What an amazing survey and insight. I couldn't get into the Communication Arts/Photojournalism programme at Concordia Univ in the seventies. I marched over to Webster's Library fine art section and pulled as many photography monographs (I subsequently bought Walker Evan's 'The Hungry Eye,' and 'Sieff, 40 Years of Photography') onto the reading table as allowed and spent hours pouring over images. After reading Sontag 'On Photography,' Whelan's tome on Stieglitz, and biography of Robert Capa, Nancy and Beaumont Newhall's names kept popping up all over the place. So intriguing, even mysterious. Lovely to see it all summarized and condensed here. Terrific reference. Thank you!

Wonderful finish with Zen in the Art of Archery - Such a good book for thought. All the books presented are important. Thank you for the video!

The book by Eugene Herrigel "Zen in the Art of Archery" was a book, I was told to read by my former tutor and photojournalist Roger Hutchings at UAL, London. A very informative book, and the application of which improved my photography. Particularly when shooting events, like demonstrations. Strangely enough, a demonstration in London was where I met the late photographer Stanley Greene, in 2015. Needless to say our meeting was equally instrumental in influencing my photography. I have a photograph of him during one demonstration outside Whitehall, London. An incredible photographer sadly missed.

Janet and David (Scheinbaum & Russek) to me are two of the top in the photography industry. They are knowledgeable, dedicated and most friendly. I have great respect for their experience and recommendations. Also, they are both excellent photographers and have created some of the most powerful portfolios. We are lucky to have them.

I think it was David Vestal who said regarding HCB’s Decisive Moment that sometimes the pictures looked like they were taken a little before or a little after the decisive moment. I always enjoyed David’s candor and humor.

Enjoyed the video. I somehow lost/gave away my copy of Daybooks long ago...and, maybe surprisingly, it has been out of print for many years. Would be great if they came out with a new edition...

Great orientation to photography books - difficult to reduce it to ten. What would you choose from current photographers ?
