@@thewhatevermatt3498 As far as I'm concerned, in Europe at least, you don't get paid for implementing policies of or even meeting with lobbyists. They support party's and their representatives, by giving them donations, but they're much less dependent on those I think, in difference to politicians in the US.
Sure, we got politicians that sometimes go into the industry they worked on laws with, but that's also often immediately criticized, but still a problem.
In general, I would say it's less of a problem here, but still needs to be somewhat addressed.

In Capitalism, Government policy and businesses are highly dependent on "CONSUMER SPENDING." If people don't spend, companies will fail, and the capitalist structure will fall apart. Therefore, the capitalists and their government will do anything to boost the people's spending. Although they may spend a lot on marketing to persuade people to buy, businesses and the government do not have the power to force people to buy stuff. That day will come.

Consumerism is cancerous. How can idiots still think any form of market capitalism could be sustainable on a planet with finite resources? I think defenders of capitalism either are just straight up ignorant to the unsustainable structure of a market system predicated on profit maximization and infinite growth on a planet with finite resources OR they are selfish and want to keep a selfish system in place and are trying to come up with morally justified reasons to keep it.
Money may have served a purpose in the past, but now it is predictable enslavement via labor for income for survival.
Money should become obsolete because what we need isn't money, we need resources and the efficient management of them. With today's technology that is more than possible to do to ensure everyone's basic needs are met. Localize production, network sharing of skills, resources and feedback and automate as much as possible - basic needs would become so abundant that money wouldn't be needed for those basic needs and forced labor roles wouldn't either. Common interest would be people help out because they know it is helping maintain a strong community and many people can be motivated by that, especially if they only have to put in a few hours of traditional 'work' to gain a high quality of life with plentiful free time to spend on other pursuits and with family or friends.

Rid Russia of illiteracy, gave women the vote, removed homelessness, poverty and crime plummeted, and the list goes on.
In China it did a similar thing, rid China of the warlords and improved the living standards of the population.
If both or either remained capitalist there would be on par with modern day India.
Since returning to capitalism Russian living standards have plummeted and in China the wealth has been moved into the hands of billionaires at the expense of the population.

What's interesting is I'm reading a lot of comments and I don't see any rejection to the premise: Capitalism is killing us. I think that's because there IS not logical argument against it. Capitalism, by structure, is unsustainable, it cannot work for everybody, or even most people and people who defend capitalism probably know that. They are just defending a system that allows for selfishness and they probably want that to continue. They can't find logic and reason to back them up, unfortunately.
That's one of the good things about a video like this. Factual, informative and anybody would be open to disagree, but there really isn't any argument against the facts, except from a point of ignorance or selfishness.

We know that certain markets with a certain amount of freedoms are important to allow faster development of technology and individual interests.
But we also know that the market as totalitarian as we have now and as capitalism wants is bad.
And you can't regulate and have capitalism at the same time, it is an absolute system like fascism. You can not have a fascist democracy and you can not have regulated capitalism. Among other things, this is lead to our system of government being controlled by wealthy (capitalist) interests. Not sure what it is about wealth but it seems that people with it, cannot get enough of it. The capitalist economy is based on competition. A socialist economy, on the other hand, is based in cooperation. They don't even tell most people the MOST IMPORTANT thing they really need to know: The big economic system we live in, we were born into, that system is garbage and it is unsustainable and that's why climate change is a problem, not some 'big evil corporations over here'. Nope, the entire system must end and something better and actually sustainable must replace it. That's more important daily news instead of wars. Socialism does sound nice in the sense that there will be more regulation and equitable pay but I think the same can be done in the capitalist system by imposing tighter regulations that ensure sustainable environmental practices, encouraging unionization so that workers have more power over their work environment, and mandating wage increases along with inflation.
Capitalism is run by self-interest, you own your labour, property, and any rights of yours. If we can shield the environment, wages, and working conditions from self-interest, I think that will be good.

As a young person, it’s really hard to live with the fact that if we don’t radically change the way our societies function we will have a future full of hardships... I am afraid that by the time I acquire the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful change, it will be too late. But it is reassuring to see that there are people out there who care and appeal for a revolution. Thank you for your work and thank you for making these topics accessible and digestible.

It seems you yourself have fallen for the propaganda of capitalists that want you to believe all of this is "fake news", so you will continue supporting the status quo. Let me tell you, they have everything to win if you believe in their propaganda, and if you aren't a part of the 1%, you and your children have everything to lose in the next years, because the environment is being destroyed and exploited so severely that it won't be able to sustain us anymore in the near future.

    • @coolioso808
      @coolioso808 2 ปีที่แล้ว

By you speaking out, you engaging in conversation in anyway that you can - you are increasing the chances of meaningful change happening in time. You already have a significant amount of knowledge that you've recognized the flaw in the current system and how it is incompatible with a sustainable and healthy future so it must change. That is knowledge that nobody can take away from you and you can seek out more knowledge and truth, like solutions to the problem, alternative systems that could work like a Natural Law Resource Based Economy.
And if the chance ever came up to build a movement of young people, I've often thought that it could be THE motivating force that gets society going in the right place. Imagine an entire student body of a high school or several high schools decide to skip class and stay out of school until the root problem of society is addressed. THAT would be so powerful. That would show a REAL education has taken place. Young people of the world refusing to follow in the machine until the toxic machine is taken down and replaced with something that works.
Most activism ultimately fails because it really isn't getting at the root of the problem. The many youth-powered climate change movements and protests seem to stop short of the ROOT issue which is the monetary-market capitalist system. For a sustainable future we cannot want or wish for profit or money to be a controlling force. We should want abundance of basic needs, locally, because it is technically possible and becomes so efficient that free basic needs is the most logical thing to do for public health and sustainability.
Wish you all the luck in the world, I'm going to do what I can, you do what you can and we'll hopefully see down the road we were part of the movement that saved the human species from dystopia.

Wait second! This is socialist talk.
We don’t like to associate ourselves with socialism because we’ve been taught that socialism is bad for generations. Without worker’s exploitation how am I supposed to make my billions? Answer that? I mean… employees can live decent lives off tips? No? Well, can’t they get by by working two jobs? People are so lazy, I’ve been trying to find somebody to work for me at my understaffed, underpaid company to attend to responsibilities that should be shared by four different individuals for $14,99 per hour but nobody wants it. If we introduce socialism to our communities these people will steal all my billions and I can’t have that. So please stop trying to fill the minds off people with your silly ideas. It’s all nonsense. Kids, turn off this video, there’s nothing to see here. Send me a message if you’re interested about the job position I mentioned… no benefits included of course.

We’ve faced a similar problem in the past.
We managed to ban CFCs and buy time for the ozone layer.
We’ve placed strict limits on air pollutants under the clean air act, forcing coal burning plants and automobiles to use filter tech.
Adding CO2 to the list while it will be a major industry game changer wouldn’t force us to give up capitalism. Capitalism would just adapt to a world in which CO2 emissions are strictly controlled and priced.
