Saw this live three years ago. One of my least favorite Christmas songs and I was an eager participant in the standing ovation. Brilliantly orchestrated! Kudos to David Chase.
Right?? One year my husband's holiday "party" was to take the whole company to the Pops for Christmas and they did it. The whole audience was screaming it was so funny! They've added more visual flourishes: chorus members holding up the numbers, more lords "leaping" etc but it's still just great.
This beyond brillant (totally agree!) arrangement was created by David Chase (+ orchestrated by Don Sebesky). If you are interested to learn about how it was created, there is a fascinating conversation between Keith Lockhart and David Chase: th-cam.com/video/zY-knp5ABK4/w-d-xo.html Also, Paula Leggett Chase, David's wife, commented about it 5 years ago: "My husband David Chase created this magnificent arrangement 10 years ago in August in a hot, dusty 9' by 10' room on our upright piano, almost completely obscured by stacks of furniture and boxes We were in the middle of a renovation and move and almost all of our belongings were stuffed into two rooms on the 6th floor of an old Manhattan prewar. I remember the dust motes swirling around us, and the sweat and joy as this piece came together." Precious!

greatest 9 minutes of music ever.
I just saw this live today and absolutely was in hysterics at the can-can verse. And the Swan running into Swan Lake.
Just heard this being played on classic fm and raced home to watch it! Outstanding performance and arrangement ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎶👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Siri😀
Magnificent piece of work. Keith Lockhart is a brilliant conductor, but he can also be a delightful ham. Music is always fresh and inspiring.
I once had the pleasure of seeing them perform this live -- it was fantastic!
Awesome!
