I’ve been watching your channel for a few weeks now and I’m just blown away by your passion for photography. I first heard of you from a Thomas Heaton video and he mentioned your channel and more importantly your misfortune of being struck by illness. All I can do is wish you well and hope you recover soon so you may continue your love of photography.

'Here for the ride' is such a solid find. Appreciate that companion book that breaks down his process (that taboo thing most photographers don't share). And 'good god damn' is on the long list as well. Great selection Matt.

Love Waker Evans! Saw his show at the Pompidou in Paris last spring and bought a handful of postcard prints. So good.

Super good to see Trent Parke's Minutes to Midnight on your shelf. He's from Newcastle, NSW but lives in my home town, little ol' Adelaide, South Australia. Minutes to Midnight is great, as is Black Rose, which is kinda autobiographical and intense. I love looking at awesome photo books from you know, New York, Hong Kong, Chillicothe and that, but it's soo awesome to see such great photography from home too.

Elliot Erwitt's Dogs will be the raddest birthday present for my dog-crazy girlfriend ever. Last year I got her an MJU:I point-and-shoot and she really enjoys shooting film, does it all the time. Have become quite proud of her work since then.
    Thank you Matt!

Great video. I always love seeing other people's book collections. Davidson's SUBWAY is one of my favourites. My personal top five would include
    Larry Towell - MENNONITES
    Alex Majoli - LEROS
Watabe Yukichi - A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION
    Joseph Koudelka - EXILES
Daido Moriyama - TALES OF TONO
Re: the Walter Potter book. Potter's collection of taxidermy was kept on display for a long time at Jamaica Inn in Cornwall (and before that at a neaby cottage). My parents took me on a holiday to Cornwall during the 1980s and I remember looking at the weird dioramas and two-headed sheep, etc, before reading the visitors' comments book where somebody had written simply 'Mr Potter was a very sick man'.
The collection has since been broken up and sold around the world, I believe.

so funny how you share your thoughts about the Magnum contact sheets with that look on your face. I'm with you on that.

hey, I totally feel the process. And I think Matt does as well. It's just about the book. A lot of people say that you have to own it and that it's the most important one to have in your collection. That was the reason I had to laugh because Matt said that he thinks that a book is a little overhyped.
So all good. I love looking at the book and contact sheets in general. I just think that there are more very great books. And it's always a matter of taste.
      Cheers :)

I know you've done some in the past, but a zine episode, with a more detailed look into them, going into what you like about them would be amazing.

Glad to see some young photogs appreciate Elliot Erwitt, especially dogs. I kick myself for selling a 1st press copy of his Women book about ten years back. Hey have a new edition, but seems it's a little more PC version of book. Take care, and whenever in doubt, let a stop out

Next time you do a video about your photobooks, considering sharing WHY you like them. Sharing the WHY is much more meaningful than just saying you like them.
