The psychology behind the demonic | Fr. Vincent Lampert

  • Whether it be from inside or outside the Church, there is always great interest found in exorcism and the demonic. Is this problematic?
In the Drawing Flame's newest episode, Dr. Breuninger and Dr. Owens interview renowned exorcist Fr. Vincent Lampert from the Archdiocese of Indianapolis to answer this concern and more. In the podcast, they do not merely discuss exorcism, but more so seek guidance on how an exorcist's experience and perspective can help guide a Christian on the path toward Christ. Fr. Lampert explains that the way to steer from evil is not through some extraordinary way, but through ordinary means.
Through an authentic life of prayer and relationship with God and through the sacraments, we have nothing to fear. We think Satan has so much power in our world, but it is nothing compared to God and through simply living the virtuous life of a Christian.

I love the fact that as a Christian psychologist you recognize the possibility that some mentally ill patients may be suffering from various degrees of the demonic. I work in a clinic where faith in God is not ever considered part of the patient's therapy yet one that so many poor souls could benefit from.

Scary/frustrating story from me: I’m an ER nurse and once I was taking care of a young woman who was anxious about everything despite having a rather benign complaint and normal vital signs. However, we were still going to do a work up to make sure we weren’t missing anything glaring. Long story short, I had to really be patient while doing anything in her room and allow her a lot of time to process how we were going to care for her. After she calmed down and thanked us for our patience, I looked to see if she had ever seen anyone regarding her anxiety. It turns out that she had issues with this for many years and to my surprise, one nurse practitioner actually recommended that she address her spiritual needs by looking into REIKI or YOGA. 🤦‍♂️
I said a prayer to St. Michael as soon as I read that.

@@claytonhall989 ikr? They're so quick to recommend yoga, but never say anything about prayers. The rosary for example is great for anxiety, since it's repetitive and involves using fingers to feel a physical object and repeat simple motions. But I guess religion is offensive nowadays so they just go yoga for everyone.

Although my Grandmother was a Christian who truly believed in Christ she also practiced “Pow Wow “ which was prevalent in Pennsylvania. I had to break that generational curse off through Christ Jesus.
This was passed down from generation to generation. My Grandma refused to have me taught about it. I believed in God & Jesus since 3 years old. I can remember.

What percentage of people who call themselves Catholic frequent Confession? 5%?
Why do Catholic Influencers, many priests and bishops, continually tell us not to sin by judging the other 95% who either
    1. Do not think they ever sin or need to go to Confession or repent personally
    2. Just simply do not like Christ's Church or any demanding religion
    3. Or only care about Christ's Church enough to want to see it repent and change its ways away from Chrit's Way.
When are Catholic leaders going to admit that the vast majority of the world does not love them or the Bride of Christ, and never will? It's okay. Jesus told us this 2000 years ago. The world did not love him either. We need to just be faithful to our singular focus on Jesus and let those who are attracted to how that looks, join us. Otherwise, we will find ourselves falling off the cliff with the world.

The demonic or only inner panic in people who have little say whenever hearing very loud noises during both construction (or war)? Like for example those horses who got away to be charging here and there willy nillly in the city of London recently. Since memories of dramatic experiences are last to fade during life a lot can happen when it comes to panic attacks or instead the reaction to panic called rage during schemas learned to become automatic behavior response. Men who fought on front lines of wars sometimes ended up at first diving under the coffee table the first time hearing a vaccumm cleaner again at home running in another room. What about the main demonic spirit at work in the world today which is called obsession with weapons becoming bigger and 'better'?

One’s does not have the authority to “sell their soul” as it does not belong to them. It belongs to God and God alone. Therefore it is not theirs to sell. That would be like selling your neighbors car when your name is not on the title. It is not a legal transaction. However- while one does not have the authority to sell their soul to Satan or anyone else for that matter- they can however give up their FREE WILL to Satan. And one’s WILL once handed to Satan are no longer acting on their own accord- Their WILL has become that of Satan to carry out Satan’s will by one’s body, words, and actions. Their WILL is now Possessed by Satan or whichever Demon or Entity they gave their Free will to.

    • @boomct8569
      @boomct8569 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

No that’s not quite correct. Yes no one has authority to sell their soul as it’s God’s but the will is always free. All the exorcists I’ve ever read/ listened to say possession is the control of the body. Not the soul. Our wills are always free. Fr Chad Ripperger talks more in depth about this, he has said that there are some possessed he works with who are actually so holy because their will is in line with God even though their bodies have been possessed. But some people who are possessed though are happy to be so and can’t be helped, just as Jesus didn’t work many miracles among those who had no faith. But the will is always free (though our freedom might be diminished through psychological suffering and might be much weakened as sin makes our wills weaker and intellect darker etc). Satan does not inhabit the Will. It’s off limits. He can only suggest and manipulate other things to influence our choice to be what he wants but he can’t make that decision for us. As Fr John Hardon said ‘The Will has power over the will’ - meaning our will is ours. We always have a choice.

Instead of sell their soul, just think of it in terms of eternal destruction and/or damnation. If you think of it like that, than ya, they do. So be very careful what you teach and tell people.

The Holy Spirit *is as a fact* a white dove when we do get to see it. I'm not sure Dr. Owens does realize this fact. As there's two types of poetry, one in which metaphors are loose, and the other in which they aren't!!

Why does FR CHAD ACCEPT THAT NON CHRISTIANS can have graces outside the Mediation of Jesus Christ. He refers non Christians back to their rabbis/Imams.

I think you misunderstand the Catholic position on this. All grace comes through Christ. He's the source (mediator). That said, Christ does give grace to people who don't know about Him. Whether they consciously understand anything about Christ, they can receive grace. Old testament miracles prove this fact.
