Built mainly for lobster but has fish holds as well. Live wells tanks to store lobster or crab. Good offshore multi species rig.

They built boats from 30ft to 65ft in length and 12ft to 32ft in width. This one is 40ft plus 6ft extension and 27ft wide.

Under 50ft for our lobster fishery. Weight makes a difference. Bigger boat have different inspections and requirements as far a navigation and licensing for the captain. These fat 40s allow you to carry the 375 n 400 pot limits me have. The weight (tonnage) is less in these boats and require less of the equipment and other requirements that the bigger boats do. Classified under 15 t even though they are just as wide and go same places the 50 fters do. Hope this helped

@@missinmarblesfishing7119 I'm curious with that beam, what's the fuel burn when trawling and when headed in fully loaded?

@@Prototheria depends on how hard they are run and if livewells are full of water or fish holds full of ice and or fish. They are usually powered by 500 plus horsepower diesels with 4:1 or larger reductions. Fuel isn't much if anymore than the older style skinny footers. Recently a special paint has been developed to reduce drag on the hulls. Fishing boats are slowly going in this direction.

@@missinmarblesfishing7119 Hey, thanks for the quick reply. I'm kind of surprised that the fat 40's burn about the same as the skinny 50's considering the L/B and LWL differences. We have a Hatteras 53ED with a couple 8V-71TI's, and one of our cruising buddies has a Hatteras 56MY with the same engines, same gears (and I think same props, even), but about 2.5' more beam, and they burn a couple GPH more than us despite their cruising displacement being close to ours and the hull form being roughly the same save for the dimensional differences.
