I’ve seen a few comments about the noise. We have a Caravelle that also made a strange noise in the rear, but turned out the be wind blowing on the drivers microphone either from an open window or open air vent pointing in this direction, because in the infotainment system there’s voice enhancement setting that allows you to talk to the the rear passengers through the speakers, but it was picking up the wind noise was playing through the rear speakers instead. 20:51
You can also install those windowshields I don't know what they're called exactly the diminish the sound and also keep the rain out.. Offcourse if you don't open up the window all the way.. He should just recharge the AC and keep the caravelle I love it!
They're good cars, quite comfortable and lots of space. I think the spatial awareness thing is something you get used to over just a few drives. Since the bonnet is so short, and the car being so boxy helps with getting used to. My dad had a 1992, 1998, a 2003 and a 2008 Caravelle through the years. It was just after the kids moved out that he bought a smaller one. Great cars.
I've had two, and still got my 68 plates, for daily driving shopping, and school run it's a must, Parking space needs desperately to be updated with modern car sizes, but if you park in parent spaces it's perfect. Keep her she worth they wait in gold. You'll love her the more you drive her. 😊❤
We had one in the family, and although they feel big, you can see all your corners, so it makes it quite easy to drive. With the big glasshouse, they are actually quite good to use as a daily. Also the middle seats spin to face backwards which is fun!!!
The ‘Bus’ is absolutely perfect for a growing family, ultra useful, great on fuel and hold its value! Just let the Mrs get used to the size and it’ll be fine. Great channel and keep up the great work Dean. ✊🏻
We daily drive a t6 shuttle and you soon get used to it. Sometimes get out via the sliding doors in a tight car park 😂 also check your audio settings, I’m pretty sure caravelles have a microphone / speaker setting where it amplifies voices through the stereo so everyone can hear you 👍
I have a T6, I’ve owned it for about 5 years. Like you, I have 3 children under 10, but my ‘van’ is set out as a Kombi, that is 3 seats up front and 3 seats in the back. The van has been a god send, my children were 2, 4, and 6 when I bought it and as you know 3 x Isofix car seats are impossible side by side in most family cars. My wife drives mine with ease, yours will adapt apart from maybe a McDonalds drive through where I normally take over to save my 20” alloys. As a young family you can put prams/buggy in without collapsing them which is amazing on a rainy school run in the morning. It really stops you getting soaked whilst putting them in their seats. As a daily driver, it’s probably the best type of vehicle if you have 3 or, ahem 4 children 😂😂😂. In my street of less than 40 houses there are 5 Transporters, they are the ultimate family vehicle. There are many more in our small village. The Caravelle is so good as one of you can sit in the back with the children when they get older and start scrapping 😳😳😳 Mine is remapped to do over 600 miles to a full tank ( which at todays prices costs £90 ish ) which is known as the 600 club, the bhp is approx 150/160 which makes it quite nippy.
Supermarkets have big parent and child spaces so, no problem parking. I would keep it as it’s a very valid point about dressing the kids in the car. She will get used to driving it as long as she removers it isn’t low down like a saloon car. Kids need a dvd player in the car, they work wonders and places like Halfords sell them quite reasonably too.
14:17 the noise when you have the windows down is a microphone above the drivers sun shade which plays sound through the rear speakers. It’s called something like voice assistance in the sound menu. The idea is it amplifies your voice so those in the back can hear you. This solves the problem you mention at 19:00. Just need to play around with the level in the menu
We had a T5 Shuttle when the kids were younger. They really are a great family vehicle. You can get the whole family, the dog and all their gear in, still room to spare. Fold all the seats flat and you can use it as a van as well.
We had a T6 CARAVELLE executive and had the same issue when the drivers window was open, it came down to the microphone above the driver that is designed to amplify the drivers voice in the back, so it is just effectively amplifying the wind noise through the speakers! Another cool thing to note is that the rear bench seat will fold flat into a bed if ever you need it!
Hi you can buy a cargo net from vw so when you open the boot stuff doesn't fall out . I think your wife will like the caravelle once she drives it more on day use and will get comfortable with the size when parking . Its so versatile for everything in your life plus as the kids get older then they have friends it will do the job well. Yhou can sleep in it move house with it your skoda kodiaq is a great family car but the caravelle does what the skoda but in buckets . Nice to see it fully restored an mot great set of videos from transporter off load to taking it on its first trip
My wife has gone from driving her Audi A1 to our T6 camper and loves it. Took a few trips out to get used to it but now prefers the driving position. No reversing sensors etc just uses the mirrors, angle them correctly and you can easily see the rear quarters.
Defo keep Dean, my wife had our old t5 Reimo camper as the daily driver for 8 years..School runs etc.. if it gets a small knock your the man to repair it. If you can afford to keep it, it’s going to hold its value too..
Ive been daily driving a t5.1 for over 5 years now. Wouldnt change it for anything! The only time its a challenge is down very narrow country lanes as the wing mirrors are massive and easy to catch on walls and hedges.
Hey Guys, I’ve had my T5.1 for the past 8 years and I love it, Im yeah it’s bigger but I get in all the multi story car parks no problem and I’d be lost without it. Give it a chance and Im confident you’ll get used to and not want anything else. 👍🏻
I would personally keep it.. daily it, use it for everything. Had 2 golfs over the past 11 years, step up in 2 years is a T6 bus.. such cool practical vehicles. Looks incredible in that colour scheme. Nice work
U would definitely keep it.... so practical for your business AND the family. Get a Bilstein lowering kit with sway bars.... it will drive like a dream. I'm sure Mrs Dean will love it over time. Good job on the bus, keep up the good work 👍
Take the rear seats out of your not using them and then the pram will go in while up and all your stuff will fit easily. We had a t5 after our twins were born and the space was a god send.
Your wife is absolutely spot on when she’s worried about parking in supermarket car parks etc, so yeah, a few days spent trying it out might be best!👍🏻
Obviously its different in different countries, but for us this never was a problem. My family (parents and us kids) is driving Multivans for yeeaaars without problems. For sure, given the fact, that the Multivan/Caravelle is just long and wide it wont fit in every parking space. But for its size I'd say it fits in more, than small cars if that makes sense. also since its turning on the spot, narrow parking lots aren't a problem. One thing you can however just forget is parallel park in a single slot, when there are cars parked in fornt and in the back...
Dean as a caravelle owner used as a daily driver I would keep it, your wife will get used to it quite quickly fuel economy is not bad I average around 36-40to the gallon more on a run driven sensibly. We find it great aswell for family pick nicks, you'll also get used to packing the boot and not having things fall out, great update and enjoy the caravelle.
@@SavingSalvage Dean mines also a 204 bi turbo 31mpg on your first outing isn't bad once you get used to it you should find it improves, also when you think it is a 2.5 ton brick even 31mpg isn't bad enjoy it.
Well done Deano, another great job knocked out of the park. I thought I had jinxed you on the 1st Caravelle video when I mentioned not completing it and you showing us the video of the wife giving you a bollocking.for not having it ready for your holiday. Good to see you all had a fantastic break.
I’d keep it. It’s a great all round vehicle, and you have a van as well. I bought a LWB Transporter a couple of months ago, and I don’t know how I’ve survived without one..!!
When I'm putting seam sealer over any welding jobs I mask off either side of the weld and leave about 3/4" gap, cut a cheap paint brush down short and apply it. Comes out looking nice.
Re the noise, on the radio you probably have "voice enhancement" enabled - my VW Amarok had this and I noticed strange whistling noise when the window was open even though the vehicle was stationary! It amplifies speech between the front and rear passengers through the radio.
Your tyre pressure warning code to fix it inflate your tyres to the specified PSI / Bar and use the obd scanner and under maintenance to rest the sensors don’t do it via the driver dashboard as it doesn’t always work, if that doesn’t work you need a TPMS tool to reprogram them and this process has to be started by holding push to start button on the vehicle for 10 seconds, I don’t know how it’s done if you’ve got a key and barrel to start the vehicle and it must be done every time a wheel is changed or moved from front to back, your spare tyre won’t have a TPMS module, if this is fitted to the vehicle the warning light will come on, only use your spare in absolute emergencies to get one with the sensor repaired and reset the module after refitting
I used a caravelle daily with no issues. Love the electric sliding doors. Push the rear bench further forward and the boot is plenty big enough. And yes it fits though a drive though.
Well done on finishing the project! The aircon compressor unit on these cars is constantly engaged so driving with an empty system ruins the compressor. Not only compressor needs to be changed but the whole line needs to be cleaned from the abrasive material created. I really hope it didn't get to that stage while you made a little trip. Regarding the intercom - I'd start first with proper sound insulation (including wheel arches and engine partition). I did this in my T6 and it made a big difference. You could go even further by installing double-glazed windows from the Cali models. Having said that, VW did offer intercom as an option on these cars so it could even be possible to fit the original intercom unit. I have 3 kids and we never switched back once we bought the T6. It's just so comfortable. For the boot try t look at multiflex-board type of shelves that are available. This is one of the first things people install in their T5-T6.
Defo a keeper Dean :) Wifey will get used to it no problem ! Loving seeing the 'Family' content too ! Shows the other side of you thats just a regular guy, with regular (great) kids .....oh ....... & a super hot wifey :) Nice job mate !
Keep it! You will not regret it when the kids are mucky etc. plus tailgate in the rain changing shoes and sorting kids out in buggy’s keeps everyone dry. You have an electric tail gate to so once you in the van you can shut it from the inside.
When my 5 children were young, I had a 9 seater Ford Tourneo. It was absolutely lovely to drive. It fitted in mcD drive through, i could park it easily, it was handy as it had one big back door which opened upwards like a garage door. We could sit under it at places
My father run a caravanet as our daily driver for over 25 years and they proved to be the most versatile vehicles we have ever owned , they were a real swiss army knife off the road
You would get used to it very quickly I use my campervan for everyday. Install a rear view camera. Also it’s actually not longer than most estate cars. I park it easily it fits into car parks with height barriers and McDonald’s drive Normal parking spaces. Just change the seats positioning. You won’t want to go back to a car. I felt it was safer as my kids are higher up. I personally haven’t gone back to a car. I started with a Kombi van and now have a campervan all on the transporter base. The practicalities for family life are superior to any car. 😊
So glad you went with stock colours, noticed a few of these since you got yours and the off-white really pops which I think doesn’t come over as well on camera. Well done on completing it anyway.
Keep it, take out the two single seats and move the triple forward on the rails to fit all the kids on one row. Then you have a cavernous boot to play with and can still leave plenty of leg room between the triple and the front seats
I use a cargo net in the back of mine to stop items falling out. Also use a multi pack of bungee cords, use the rear headrests to bungee the pram onto 👍
Van/bus is a keeper and regardless of whether you keep it or not, this video is brilliant for one moment. Your face when your wife says about having another kid.. priceless :) good save on the subject change by talking about the roundabout, nicely done !
Great job, folding storage boxes in the boot, ideal for shopping and bits and pieces. H&R Antiroll bars to stiffen the body roll, I’ve had my Caravelle for 8 years and love it. It’s also great for camping with a side awning
Excellent vlog Dean, a superb job there ol chap, I would keep it, even though it may not be used much around town, instead of it sitting around on your driveway, how about maybe renting it out to people (ones that you know and trustworthy) when you or the mrs aren’t using it, just a crazy idea but possibly worth it, kind regards to you and family, Mark from Billericay 👍😀☀️☀️🇬🇧🇬🇧
Ive had Caravelles and more recently a Mercedes V Class as a daily. Great with kids and so practical. Worst thing is people dinging them with their doors in car parks.
Heko wind deflectors on front door windows will get rid of that noise when you open the windows. It's basically air pressure pulses. A lot of modern cars now suffer from it.
Agreed, As long as you leave it face down when you leave it in the vehicle. Mirrors can start fires when the sun gets involved, although not so likely in the UK atm
No doubt in my mind Dean, keep it, but as we both know at the end of the day it's Mrs Dean who has to drive it. Great bus though and well done on the finished item. Cheers, Bob
The "Vortex" thing happens on a lot of cars i've been in before, if you open two windows it stops it as the air can enter one and exit the other rather than swirling round! Hope it helps!
You can do so much with the VW's, handling can be changed, map the engine and you can remodel the inside to suit your needs. You can also fit a pop top to it which'll give you more headroom. Dean, how do I get in touch with you. Needing a car moved from Stowmarket to Yorkshire.
Take the single seats out the back. Slide the bench seat forwards you will have a huge boot. Every time one of the kids kicks you in the back roll the seat backwards a little bit.
Oh dear god that seam sealer 😂 Does your MOT testing station do any spannering? I’m sure they’d of got you a number plate on the day??? Keep the bus, it’ll be no time before you’ve both adjusted to the size and the way to work the boot/luggage space. Happy travels 👍
Had a long-wheelbase '98 T4, and it was partly amazing and partly horrible. The amazing part was the space, the ability to pull our caravan with absolutely no issue, and the very nice cruise control. The horrible part was that it was a fairly low-spec one with the cheapest seats, which do hurt after some hours, it was quite long (>5m) so parking was a challenge, it didn't have ABS, and the front suspension parts have an expected lifetime of about two to three years, which is why we eventually sold it. Oh, and it was a tax-saving five-seater with a massive boot. Meh. Got a 2004 Touran (7-seater, yeah!) which did have the same very nice cruise control, an engine that had about the same specs as the one in the Caravelle, although it was a four-cylinder 1.9l one instead of the Caravelle's five-cylinder 2.5l. But even if the papers said 100hp and 250Nm of torque, driving with a caravan was very different, as it never could quite pull it uphill the same way the Caravelle did, you had to go to higher RPM and go a gear lower where the Caravelle just pulled through. Also, while the unloaded fuel consumption of the Touran is quite a bit lower than the Caravelle's (which isn't surprising, since the Caravelle is just a bigger box, and it weighs about 300kg more), the Caravan made it use even a bit more fuel. I didn't see that coming.
Looks like front spoiler trim has stone chips also they missed the nearside mirror? Mark on top nearside wheel arch? Mind you couple months of the super market run will make that all blend in lol
As soon as your spatial awareness was mention I was ready to make a comment concerning the battery booster :-) you beat us all to it ha. Great video, looks like a keeper to me. The bus and the Mrs.
I've worked on a lot of these VW transporters, converting then into campervan. It was scary as hell cutting out roofs and windows on vans with only 4 miles on them
That vortex noise happens on a lot of cars if you open the rear windows about an inch whilst the front drivers is open it evens out the air flow and stops the noise.
Toughen up butter?it’s absolutely perfect for a family we had one and loved it and everyone thought my wife was a great driver,we had a lift up roof so we could go camping, now that could be your next video roof rocnroll bed

The noise is called the helicopter effect. Happens on most cars to cancel it out just wind down any other window a bit noise gone 😂
*buffeting
Helmholtz Resonance
But it's not a helicopter .and I'm pretty sure you can't roll a window down on a helicopter 😂

They're brilliant dalies. Hold value too. Love our t5 LWB and size isn't an issue.
Good to see your family on, keep going mate!
Thanks, will do!
good work Dean, great job. Maybe wind deflectors might help with the noise!!
Good idea!
Instead of cutting and soldering you can easily remove the old terminals and wire from the plug and put the ones on the vehicle
Adjust the rear bench position and push it more forward. That should fix the stuff falling out if the boot issue
Great job, folding storage boxes in the boot, ideal for shopping and bits and pieces. H&R Antiroll bars to stiffen the body roll, I’ve had my Caravelle for 8 years and love it. It’s also great for camping with a side awning
Thanks for the info!
Thanks 👍
Oh I'd find room to keep that Dean, I love the looks and the interior.
Ive had Caravelles and more recently a Mercedes V Class as a daily.
Great with kids and so practical. Worst thing is people dinging them with their doors in car parks.
Yes they go though a drive though.
Love mine. But if you decide to raffle it off, I don’t think the tickets will last long. 👍🏼
Heko wind deflectors on front door windows will get rid of that noise when you open the windows. It's basically air pressure pulses. A lot of modern cars now suffer from it.
Good shout! Will look into it cheers!
The Mirror so you can see the baby is genius, must be the Mrs idea! Mine would love it. Love the content 👌
Agreed, As long as you leave it face down when you leave it in the vehicle. Mirrors can start fires when the sun gets involved, although not so likely in the UK atm
@charliejackman2953 as long as you don't forget the baby lol.
@@redordead4491 And leave the mirror face down, not the baby ;)
Hey Dean, always great to see your videos. Hope to soon see the white Porsche again
You and me both! with both my vans broken at the moment I cant take it to be welded :(
Lovely job, she's turned out great. It's a great family vehicle, so I hope your Wife keeps it. Second thoughts raffle it, because I'd love to own it😀
Deffo the right decision to go back to the factory colour scheme 👌🏽 Stunning 😎
Open the opposite rear window stops noise and aids crossflow ventilation
Keep it, they are easier to drive than a normal car, visibility, safety for your most precious and practical.
Would the RS3 engine fit? 🙂
Keep the Caravelle.Caravelle Dean Mrs S will learn to love it I'm sure
Looks like front spoiler trim has stone chips also they missed the nearside mirror? Mark on top nearside wheel arch? Mind you couple months of the super market run will make that all blend in lol
Always a good day when your wife says its huge nice fix dean☺☺
As soon as your spatial awareness was mention I was ready to make a comment concerning the battery booster :-) you beat us all to it ha. Great video, looks like a keeper to me. The bus and the Mrs.
I had too 😂
I've worked on a lot of these VW transporters, converting then into campervan. It was scary as hell cutting out roofs and windows on vans with only 4 miles on them
That vortex noise happens on a lot of cars if you open the rear windows about an inch whilst the front drivers is open it evens out the air flow and stops the noise.
If you want it to drive like a car.. Bilsteins and H&R anti roll bars👍
Yep and it helps setting the suspension to Sport or similar in the car settings menu.
Only with a DCC option. Very few got that.@@Republic3D
Toughen up butter?it’s absolutely perfect for a family we had one and loved it and everyone thought my wife was a great driver,we had a lift up roof so we could go camping, now that could be your next video roof rocnroll bed
Looking good mate, my amarok does the same thing with the window just drop a 2nd window slightly andbit stops gives it a way in and out 👍
I don’t have any other windows to drop 😬
@@SavingSalvageGreat idea then Dean will have 2 wind Vortexes 😂
@@SavingSalvage You could use wind deflectors they might help.
I think your wife should do a video on the practicalities of using the bus for her daily use.
Your spatial awareness is incredible 😂
You’ve done really well on the bus Dean, she wont let if go once she’s driven it bit, looks cool
Welcome to vdub life Dean. Great one mate now the spending starts 😊
Drive thru's aren't a problem, I've got a short wheel base t4 and it's not an issue.
It looks great, you did another great job!
Deff a keeper buss.! Just get used to it. Its such a sweet car
The wife “it’s huge,it’s massive”
Me “that’s what she said”
Anyone else? 😂😂
Rent it when not in use (Turo/Hiyacar). That way you get to use it when you need it and it pays for itself when you are not using it.
Ahh yes the Family outings.
You're making life hard for Yourselves.......Middle age Child = Up Front & Parent on Middle Bench👍👍
As is.....🛒🛒🛒 requires Stopping for Care to be Applied. Issues now Solved with simple Arms reach 👍
Love my current T6 Kombi and I’ve daily’d Transporters for years 👍
The reaction to having another kid 😂 priceless hahaha
haha
It was a great job transforming such a wreck into an almost brand new luxury car. Congratulations
go for it, i have a LWB tourneo, love it, zero issues parking etc, did you keep it?
