My personal preference is a strong voice like her's for this role, almost a rock strength and thick resonating timbre. This is my fav, I'm kind of blown away...clap clap and all that.
She's excellent. I never understood the appeal of Patti. She certainly could act, but in my opinion she screamed the singing and her pronunciation was unclear.
Every time she sings “I’m their saviour” I literally get chills! The way she not only sings that line but delivers it with her stage performance is incredible 😍
What I love about her is that she’s actually acting the part, some of the others (amazing also) just sing the part through but she’s actually acting it and giving it emotions and expressions
Personally I love how young caroline bowen makes eva here. Like an excited girl getting ready for a party that dad is paying for! I think we forget eva was 26 ish and had just gotten what she dreamed of all her life xxx brilliant performance xxx
How does that comport with her bareknuckles argument earlier in the play with Juan in "A New Argentina," when she hardly acts like a giggly 26-year old (how many giggly 26-year olds do you know?), but a hardened politician? She overwhelms his arguments with her own. She doesn't win him over by cuddling, for example. Ms. Bowman's voice is fine, but there is so little nuance here, unlike with Patti LuPone, until we get to that odd rendition of the words "Lauren Bacall," which I don't get. She skips over Christian Dior and Machiavell(i), when they would have been important to Evita. Yes, Ms. Bowman acts this scene with the excitement of a girl getting ready for a party. No way to know if that was her idea or the director's, of course.
Totally not me stalking Caroline’s entire past on Broadway becoming a bigger fan with every video I find. Caroline has such a skill for not only singing with such clarity and talent but also making every role she plays come alive as if she IS that person, not just role playing. She’s so committed she becomes the person.
The actimg and voice are great. The staging is just so bland and boring. None of the drive of other productions. Its too bad, because the performers are great but bogged down by awful direction.
Great voice. The costume is an exact replica of an outfit the historical woman wore in Europe. The hat is different though. However, although I love this Eva. Her voice is rich and great for the character, this is one of the numbers were the original staging is better. "Rainbow High" in Prince's original staging is one of my favorite numbers. Like the song, it is dazzling the way Eva comes across... Frantic, excited, hard as nails, excruciatingly glamorous ... and when the men glam her up and one wraps her up with a fur wrap at the end, it was icing on the cake...I assume the real Eva Peron would have liked that staging better :-) Thanks for posting this. Still waiting for a good staging of Evita to come to Toronto.
I think she nailed the modulation at 1:27 and I loved her Lauren Bacall-like mannerism shortly after. The staging is something of a snooze but La Bowman electrifies. There is one exception the staging when the "not decorating" interaction occurs at 1:46 ish. . That was brilliant and well acted.
@@breannaastor7075 right!? Like she totally did that! Love, love, love, how thoughtful you consider this performance is. While belting through the roof!
It´s always interesting to hear and share different opinions and my respect to all. We musn´t forget that it´s a very difficult part to sing in the original key (unlike Madonna of course), act and dance. So I can only praise any actress playing this very demanding part so many shows a week. I have seen many Evitas over the years; Caroline is fabulous, great acting and singing. She hits the notes and has the belting power required. She also learnt about the real Eva Peron and this shows in her acting. We musn´t discourage these young actresses with comparisons and negative comments, yet I am sure that Caroline would welcome any "constructive" criticsm necessary to improve and get better.
I saw EVITA National Tour at Kennedy Center Sept 2014. Awesome Awesome Awesome. Wish EVITA would tour again or at least come back to Broadway. Caroline Bowman is from Maryland.
I saw her in the Evita tour stop in San Antonio, Texas...sometime around 2014? The Evita character was a vast improvement over the thin voiced Elena Roger in the 2012 Broadway revival. I was at that revival's 2nd preview. The lead's voice was very, very underwhelming. Caroline Bowman possesses a strong voice that makes for a formidable Evita.

I’ve always thought this to be very clumsy staging of this number. Too much going on for the performer to shine in a stand-out number. She sings it beautifully here, but the staging is almost designed to trip her up Look at Larry Fuller’s simple and highly effective staging in Hal Prince’s original production to see how to really make this number work
Pauly- Walnuts I disagree Elena Rogers deserved that role. Her energy was absolutely fantastic. Her acting superb. The only reason it didn't succeed was because no one wanted a revival in the first place. No actor could save it.
Joseph Carlisle But the revival was necessary at last for me as an Argentinean, Andrew Lloyd changed the music for good and now is more a like at ours. Before the music sounded more like salsa than tango.
Julieta Jazzmín because Andrew Lloyd Webber thought the music of Argentina was similar to its brother Mexico’s music, and put instruments like maracas into the original broadway recording to channel the stereotypical Latin sound. Argentina’s music isn’t as wild as the rest of Latin America. Though it was nice in the revival to cast Latins like Ricky Martín and Elena Roger, it did really bring out the Latin flavors in the music and hearing Buenos Aires and descamisados being pronounced correctly for the first time
@@user-oj7bn5fq4m And also, another plus is that the music ROCKS again! ("A New Argentina" and the last half of this song, starting around 1:49 is the perfect example of what I'm talking about.)

Good God...the staging. Could it get any more boring? The Eva has got a fantastic voice. The orchs are OK and close to the originals. They should have fired the director and designers and this would have been much more within the league of the fabulous Eva seen here.
I agree. Staging completely misses any and all opportunities to make this number the theatrical stunner that it is. The Harold Prince staging, though incredibly simple, was absolutely thrilling, abstract, and highly theatrical!!
+Dianaemanuel totally agree about the staging compared to the original. but I'm confused on the comments regarding her wig. I don't see anything wrong with it??
*LaMisere HQ* it appears they were trying to be too literal, like the film. But EVITA only works as Brechtian, IMO. (Unless a unique production convinces me otherwise.)
Totally agree with everybody, who says that her voice is amazing. It's absolutely brillant! But the acting is not perfect. At some moments, she really reflects the character of Eva, but at times she kind of "goes out" of it and becomes someone else (or herself).

the only thing I hate is the tempo! which of course is not her fault she sounds amazing!! She makes a better eva than and elphaba her belt suits eva so much better!
This just reminds me of some local town attempt at the musical theatre. She was hamming it up on lines that are much darker. I am not sure she (or the director) understood the material with all of these cheesy smiles.
She’s saying “Christian Dior me” but the suit she’s wearing likely wouldn’t have been made by Dior. (Because she didn’t wear Parisian couture or embrace Eurocentric fashion trends until she saw it on the Rainbow Tour) I think it’s foolish of a costume designer to go for perfect historical accuracy. The iconic white gown in Don’t Cry For Me is based Dior gowns she wore later and the low chignon hair is the same. It’s storytelling not replication. Give me a Dior Bar Suit.
I have such a deep hatred for this costume design. (Yes I know it’s probably something she would have worn or at least more accurate) but when she says “Christian Dior me” it makes no sense for her to put on an outfit that wouldn’t have come out of the atelier. I want a fuller skirt.
Same. I'm not a fan of the changes made to the 2006 London/2012 Broadway revivals, particularly the new orchestrations. The choreography/staging was kind of idiotic, too. That said, this chick's pretty good, but she'd be better in a production of the original.
I love her voice but her interpretation of how Eva Perón was during this time as she was getting ready for the Rainbow(European) tour, I feel like it was all wrong because of how political minded she was and even during the time the late 1940s how women in politics had to be I feel like the giddy overly happy and bright emotions just don’t fit for this at all yea she was only what 27,28 during the time but she was preparing to go meet the main European world leaders and trying to convince them to give their support to Argentina and see them as an actual power and so I feel like and know that she wouldn’t have acted like this at all but that’s just me
I completely agree. This interpretation makes absolutely no sense. Evita knows how important this is and knows exactly what she needs to do, and the song is her demanding that they understand. She shouldn't be making cutesy faces at them and acting like this is the first time she's thought of any of this. "OMG, I just realized - I'm their product! 😅 You totally need to sell me!" 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
She should play Galinda in Wicked! This clearly proves to us that she strives to be the next Kristin Chenoweth. But seriously, this song is meant to be about Eva's want and need for power. Caroline Bowman seems as if she thinks this song is about getting ready for prom. She's acting like a pop princess rather the amazing performer that she is. Please don't hate on me for stating MY OPINION!
She is playing Elphaba on Broadway currently. I can't see her as Glinda. I doubt that she would've been able to hit Glinda's high notes. Besides, she is clearly a belter. I'm not sure she would be as good in head voice.
I thought that was perfect! she slided her way into this so superficially--this is her first real venture into public power. it IS her prom, and she is indeed in it for the popularity!
vocally i love her but whenever caroline performs a role she spends the entire show pulling faces. example she will play peeved off and will ptu on a cheshire smile everytime she did the smae in wicked and frozen she has one of the best voices but her facial gestures ruin it for me each time

😅 You totally need to sell me!" 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Love her. But staging is flat
There is only one Patti Lupone.
Elle Woods as Evita Peron
I thought that was perfect! she slided her way into this so superficially--this is her first real venture into public power. it IS her prom, and she is indeed in it for the popularity!
vocally i love her but whenever caroline performs a role she spends the entire show pulling faces. example she will play peeved off and will ptu on a cheshire smile everytime she did the smae in wicked and frozen she has one of the best voices but her facial gestures ruin it for me each time
This is the video i put on when the Hell’s Kitchen gays come over
