She stated that she knew of a plot to let unbelievers enter the seminary to become priests to ruin the Church. It is well known that the enemy within is always worse than the outside enemy.

Perfecting eating does not necessarily consist in giving up everything one likes or that tastes good. Treats and desserts are allowable, certainly. Pope St. Pius X smoked, for heaven's sake. So did St Padre Pio. Monks invented champaign and make beer and fine coffees. Too much emphasis on health is a fault in itself. It is putting too much emphasis on a temporary thing that will die. Everything in balance, and at the proper time.

My daughter is very spiritual. She says the mercy chaplet prays the rosary loves Padre PIO ......it amazes me because she takes it totally upon herself. I have never pushed anything about formal prayer except for the mass on Sunday I told her that we should go and see Him at church because after all He is always at our and everybody's house but she has received the sacraments and she is going to heaven with no stops as far as I am concerned. Father R. At some point will you address these beautiful souls if you do have any knowledge about the handicapped. You are so intelligent Father but I am taking you to task for using retarded. Me the biggest sinner on earth telling a priest who probably does sacrifices and prayers and fastings and acts of faith and humility and so many other things I have never even imagined . One time I started the conversation and I saw that it made her uncomfortable, so I didn't do it again. God bless you for being a good mom, teaching your daughter about God. I hope everyone is extra nice to her, as they have gentle and innocent souls. Sorry to say, I've been in rebellion with God for my entire life. It has to do with deep wounds of the past, God not coming through when I'd always hoped he would etc. Long story short, Purgatory is what gives me hope when all hope is lost. If it was up to me, I'd choose to be in Purgatory right this moment. The thought of having the assurance of salvation, damnation no longer possible, being purified, healed, made whole with every passing day etc. is a sweet, sweet deal for someone like me. The way my life has been doesn't allow me to love, be close to God, trust him and think he has my best at heart. I can't help but to think God was cruel to create me knowing I'd be mostly an angry, nervous, anxious, miserable wreck fighting depression and despair. Anyway, God bless you and your lovely daughter.

@@phoenixaz8431I totally get you; I’ve suffered from depression since age 16 or 17 and now I’m 56. Realizing too that I’m angry and just basically miserable…. I come across to others, especially those outside my own home as content, happy & peaceful, it’s like healthy/happy folks lift me up and I feel those things when with them, but as soon as I’m alone and often even with my 2 family members here, it’s a very different story. Online I won’t share more, but everything that happens is to purify us gradually and we cannot blame the Lord ; He’s always Loving. This material realm is like a prison for rebellious souls and it’s not His fault that we rebelled. If we just keep praying or connecting to Him in whatever way we can, we WILL have a better situation in our future, guaranteed!!! Don’t ever lose your hope.

@@JoeSmith-bg7no I don't put much faith in scientific studies, to be honest. Data can be analysed (and manipulated) in such a way to support whatever agenda people want. I used to smoke American Spirit too. It definitely smells and tastes better than pretty much any other brand that I've used. Probably because it's natural (I used to buy the organic one too). When I gave up (and every time I tried to give up previously, but was unsuccessful) one of the first changes I noticed was an overwhelming feeling of lethargy. I put it down to not getting my usual stimulant/nicotine hit every hour or so (I was a very heavy smoker... I'd often chain smoke). That feeling corrected itself after about 2 weeks though. Maybe I'm just sensitive to stimulants. We're all different. I definitely have more energy now that I'm a non-smoker. Before I'd have more of a jittery or mental energy, and now I'm definitely more calm mentally, but have more genuine physical energy. Not to mention increased fitness and lung capacity. Giving up really is worth it. Any addiction is bondage to a created thing. Our only strong attachment in life should be God. Addictions get in the way and disrupt our relationship and bond with God.

To "shift from the point of view" of the SUBJECTIVE to "the point of view" of the OBJECTIVE.........Yes, it's absolutely essential for any Catholic seriously committed to personal holiness........but our mostly hidden identification with our selfcentredness caused by Adam and Eve's loss of God centredness, due to their disobedience, ......is so profound, that it's the spiritual work of a lifetime...... the sincere novice who commits him/herself to the resolve to give up attachment to subjectivity, comes to understand that their objectivity is a delusion(success is at best piecemeal, and slow, and painful), and as they grow in Sanctifying Grace will come to see over the course of their lives, just how resistant, how stubborn, their wounded natures are to dying to the old inherited Adam self.
In saying this I do not mean to be pessimistic, which is mostly psychological anyway, but let's face it, there are few Catholics "lining up" for personal holiness........most, as you indicated settle for spiritual mediocrity with the devout hope to die in a State of Grace.
"Transforming Union" with Christ is for a few "chosen" souls. They are the extremists who cannot/will not settle for anything less than the Union of their Immortal Souls with Christ. The yearning, the longing of their raised up wills and intellects, give them no rest until they, by a great inflow of Sanctifying Grace, arrive at complete rest in Christ.
It's not that you are saying anything that is different. In fact, the truth of your complementary understanding inspires me to comment as I have. It's just that you are a theologian, albeit, a devout faithful teacher of church doctrine. However your splendid words are ABOUT holiness, rather than the personal story of your arduous road to holiness.
    God bless.

    • @boomct8569
      @boomct8569 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Good insights Tom. I suspect Fr does not comment about his personal road to holiness for two reasons: 1) to avoid the cult of ‘the priest’ where people start to idolise and canonise living people rather than focus on God
      2) humility - a humble person doesn’t talk about themselves unless strictly necessary and wouldn’t consider themselves good examples of holiness, and prudence - people may take him out of context.
Apparently God wills every single person to get to the transforming union with Him. It’s not supposed to be for a select few but I totally share your pessimism! I know intellectually He’s Perfect and so are all His decrees but I simply don’t understand why God allows Free Will .... it’s not panning out well for most of us!!

    • @tomhealey8214
      @tomhealey8214 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@boomct8569 ....you raise an interesting point regarding radical Humility, the most beautiful of virtues and the most difficult and painful to achieve, and it goes without saying that it takes a ton of Sanctifying Graces and many years to reach that level of sanctity. To die TO our fallen state of arrogance and love of spiritual mediocrity is no small job.
Humility presents the holy man or woman with a paradox......the more one "excells" the more one is constrained to reveal one's humility......the virtue of humility is unique among the virtues.....If one has become very prudent, it's not considered contradictory to reveal one's achievement, within limits.
But humility is unique....in that to speak about one's achievement contradicts the truth of the claim.
Yet, humility is from God, therefore to avoid taking credit or deny the truth, amounts to false modesty, which itself is a problem, and amounts to a rejection of God's precious gift.
However, many, many great and holy Catholic men and women through the ages, have written extensively about their arduous journey to the spiritual summit......and there is no way that their self-revelations can be construed as being anything but an authentic truth revelation about the PURE state of their souls. An outstanding one is the "Journey of a Soul" by the great St Therese de Lisieux.
As far as your concern regarding living saints becoming the object of "cultic" obsessions goes(whether priests, nuns or anointed lay men and women) unfortunately, that can sometimes happen, through no fault of those chosen holy ones, ....their lives and autobiographies(or biographies) are absolutely authentic, which is all they have control of.
As for your comment about my "pessimism", I think you misunderstood since I disclaimed any pessimistic insinuations.
One more point....regarding "free will", it is our crowning glory, and it is also a terrifying truth about our ontological natures, that we have the capacity by Sanctifying Grace, to rise to great spiritual heights, but we also have the counter inclination to follow Satan to the pit of hell. God bless.

      Boo,...….……..
It is not that easy to reach Union with God. Most people will not reach that sublime state on this earth. According to St John of the Cross less than half of spiritual persons will go through the first night of the senses but only a few of those will enter the very hard night of the spirit and reach Transforming Union.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"For God does not bring to contemplation all those who purposely
exercise themselves in the way of the spirit, nor even half. Why? He best knows" The Dark Night - Book One, Chapter 9
"For those who must afterward enter into the other more oppressive
night of the spirit in order to reach the divine union of love - because not
everyone but only a few usually reach this union - this night is ordinarily
accompanied by burdensome trials and sensory temptations that last a long time, and with some longer than with others"
The Dark Night - Book One, Chapter 14

Thanks for your insights Tom, which I think I’ll have to go over a few times because there’s much food for thought there.
Yes, what a paradox is humility! As soon as one thinks one has it they’ve probably lost it! But I must concede you are quite correct about saints explaining their spiritual experiences, in a very real sense it’s a matter of justice, acknowledging God and His working in them. I mean, in the spiritual life one can see where one has grown in some virtues and truthfully acknowledge it. But the humble soul will say ‘I know for certainty it wasn’t me but the work of grace ... ‘
Perhaps I was projecting using the word pessimism. I am finding it very difficult to deal with the discrepancy between what I am and what I should be, and looking at the state of the world and most individuals (wondering about people is in itself a can of worms) is not encouraging either ...
I guess with Free Will God has it perfectly figured out but I’d sure like a caveat to allow us to say ‘Here, take it, I freely give it to you now can you just keep it and take me out so I can’t sin anymore?!’

Archbishop Lefebvre was a great saint. He did everything he did for God and His Church. Nothing for himself. He never even wanted anyone to know what his food preferences were at table. When he was served, he would try not to show any partiality to any particular food. He sacrificed everything...for God.

This is great video! Im reading st.John of Cross again and Im amazed about how he was spiritual… He is saying sth similiar as fr.Ripperger says here.. But it would be great if fr.Ripperger made some videos about what devil/demons says in exorcism...Because we can learn very much what he hates or not.. Because, today he is very often convincing us with sth that looks good but isnt good.

It is hard to put into practice. How do we discern one’s own nature, disposition, calling/vocation if not by some combination of feeling as well as intellect? How do we discern and hear God’s voice guiding us? How does one know if a vocation seen conventionally fit for a Christian is truly right for them? I have been considering this question for years, with apparently little progress

Fr. Ripperger, I know it is a long shot to get an answer from you. I know an individual, who truly tries to live a good life, by ticking all the boxes. Very dutiful. Daily mass, daily rosary, divine mercy at 3pm etc. She fasts Wed and Fri, sunrise to midnight, just a little bit of bread and water. Problem is, when she is in this fasting mode, she becomes insufferable, easily irritable and angry, snapping at her loved ones. (She already has a confrontational, combative personality, in her normal mode.) Isn't this devotion, this effort, this sacrifice, giving an opposite effect, by alienating everyone around her? It feels like the actual sacrifice is being done by the ones around her, having to tolerate the bad attitude, complaints and remarks by having to keeping their cool. 🤣😅

‘Retarded’ in how Fr. Ripperger is using it means, “to delay, or hold back in terms of progress”. To use it in a sentence, “Our progress was retarded by unforeseen circumstances.”
Fr. Ripperger is NOT referring to those with developmental delays because of trisomy 21.
Words have many definitions. Look it up if you are confused.🙏
