- The pilot reel for Amphibia, originally titled Amphibiland, has surfaced online and given us a look at a different kind of animated series, and we couldn't help but to break it all down as much as possible! What made it into the final series? What are the prototypes for Sprig, Polly, Hop Pop, Grime, Sasha and Marcy like? Could any currently unused plot elements survived into the main series?

I feel like their fight in true colours kinda sucked and was to short, like I feel like the one in the pilot. Especially the fact that grime didn’t put up enough of a fight, like one of the most powerful, threatening toads out there using a god hammer just instantly lost a fight to some kid with a slingshot. I’m not saying sprig shouldn’t have won, he should have, it’s just that the battle between one of the main characters and the main antagonist in season 1, could have been a cooler fight.

I'm so glad we got Sprig instead, idk why but he just seems more fun and interesting to watch than the og pilot one.

@@josephmaster1427 because the vibes of the characters are just different. the pilot one was pretty boring and the design doesn't look very dynamic. our current sprig looks pretty fun and his design fits his personality. tell me you see a fun, goofy, frog when you look at weed.

I still think Sprig's pilot version looks like what his dad could've looked like unless were actually gonna meet his parents someday later down the road.

It's funny how Anne wrote in a journal in the pilot and then in one episode of the actual show, Marcy asks Anne if she has been keeping a journal about her adventures in Amphibia so far.

The adventure time pilot looks cool
It took me way too long to realize this: Anne= loyalty->ends up w/ frogs; Sasha= bravery-> ends up with toads; Marcy=intellegence-> ends up with newts. They all ended up in the place that matched their personality the best. Like could you imagine sasha with the frogs or Anne with the newts 😂😂
No Anne has Heart which includes Bravery, Sasha has strength and rage, and you were right about Marcy
That is an excellent fan fic idea actually-
Sasha would have taken over Wartwood and become a dictator
Anne would have probably been a warrior like Marcy but her relationship with the newts would be more similar to her relationship with the plantars
Marcy would probably be released by the toads and used for her intelligence, used as the planner. Not as high up as Sasha but still somewhat comfortable
I REALLLLLLY hope that “cult” comes into consideration in the original series

the pilot reminds me of Over the Garden wall with its mood and atmosphere, Grime is also ALOT more intimidating in this imo
5:25 The parts of the pilot that Braly liked (the “grimy and mystical” feeling) are the parts that I personally am glad were changed. The main hook of Amphibia that got me into it was the idea of a fantasy world with minimal magic. Normally I’m in support of the artist when it comes to corporate changes to their projects, but (with no offense to Braly and his vision intended), on a personal level, I’m glad this got changed before the final release, or I probably would have skipped out on this show.
At the end of the day, it was probably for the best that the mystical elements were saved for the 2nd season onward. I think the true purpose of season 1 was getting to know Wartwood and it's citizens. It's like taking the time for outsiders (Anne and the viewers) becoming more comfortable in a small town where everyone knows everyone else.
Theory: That Robot Frog that is following the planters, might be the beast they can tame later on in the Series. And maybe the Robo Frog might have the Ability to fly.

The pilot didn’t look like a Disney show, it had an extremely lore heavy feel to it, it would be great to see a show like that happen but there’s just not a place for it to go on TV, maybe adult swim but it doesn’t feel like a good fit there either

In a Q&A with Matt braly and the vocies of Sasha, Polly, Hop Pop, and General Yunan, we learned from that Bill Farmer voiced both Hop Pop and Grime in the Amphibiland Pilot, he wasn't even called Grime back then, The Plantars and Anne lived in the middle of nowhere and it would take a few days to Wartwood, and the original tone was darkier and grittier.
I would love to have a future episode where we’d meet Weed as a cousin of the Plantars

I prefer the look and characterizations of Amphibia, but I also love the more secluded, mystical, adventurous feel of Amphibiland, and I hope we get more of that in the show. That side really shines through in a few episodes, one of which is Wally And Anne.
I think we will throughout the 2nd Half of Season 2.
I love the seeing the change in animation, this and the owl house have amazing animation.
Animation is great. It lets you tell any kind of story you want without breaking immersion. You couldn’t do a premise like this in live-action
Hey wanted to mention this at the end of season one the toad guards eyes where the same color as one of the gems right? Well Sasha’s main thing is manipulating other people, well I think Sasha powers might have something to with the roads eyes just saying.

Like someone else mentioned below -- where are Sprig and Polly's parents? Have they disappeared? Died? What prompted HopPop to step in as a surrogate parent? We've gotten a ton of clues and foreshadowing about numerous characters in the series, but the parents have never even been hinted at once.

What I like about this Pilot is the Swamp, and the characters before, I mean I get why they change them but it'd be a cool concept of a new cartoon, I'm also interested on Weed/Sprig, I wonder if they can pull off an easter egg to Sprig and Polly's parents where their father wears a scarf that Weed/Sprig has as a reference or an ancestor

Ha when i saw pilot designs of marcy and sasha I immediately noticed the colors.
I think the reason Sasha and Marcy look the way they do in the pilot is due to the fact that they have a minor appearence in it(in a picture for like 2 seconds), and got their design fleshed out in the series, where they‘d become more prominent characters.

First time on this channel, and I really can't unhear that this dude sounds like Vailskibum's cousin.
I think that a episode will come inspired by what we have seen from 6:26, Sprig get's ambushed and abducted and has to fight with Grime for his freedom, Anne will follow and rescue him. Why he gets kidnapped is because of who he is as we can link that to recent episodes where we have seen that Grime wants to take over and rule Amphibia and king Andrias being very keen on Sprig. The painting in the castle shows the only other pink frog in the series, probably Sprig's mom. And as her son, he could known about or has information, or at least that is what they think, about the music box. And they want that box to keep or gain power. So Grime kidnappes Sprig for revenge or to get information and fights probably after finding out that Sprig doesn't know anything about it and is useless for him. Sprig's mom probably was good and tried to hide or destroy that box so Andrias and Grime couldn't do any wrong with it. It probably even cost her life and then they found out that her son is still alive.
7:18 I think this scene is gonna happen in the show if you look at the ruins they look hella similar to the one in the opening
My theory: so sprig and anne make it to the ruins by this point she probably know about the king and what hop did to the box however
Grime and sasha are there to so while anne and sasha duke it out sprig pick up a a dagger that possibly sasha dropped and takes on grime
I have an idea why the toads eyes were glowing pink referring to as you said, Sasha with the toads, and that small detail gives a hint that Sasha was gonna be with the toads.
I think there's a good chance we'll get a Sprig v Grime fight at some point, considering that Sasha has her rivalry with Anne and will want a rematch, likely alone. Grime likely has to fight someone while Anne and Sasha are going at it 1v1, and perhaps it''ll be Sprig.
Been subbed ever since before the Summer of Steven. Can't wait to see you guys hit 1M.

The glowing eyes on the toads are the color of Sasha's stone and I think that might be it's power, making people do stuff for her like hypnotization but eh doesn't sound likely in the slightest.

Pilots will always be better than their finished versions because they make you think about how much the show has changed, and they make you question what the show would've been like if it stayed like it's pilot version.
I like watching pilots and seeing what changed for it to become the show we know and love

I think pink = manipulation since Sasha knows how to do that you know how to control people or things that's why the things that are being controlled eyes are pink and also the toads are very strongly have a lot of warriors they have influence forcibly just how manipulation works nobody has consent in getting manipulated TvT
I think the green = intelligence since Mercy is with the newts as they're known for their intelligence and she was the smart one of the group
I'm thinking blue = bravery or loyalty since main characters heating into all these troubles and then that one episode where they asked her to collect everything from everyone she stood by the whole village instead of being popular and being wanted so I'm not sure

HMMM they probably changed the name to amphibia due to amphibilands already exist because of an army frogs novel
I prefer the cooler color palette that Wartwood eventually got. The various shades of green and blue make it seem a lot more relaxed than the yellows that we see here. I'm also glad that they changed the voice actor for Sprig/Weed.
