    I think it's amazing you can teach real Biblical Hebrew this way, with words and pictures. What I learned in second grade. It's all correct. I know these phrases since childhood. I don't know what your students are doing with this knowledge, but knowledge to translate Biblical Hebrew makes the Bible clearer, as there are so many different translations.

    It is funny when I see a word I do not know, and no sooner than I think it, you are explaining it. Thank you. Notes to myself here, too. The learning process feels so much different than even six months ago. It has now been three full years I have been working on learning Hebrew. Truly no endpoint, but a lifelong process.

    Hello, for clarification:
    The unclean beast came in single pair, (one female one male)?
    Or two pairs (2 female and 2 male)? Thank you.

    How many ostriches were on the ark?
    Are all Anseriformes clean? If not, which species are unclean?
    Cranes are clean (they're mentioned elsewhere in the Bible, but not in the Foul Fowl List). Are rails, which are in the same order, clean or not? See πορφυριων in LXX.
    Are parrots clean? What about seriemas?

    • @adrianblake8876
      @adrianblake8876 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a non extensive list in Leviticus/Deuteronomy of unclean birds. There's a bible scholar that debates that עגור refers to a crane...
      Parrots aren't mentioned in the Bible, the word תוכי refers to a peacock (which is clean)
      What're seriemas!?
      How're rails mentioned, what hebrew word translates to it!?
      Edit: Anseriformes is the duck family which are definitely clean, I thought it refers to the egret family, which is definitely not...

    • @pierreabbat6157
      @pierreabbat6157 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adrianblake8876 Πορφυριων is the swamphen, which is a rail. It appears in Lev. 11:18 as a translation of תנשמת.
      The swan appears in many translations of the same verse. It is in Anseriformes (which is an order).
      Passeriformes: anything crowlike, such as shrikes and birds of paradise, is unclean, everything else, such as הציפור, is clean.
      Sibling taxon to Passeriformes is Psittaciformes. This is either clean or debatable; the ancient Israelites may have known about them.
      Sibling to those two is Falconiformes, which is entirely unclean.
      Sister to those three is Cariamiformes (pretend the C is Ç and say /s/), the seriemas. This is the first order going up the cladogram from crows that we are sure the ancient Israelites didn't know about, because all modern members are found only in South America, and the sister taxon is partly clean and partly unclean. So how do we decide if they are clean?

    • @adrianblake8876
      @adrianblake8876 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pierreabbat6157 Halacha says that an animal is clean under two conditions, it has identifying marks (סִמָּנִים simmanim), and it has a tradition. Since the Bible doesn't give marks for birds, we have to go exclusively by tradition, so if ancient isrealites didn't know about a bird, it's unclean.
      Also, the verse in Deuteronomy goes: אֶת־הַכּוֹס וְאֶת־הַיַּנְשׁוּף וְהַתִּנְשָׁמֶת
      They're all owls (little, tree and barn, respectively) no rail...

    14:47, Ooh, that's a trick question. I may have a different answer for that:
    [פרק ז' פסוק 24]
    וַיִּגְבְּרוּ הַמַּיִם עַל-הָאָרֶץ חֲמִשִּׁים וּמְאַת יוֹם.
    [פרק ח' פסוק 3,4]
    וַיָּשֻׁבוּ הַמַּיִם מֵעַל הָאָרֶץ הָלוֹךְ וָשׁוֹב וַיַּחְסְרוּ הַמַּיִם מִקְצֵה חֲמִשִּׁים וּמְאַת יוֹם.
    וַתָּנַח הַתֵּבָה בַּחֹדֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִי בְּשִׁבְעָה-עָשָׂר יוֹם לַחֹדֶשׁ עַל הָרֵי אֲרָרָט.

      there is a lot of repetition as well, in the telling of this story in the Bible, makes it hard to tell on a first reading the order of things

    • @adrianblake8876
      @adrianblake8876 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EECyrpys There's a debate that it's actually two stories condensed into one. I'm also not keen on the fact that idolitary was used as the image for רע when the bible gives a different explanation (the word חמס, social injustice)...
      Also, another explanation for the flood alludes to greek mythos: if Zeus lies around with all those women, should they really be blamed for idolitary!?
