Anthony you will probably never see this, but you are hands down my favorite LTT employee. Your growth and comfort in front of the camera has not gone unnoticed.
The fact theyve hidden some of my most used right click options (rename, winrar, 7zip) behind another click infuriates me on a level I did now know I had in me. For real this feels like minimalism for the sake of minimalism and is why I hate modern design
The new contex menu uses a new API. You need the dev to implement their apps to the new contex menu that's why Microsoft still provide "show more" option so some legacy app still can be accessible until they move to the new API. And Rename is in the new contex menu. It's between copy and delete button.
The "see more" menu pretty much sums up what i HATE about the Windows user experience. They never include everything in their new-fangled apps and menus so they have to send you to the older implementation that it was supposed to replace. It just breaks whatever illusion of seamlessness you may have had.
Yeah. Whenever they're "reworking" something they just add a new thing instead of actually overhauling the old one, and the new thing is then just incomplete enough that you have to keep going to the old one.
11 looks like more of the same of what 10 is. A mishmash of new "user friendly" glossy UI but all the advanced customization features are hidden away under the old W7 menus. They're trying to idiot proof the OS with big shiny buttons but they don't update the complex features to the new design. It's just tacked on. That's why Control Panel still exists despite the whole PC settings menu being designed to replace it. If Microsoft wants a new OS they should just build it from the ground up instead of trying to improve/change things. Every update that brings new features seems to break something that then requires a workaround to fix.
@@scopie49 That’s sort of an unfair characterization. If you look at the settings app vs the control panel, features have been steadily migrated from the control panel to the Settings app with every release. Windows 11 has moved a large chunk of them as well. In practice, Settings has gone from an app I totally ignored to one that can handle the majority of my configuration tasks. It’s been a clumsy process, but I don’t think there was a better option. “Start from the ground up” is an obvious non-starter; that would require an insane amount of development effort and it would be a bug-ridden mess. This is a game that Microsoft has played for decades: picking and choosing where to spend their development hours. Sometimes they choose well, other times not so much, but I think this time they’ve made the right calls.
This. I hated the new windows settings when they introduced it. I just cannot seem to find whatever I want hidden behind those tiles and the confusing menu structure and I constantly found myself going back to the oldschool control panel. I understand that they want to make it look less cluttered but as a result, every of those handful of tiles now has so much content and options hidden behind them that it's really not intuitive at all where you need to go to find whatever setting you are looking for. The old system might have been ugly but at least you had a good and accessible overview of everything. So many of those new design choices feel like they're made with phones and tablets in mind to create a more unified experience across devices like the completely useless launchpad that Apple introduced for MacOS a while ago. The end result is far too often something that is just not as good as it used to be for a mouse-and-keyboard input style.
@@christianseibold3369 I mean technically every OS begins from nothing. I just mean at this point they need to decide what the hell they want Windows to be at a base level and build EVERYTHING on top of it rather than this backwards compatibility that extends 20 years.
Yes it's like communism. Everyone is same. Why has to be the same os interface for both pcs and handheld devices. Maybe someone likes this. I get irritated of the big ugly icons, half screen menus, funy bulky start menu, head bar filled with "common" large previewing icons instead of menu bars as it is made for 5 year olds. I guess I am a retro grumpy old guy who doesn't like flashy icons doing a flip and roll before opening an app, like a dog goes around in circles 3 times before laying down. I should appreciate that it tries to entertain while it opens a document or so.
This. Was hoping when Windows Terminal came around with tabs that they will finally start working on that. Even if it's like an explorer replacement on github at first with it build into a release in the future. But guess this stuff people have been asking for since forever isn't going to happen
I think some of the smaller things like that WILL end up toggleable eventually Or at least some nice, lightweight configurator will come along and fix it all for us.
I've heard that's for technical reasons: The "show more options" shows the old legacy UI, that uses old internal APIs, they replaced them by new APIs for apps to integrate into the context menu, we just need to wait for developers to catch up
its a classic reskin in process. When we re skin any feature, we always put a show more button to show the old ui so none of the other testing gets disturbed. It will get removed when all the features are implemented in the reskin and the supervisor has cleared it as bug free.
This is probably my #1 gripe that will prevent me from upgrading. Then again, none of my gripes with 10 were ever addressed, so I'll continue to use 7.

not more intuitive I think, just more shiny & modern-looking (more Mac-like or mobile-like design language). It will probably work well for any surface tabs but Windows 10's sharp corners vs MacOS's soft rounded look fit both of their respective signature target demographics (i.e. productive office people vs creative artsy people), and the sharp corners by default enabled having both sharp corners for most apps & rounded for those that use custom window frames instead (like Electron apps). Rounded does look more friendly all around though They need to tweak the balance of minimalism & simplicity
For everyone that wants to try Win 11, remember that if you use win 11 for more than 10 days, you cannot roll back to your old win 10. SHIFT + F10 bring up full menu every time but I agree, dump move. Most people know the shortcuts keys to copy, cut and paste. Properties is ALT + ENTER. I hope they give an option for users to change it so it display the full menu no matter what
@Cindy SparkleFarts while people focus on the UI changes (some are good, some are not like the stripped down right click menu) this is pretty much 100% about security. In fact, If you have supposed hardware (mainly supported CPU), you can get every single security feature that is gained in windows 10. If you have supported hardware I'm unsure why you wouldn't upgrade. I do agree the added security is going to cause headaches for home users. Do you think the average user is going to know what to do if they are prompted for a bit locker key because the bios got reset? I had that happen, my battery on the motherboard was lose so when I unplugged the power cord the BIOS went back to the default settings, including the secure boot keys and certs, if you have your BL key then you just enter it and it fixes itself. MS tried to make secure boot mandatory in 8.1 but backed down due to user outrage. The CPU compatibility list is due to the virtual based features needed. VBS requires. MS actually goes into detail about this but yet refuse to publicly say why these new virtualization technologies, or updated existing ones are required. Defense Guard took some steps as it only works with edge natively but there is an extension for Chrome/Firefox. This is more geared towards businesses as you need a gpo, (you can setup the local policy if you want) Essentially I'd you go to a url on the not approved list, it opens in a virtualized tab, completely isolated from the rest of the OS so no malware or ransomware effects the system. While this sounds similar to sandboxing tabs, same concept but more secure as it protects the kernel at all costs. Time will tell but my company already announced that they will be pushing windows 11 although they are going to have to buy some new hardware www.google.com/amp/s/www.zdnet.com/google-amp/article/ok-microsoft-you-win-im-buying-a-windows-11-pc/ Now, with this required hardware-enforced containerization and virtualization tech, Windows 11 will isolate applications and processes much more easily. It will be much more difficult for malware in an errantly running application to access resources it isn't supposed to. It will only access the resources in that specific application task that it infects, such as a particular browser tab. It won't have a free run of the OS, and if the infected task is detected based on its known malware signature, it's nuked in orbit. Core Isolation requires a hypervisor, whereas MDAG appears to use host-based virtualization (which has less stringent hardware requirements), which could be the difference. So it's unknown at this point if Gen6 systems like my 2016-era Dell XPS 8900 (Intel Skylake) running on the prerelease today will still be working on the gold release of Windows 11 in October. It would be nice if they did. I'm not counting on it.
What I've learned from this is all of the positives are things that Ubuntu has had for years and all of the negatives are weird unnecessary features that will be at best ignored and at worst inconvenient (the "see more options" in the right click menu, the widget display, the extra spacing for touch features). So with a few more iterations, Windows will become linux and then it'll be great!

Microsoft really needs to drop the grandfathered outdated code/settings/apps and have a better team to work on a cohesive design. It seems like they are trying but, as huge as they are, they have created a mess. I wonder if they have a management problem internally.
@@Norweeg I'd rather they stick with their old design that people know. Fact is that windows 10 was acceptable because it kept more of what people liked about windows 7 and earlier windows than what windows 8 did. Trying to mess with the user interface yet again is a boneheaded move. You can color or stylize the UI, but don't you dare change how it works, or it will be a failure. I'm predicting windows 11 to solidly fail as MS still hasn't fully learned that lesson yet.
A few big cons about windows 11 for me would be, you currently can't change the taskbar size, and when you have the taskbar set to auto hide it sometimes doesn't work or pop up when you mouse over it. Hopefully these things would be fixed when more people start using windows 11.

I might hope Microsoft brings back actual taskbar customization, as I (and many others) can't stand the icon grouping. Also, you can no longer drag a file onto an icon on the taskbar so you open the file with that program. It now requires you to open the program and drag the file in. Very inconvenient. It just seems that this redesign follows on with the "looks like it's made for kids" trend. Anyways, by 2025 I'm sure there's someone who made a mod for these issues. Until then, no Windows 11 here.
Agreed. I hate the icon grouping so much. @@djcgjhvicbimgvvn Control Panel is in Windows 11. I agree Widgets and news feeds are dumb. By far, it's about security. The CPU compatibly list is due to VBS. In fact, secure boot is based on Sony's rootkits when they applied it to CD's, neither of these are really the issue if you have a PC from 2011 or later.
If you don't have a supported CPU then stick with 10, it will run faster, and has been proven. The compatible CPUs has to be able to do VBS (Virtual based security, or a specific version of VBS). If your CPU doesn't have this, windows 11 will run SLOWER then Windows 10. VBS isn't strictly for OS virtualization, it's used to sandbox apps in a virtual environment so it can't touch the rest of the OS. it's used in non virtual OSs also. Secure boot and TPM is for malware and ransomware. I believe around 70 percent of ransomware is through a compromised boot process that loads an unauthorized OS with no user knowledge at all. Since the federal government took less then a day to pay the ransomware for that oil pipeline, expect ransomware attacks to grow very, very quickly. It'll probably change design a bit before release but it's a bad sign that you need to perform one more click every time to get exactly what we get in Windows 10. Why is Microsoft trying to make it harder to do common tasks in Windows 11?
@@matthewparker9276 Because they are trying to make Windows more like Android or iOS, so they can sell stuff on Windows store and control their users more.
All UI-based distoros are copies of windows, if you know your history. Seem you new generation millennials who started using linux recently are confused about who copied who.
Everyone: "We want more functionality in the default notes app. It's been the same since XP" Microsoft: "We have changed everything except the notes app!"
Do not forget OneDrive and Teams. Why are these apos so intertwined in the OS? Edge, OneDrive and Teams should be like any other applications that can be removed and replaced by something else if the user wants to or kept if they want to use them.
I'm impressed by your faith that Microsoft will continue to allow the spyware telemetry to be disabled at all. I mean, they're removed taskbar customisation. They've made it as awkward as possible to change the default browser. The "news and weather" shit that they're foisting upon us - that, of course, uses the Edge browser if you click on anything - with no "on / off" switch anywhere. This all suggests they're very much doubling down on the "my way or the highway" attitude. "Here is the Microsoft experience. Accept it. Resistance is futile".

I think it's important to remember that actual users aren't really part of the conversation when it comes to Microsoft making UI changes. It's all about turf wars between internal groups within the Windows business unit, and layers upon layers of program managers bikeshedding _their_ precious vision. 11 is another Vista.
yeah to me it seems that it's going to be a pain in the ass, and that we will need to wait for windows 12 to get a "modern" windows. Honestly windows 10 is still a fucking pain in the ass to use if you want to do "advance" stuff.
the thing is, you may be somewhat right. You see, Windows 7 was just Vista with 1 or 2 adjustments. Vista failed because PC manufacturers tried to sell their old XP PCs as Vista PCs, despite the jump in hardware requirements, and then blamed Microsoft when everybody complained. I can easily see something like that happening this time around with the boost to minimum specs, especially as far as RAM goes.

I think some of the smaller things like that WILL end up toggleable eventually
Or at least some nice, lightweight configurator will come along and fix it all for us.
It is configurable, unfortunately it requires the application developers to use the new context menu APIs to add them in, but it is coming.

I want this sculpted on the moon
Time will tell but my company already announced that they will be pushing windows 11 although they are going to have to buy some new hardware
www.google.com/amp/s/www.zdnet.com/google-amp/article/ok-microsoft-you-win-im-buying-a-windows-11-pc/
Now, with this required hardware-enforced containerization and virtualization tech, Windows 11 will isolate applications and processes much more easily.

There's only 2 control panels on windows 11, the legacy one and the new one, just like windows 10.
What are the six control panels?
When will people learn that all you need is dwm and dmenu.
A few big cons about windows 11 for me would be, you currently can't change the taskbar size, and when you have the taskbar set to auto hide it sometimes doesn't work or pop up when you mouse over it. Hopefully these things would be fixed when more people start using windows 11.

Ill always hate it when people make things "smoother" by putting the useful stuff behind an idiot-stable menu
Agree, what I hate most about Win10 is what use to take a click or two for an advanced setting was doubled at least. Have said for years they should have a GUI option for standard/basic or advanced user. Or default to advanced user when logged in as administrator to unhide and bring all advanced settings/menus to the foreground. From an IT standpoint Win10 leaves much to be desired, get the feeling it will largely be the same with 11. And no right-click... oh my...

Yea, redesigning the whole OS around touch is wrong to me, especially when most users won't have a touchscreen.
Under the hood optimisations for touch with a mode switch, yes 100% do that, but forcing simplistic menus and options on power users is going to push them away.

A summary of Anthony's feelings about Windows 11: "Good luck with that."
I've never been able to do that with Windows10?
@@hambo76 that's a question?
I just want my taskbar at the top and yet cant do that with win11
oh god, if taskbar icons are always combined thats a deal breaker
Agreed. I hate the icon grouping so much. It makes it so much harder to work with multiple windows and take things that could have just taken a glance and one click before now take multiple clicks and more confusing appearances. There's no reason for it and no reason to remove the option to turn this off like in every other version.
i legit wish Microsoft would just drop the idea of Edge entirely .. i promise NO ONE will be upset
Removing and/or burying advanced settings and features for the sake of simplicity feels like a slap in the face to power users.
I mean I'm all for simplifying UIs, but there should be a way to enable more advanced ones as well. This way both worlds win.
They did the same thing with moving from Windows 7 to 10. Basic, easy to access features and settings all got shoved under "advanced" menus that required extra clicks. Drove me crazy for the longest time, now it looks like they're just making it even worse.
simplifying ui is always good sacrifices but the thing we sacrificed for doesnt even look that good and minimal
It's what Apple did in Mac os. The power user market isn't the largest. They worry more about pulling people from Apple.
@@KhromTX main problem is that Windows 10 settings are so disjointed. You have your newfangled settings with huge options, so you could also change them on a touch screen.
But then not all settings are in there and you need to go to Windows 7 style small settings to change a lot of vital things.
What the hell? Maybe only implement that new settings UI once you actually migrated all the settings?
How the hell is that even still a thing? 10 has been out for years. How haven't you migrated all the settings and retired the old menus yet? It's truly baffling.
ah yes, less customization options and more hidden and frustrating features in general is what we all wanted from windows))
Yeah, it really has a Vista 2.0 vibe to it...
@@naioma355 more like Windows 8.2 because they are trying to target that touch screen market again. I do not understand why because most Windows users only use mouse and keyboard.
what grinds my gears is the centered icons on the taskbar and forced horizontally. I use two monitors in 16:9 arrangement, i got the most space horizontally i dont need my taskbar there. And programming in a IDE is more useful if i can utilize all vertical space for text and whatnot. Same goes for browsing as well, use the vertical space. I dont need the horizontal space for very long sentences. The taskbar and the new context menu are the worst. I also use startmenu live tiles quiet a bit. so i am not amused by the new widget feed either. Hilarious and on point.
How is that any different than mac or linux?
@@djcgjhvicbimgvvn Control Panel is in Windows 11. I agree Widgets and news feeds are dumb. By far, it's about security. The CPU compatibly list is due to VBS. TPM and secure boot have been around since around 2011.
I do think MS should sell a Windows 11 Home version that didn't require this as it is mostly a move for enterprise businesses but Windows Home is so limited at this point I don't know why anyone would use it. You can even use Remote Desktop anymore on Home, and yes, VNC is always an option but they have been yanking features from Home over the last five years or so.
With this required hardware-enforced containerization and virtualization tech, Windows 11 will isolate applications and processes much more easily. It will be much more difficult for malware in an errantly running application to access resources it isn't supposed to. It will only access the resources in that specific application task that it infects, such as a particular browser tab.

8:00 I'd like to be hired by Microsoft for maintaining Notepad with a fixed salary. "Want me to develop any new features this year?" "No!"
Lol
Everyone: "We want more functionality in the default notes app. It's been the same since XP"
Microsoft: "We have changed everything except the notes app!"
Even a slight UI update would be nice 😔
never heard a soul ask for a notepad update but alright
@@lap4162 maybe because everybody uses Notepad++ anyway? Still would be nice if the built in notepad would be useable.
Microsoft did give us a sneak peek of the notepad redesign tho
I like notepad. I don't want any change in notepad. It's simple for simple use.
honestly I can't imagine any more ways Microsoft can try to shove edge down our throats even more than this...
Do not forget OneDrive and Teams. Why are these apos so intertwined in the OS? Edge, OneDrive and Teams should be like any other applications that can be removed and replaced by something else if the user wants to or kept if they want to use them.
Microsoft: Just wait for the full release.
I find Google drive easier to use, but the cost benefit of onedrive is really good
im currently using edge, there is nothing bad about it it is just basicly google chrome so there is no reason to download chrome
@@SweatyFeetGirl Maybe, but it should not be integrated into the OS unless the user wants it.

Search can actually find files now?
Also exactly how much spyware telemetry will need to be disabled this time?
that feel having to customize another Win OS+frame when forced to use it like with Win10 T_T"
@@klaxoncow as for me , Win10 updates end in 4-5 years so Iv got some time to think about getting a new pc/processor that can handle it and do research and framework+coding to customize Win11 (if possible) or just stick with what I have atm?
How many telemetry should be disabled
Microsoft: Yes.
KlaxonCow would Windows 11 Enterprise Edition be different? Since Enterprise is for corporations they would have to allow more stuff to be turned off by the Administrator
It kinda reminds me of Ubuntu's old Unity interface, only with more focus on polish and less focus on core usefulness.
ok neckbeard
Nah, looks more useful than Unity. I've tried several versions of Unity and always ended up getting rid of it. It's a horrible, frustrating abomination. The fact the devs thought a swipe-away lockscreen on desktop was a great idea says everything you need to know about Unity.
@@girlsdrinkfeck cry about it
@@IronIsKing no thanks ,i will stick to what " just works " windows ,not neckberd incel OS
Im probably going to make 1 more windows pc and then go linux cuz by then linux support for gaming will be also better one way or another
5:35 .. wanna command line opened in location where you are in explorer (file one), so just klick to URL bar and type cmd + Enter. And cmd.exe will open just in the location where you've been. Want to have Power Shell instead of old cmd .. just typ powershell to URL bar and enter.
To be more specific it's Windows 8 2, electric boogaloo.
Windows is trying to become a tablet OS again and it's going to be aweful again.
Welp, this time I'm going to Garuda Linux so bye bye microderp
@@UNSCPILOT Garuda isn’t the best place to start with new Linux. I’d definitely recommend something Debian/Ubuntu based, as Arch(the base Linux district of Garuda) can sometimes break.
Zorin OS, Elementary, Ubuntu, Or Fedora are my recommendations for new users to Linux
@@PotatotheTroll Right on, I know it's an unpopular opinion, but I actually LOVED Vista compared to XP, I used it on my own Custom built laptop and I don't understand all the hate it go.
It did in fact change the way we use computers, it bought some "modern" features. One thing that I absolutely loved, was how the search function didn't fucking suck balls.
I love Dogs, but Bob can go fuck off, I could never find a single useful file even though I know the general location of the file.
Compared to Windows 7? yeah Windows Vista was bad.
I also think that the system requirements here is going to hurt a lot, I'm sure there's a whole bunch of shit laptops that are going to use "Windows 11 ready" as a selling point, but I feel like a lot of people will simply be stuck with their old laptops using Windows 10 because... well it's not supported, and the option is to buy a new laptop.
As somebody that has worked in IT and has helped countless friends, family, and friends of friends of friends, I can assure you they do now rock the latest and greatest laptops on the market.
I think that here Apple has a great chance to eat a good bunch of the Windows market, but better yet, I think that Linux has a superb chance to show off the benefits of Linux and give people with "dying" laptops a chance to try it out.
I wasn't so sure about windows 10, I mean it's usefulle to game withoug having to deal with compability issues on Linux, but it looks like Windows 11 is going to be a pain in the ass to use unless I drop all my old habits.
Why did they take away the "Combine taskbar when full" option in taskbar settings? This is a pretty big deal breaker for me.
same for moving the taskbar and rightclicking on it
the taskbar is literally one of the only things putting me off
It's the straw that broke the camel's back...one step over the line...a bridge too far. Good-bye 11. We done.
do they have a setting to move the icons back to one side so i can use my taskbar for open windows? idiots wasted the whole taskbar putting icons in the middle
same, the only reason i rolled back to windows 10
Yep. The W11 taskbar looks pretty, but has lost damn near all of it's functionality features. You can't even drag a file into another program or window using it anymore.
When going detailed enough to distinguish between 98 and SE, one shall not leave out 2000.
It wouldnt have fit the pattern... he would have had 2 bads in a row....
NT
He did not leave out Windows 2000. He said "Windows me" (Windows Millenial Edition) which is Windows 2000.
By that silly good-bad-logic, Windows 8.1 should have been good and Windows 10 bad again.
Let's just skip some releases until the desired pattern matches. :^)
@@paulvorderegger1522 Sighs....
Windows 2000 was the successor to windows NT version 4.
Windows ME was based on DOS and was the last DOS-based operating system from Microsoft.
U can see the task manager and other options by rightclicking the winfows logo in the taskbar
