    Seriously my friend!
    One of the most explanatory videos I've seen.
    In 7 minutes I saw a lot that will help me in the future.
    Thanks.

      I’m glad you got some knowledge out of it. It’s just a simple method to make some cheap spirits. I really enjoy it. Other people may disagree but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Cheers.

    Champion 👍🏻explained it so simply. You should def do some more stilling vids.
    How do you oak yours ? I'm only just starting out made a few gins with a Weetbix wash. Hoping to do a bourbon using this method

      @@Jimsmith656 I don’t oak mine, I just make it then drink it white. I’m not very fussy really 🤣

    Love the grocery store shine videos. I’ve seen guys use rye bread and other ingredients. Idk how the product is but just like the old days. Use what you can get. Cheers

      Some people might not like it, but it sure beats Turbo Yeast kits and a T500 still. Just my way of doing things, not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea. Cheers.

    Great video, would like to ask how did you make the "head" of the still, is it part of the spear from the keg with some welded stainless cup? Thanks

      @IanDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey mate, sorry it’s taken a while to get back to you… yes, it’s the threaded top of the spear, with a stainless steel cup (from KMart I think) that I brazed to the top of it. Then a 45 degree copper elbow brazed into the top of the cup. Hope that helps.

    No heads/hearts/tails cuts? It may have not made the video cut, but it's extremely rare that I've found anything palatable on 1x distillation. Your mileage may vary...

      I throw away the first 250ml or so of the heads. Then just collect about 5L of spirits. I’m aware that a much nicer product can be made with better cuts but I guess I’m not that fussy. Single distillation is fine for me, it definitely improves after ageing for a while.

    Great stuff. These fawkers worrying about methanol, mostly produced by yeast on grape-skin, I cry when I see you tossing 250ml. I use T500 system/turbo yeast, waste the first 50ml only cheers aa

      @IanDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe I’m being a bit wasteful with the first 250ml. Better safe than sorry. I find it makes the rest of the batch better without it. But it might just be in my head. Cheers.

    Does it taste like bourbon whiskey?

    1x 500g bag of cornflakes for a 20 litre batch? Surely that’s not enough. I’ve just made a similar batch with 4kg cornflakes, 1.5kg wheat biscuits and 750g rye bread. 1 packet alpha amylase and 1 packet glucoamylase for a 20l batch. What in this is breaking down the starch into fermentable sugars? I suppose your getting excess sugar from the granular sugar you’ve added but I doubt your really getting anything from the cornflakes. But hay ho, If it worked for you and tastes good I’m glad to hear it and may give it a go in the future for a simpler run than the one I’ve just done.

      I’m a simple kind of guy, hence the simple recipe. I believe I can taste a corn sweetness in the end product….. but maybe it’s all in my head. I also enjoy the taste after a single distillation which others have said is not “possible”. I’m no expert on the matter, it’s just what I do. I’m sure I could use more cornflakes for extra flavour, I might try it in the future. Cheers.

      Shaking my head at your not knowing real-life facts/knowledge. You know you're consuming trace amounts of methanol in beer & wine, ya? ALL fermentation makes trace amounts of methanol. Stop living in "1920's bath-tub gin" fear-based knowledge base.

      That 250ml that he discarded at the start of the run would of been heaps to get rid of the methanol and the first bit of heads.

    • @danielanthony1054
      @danielanthony1054 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A. methanol shows up throughout the whole run not only the heads
      B. if you magically had all of it in the heads and then threw everything back together (heads+hearts+tails) it would be dilluted down
