If you can't answer my question, then it did in fact cost more. Not cheaper than drop ceiling.
Mine works too. I used the Woodglut plans and performed it without any problems.
Uhhhggghh!!! Awful....I see homes with this plank stuff. Looks cheap like a manufactured home. Beachy look my behind.
looks nice and modernized to me. everybody has their opinion about it. sounds expensive though cuz i see many of the newer modern homes with this ceiling design.
