    Very nice!I have a very similar old plane that I need to restore and your video is an excellent guide. I'm a little sad though. When I finished watching this video I have watched all of your videos... Maybe time for reruns while I wait for your next piece of art.

    Nicely done but you used the wrong liquid. A low viscosity spirit like ethanol (either lab grade grain alcohol or denatured alcohol) is usually used because its low viscosity makes the bubble easier to read. Isopropyl alcohol isn't an alcohol or a spirit and even at 99% is not that different than water (except it won't go off like water).

      Interesting! I’ll know for next time. Although I use it fairly often and it feels no different than regular liquid levels

      That's why they call it a "whiskey stick"!

      Would off the shelf denatured alcohol from Home Depot work? Also, Eloise, how is the isopropyl alcohol holding up after the years?

    Amazing work! You have a new subscriber. I have a few old levels. Two of which are also Disstons.

    Nice work. Im currently working on a Disston & Morss (pre 1879) level. Did you do the engraving on your Bailey plane? Looks awesome.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pre 1879? Lovley! Yes I did (theres a video of it on here) it was my first time attempting to engrave metal. I'm actually working on a second one for a customer, I've improved a lot and I'm excited to see the final product! It will be on my instagram in a month or so if you are interested.

    Any asbestos in that putty?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no clue. I don't know what it was. Felt like plaster but stronger?

    • @jodyburton0351
      @jodyburton0351 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ What I've read is they used plaster of Paris for the express purpose demonstrated here which was to be able to re-set the vials if they got out of level or needed replaced due to breakage. The epoxy you used will make the next restoration more difficult in comparison. Otherwise, I liked the results and another quality tool saved from the landfill.
