    I’m a workout junkie and I’ve competed against men in martial arts and obstacle racing. Anyone who says women are as strong as men has never wrestled a man or challenged a man to a pull-up competition. Why can’t these people just let us women be the best we can be and respect us for it?

      Because they were trained to believe that a woman can and should achieve all the most desirable traits that men have to claim us useless. To think differently is misogynistic...
      I grew just annoyed at hearing the amount of women thinking they could take on a man with a foot of height and 150lbs of muscle on them because they know no men will test them on that fact, or think they need no men when 90% of the infrastructure in western civilisations are taken care of by men.
      The sad thing is is that such mentality only cares about women when they are validating their point... they treat people like knotches in a belt and don't care about the person themselves.

    • @Debbie338
      @Debbie338 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @inovade I thought I was pretty clear. Once we go through puberty, the male body has 30% more maximum capacity upper body strength, 20% more maximum capacity lower body strength, and about 20% more maximum oxygen-carrying capacity. The top 10% of elite female athletes will never be competitive against the top 10% of elite male athletes. This means that a woman will never podium at the professional or Olympic level against men. (Ultra-Marathon runners may eventually find that’s not true in that one sport, due to women carrying more fat reserves for ultra-endurance, but that’s about it.)
      I can beat about 50% of the men in my (completely amateur) class in obstacle racing. Does it make me less worthy of respect as a person because I’ll never beat the top 50% of men? Why do so many people equate physicality with superiority and think women aren’t worthy of respect as people because we aren’t as strong or as fast?
      So, I think we agree, but it was difficult to tell from your original statement.

      I think people take idea that sexual dimorphism isn't perfectly binary (that is - there is middle ground between sexes) and go to wrong conjectures from there.
      A lot of people are bad with small percentages. There is small overlap between sexes (on every level, even anatomically) and a lot of people want to eighter completely ignore it or to think that there is no difference between sexes. It is hard to fathom for them that although in 99/100 cases you can think traditionally about sexual dimorphism, not in all cases traditional view holds. And those 1/100 - those exeptions are not exeptions - they are overlap between normal distributions - thus they are normal too, they are not freaks.

      I feel like a lot of these idpol types refuse to be more precise than "human" when evaluating personal value. Do men have more value than women, on average, as people, because of their size and strength? No. Do they have more value as soldiers or fire fighters for the same traits? Absolutely, yes. Do women have more value as people for being more empathetic than men? No. Do they have more value as councilors or social workers for the same trait? Yes, of course they do. Yet, observing these objective truths is sexist. I think refusing to recognize what people are good at is sexist.

    The only reason these people think being “less physically strong” is degrading is because they put value in physical strength and less value in other characteristics. This wouldn’t be as much of an issue if people realized that two people of different physical strength still have the same worth and the same inherent dignity.

The hormones produced in women during pregnancy cause adaptations in the body that effectively increase a women's pain threshold as she goes into labour. Built in painkillers.

She went to the gym several times a week, was taller than me, and had more body mass than I did. One day at work, she was struggling to carry a box and called me over telling me to carry it. I hadn't even touched any weights in over 4 years at the time, let her know this fact, and asked her why I should be the one to carry it. She said "because you're a guy." I shrugged my shoulders, gave it a lift, and picked it up with the greatest of ease. It was at that point that I realized just how much more work the average woman needs to put in to match the physical capabilities of the average male, even when that average male isn't in good shape.

      I agree, Raff. It's good that some few like yourself at least take the trouble to dig into the facts, and I'm happy for you that you seem to enjoy such a broad array of subjects. (That's a teacher speaking to a teacher. XD )
      As to the video's topic: A short while ago, I watched a documentary on historical gender roles. Scientists examining human skeletons in Europe found that during the period of hunting and gathering male and female skeletons were quite similar in size with the slight differences towards the men being bigger you get today. When humans started settling, the average size of women obviously decreased dramatically. The archaeological interpretation goes that in a hunting/gathering society roles weren't as clearly defined, both sexes took part in all forms of acquiring food and all ate the same. With settlements, the greater physical strength in men became more important, because the act of defending one's possessions became dramatically more important. It is quite likely, that this became the basis of a patriarchal society in which men had access to better food (for example meat) which kept their sizes equal but diminished those of women. At the beginning of the Bronze Age in Europe, genetical analysis of skeletons has shown that men stayed at their birthplaces (probably inheriting the farm etc.) while women left to far away places (most likely traded for marriage or sent away at a young age and severed contact to their families for a lifetime). I guess this shows, that culture can, to a certain extent, have an impact on how accentuated the difference between sexes is.
      It also shows that people fighting for gender equality do have a point. But they're missing it, if they are wishing for men and women to be physically equal. It has to be a matter of equal rights, to make sure that everyone is treated the same legally, in terms of payment or how much importance is attributed to them etc. And as to genetic differences that we cannot change, if we use them to benefit one another there is no need to be angry about them.

      @@MohamedRamadan-qi4hl As I said, it's what the archaeologists in the documentary suspected. Hard to say what it really was like some 10,000 years ago. Anyway, they were not stating that there were *no* differences. (From here on it's my own speculation.) Women would naturally have been sure to have more to do with birthing and raising infants. On the other hand, with some females of a tribe - tied through small infants - in charge of a communal nursery, it doesn't seem farfetched that others may have assisted in hunting, where greater numbers contribute to greater success. Women can certainly reach the necessary endurance to herd and goad animals to suitable killing grounds. Though, I guess finally confronting and killing prey like an aurochs would have fallen to the males (and given them a chance to demonstrate their physical strength to accompanying females). On the other hand, I can't see a male hunter just passing by a bush of ripe berries and ignoring them, mumbling to himself, that he is a hunter and will skip the opportunity of gathering valuable nourishment. But yes, this is speculation. Still, the skill sets for both sexes that were necessary for survival may have been considerably more similar and single sexual traits not overly important than in later times after settling, and thus the situation less open to creating an imbalance of power between the sexes. You could come up with other explanations for why women later were obviously malnourished and expected to endure a harder social lot, but I seriously doubt it was of their own choosing, so some sort of equality was lost.

      My sister is the same. Whenever I ask one of my boys to carry something or open something for me she has a fit. Having reared a bunch of kids my own plus fostered little boys are physically stronger than girls from the start. They go through a male puberty in the womb that's why you have to be so careful with certain drugs etc in puberty. They also have one around 10-11 when they go a bit nuts. These are the things no one tell parents but they really should. People think they need to tell boys to just suck it up etc when it's their hormones etc that are adjusting.

    This reminds me of when I was a newcomer to karate in my mid teens. I was almost at my current height 6'5", and about 200 pounds. I wasn't very skilled, and on our sparring day an experienced and older (early 20s) female showed up to practice. She was very quick, with fast, dynamic and flexible kicks. She was very aggressive and talked openly about how she "enjoyed beating the men" who all seemed to go easy on her. Our sparring was meant to be light and controlled, so I was surprised by her intensity when she nearly broke my nose with a hard kick. As I was wiping away the blood, she didn't apologize, only smirked at her handi work. When we resumed sparring, she went for the same kick again, only this time I caught her clean with a cross that put her on her ass nearly unconscious. When she got her wits back she whined about my control. The way I seen it, I did her a favor by giving her a reality check. Thanks for the great video rooted in reason and backed by science. I'm sure there are plenty of lunatic sjws lined up foaming at the mouth to scream nonsense at you.

    As a woman who studied martial intensely for decades, allow me to tell anyone who will listen: men are stronger than women. This is true from elementary school through to adulthood. When I was in kindergarten studying taekwondo, boys could already do more pull ups, more pushups, run faster and jump higher. This is not debatable or rare. Even men who are physically smaller or out of shape can be stronger and beat up or take hits from women who are in great shape by virtue of them just having naturally stronger musculoskeletal structure. I have witnessed and experienced this many times in my training. The only time mentioning this fact is bad is if it followed by denial of opportunity for women. If I had been told I couldn't study boxing or martial arts BECAUSE I am a woman and women are weaker that would be bad, but acknowledging this fact is important for women to properly train and be safe while doing so.

      "Denial of opportunity" is a good thing in a lot of areas. If you aren't capable of doing a job, you should be denied the opportunity of doing it. If you've ever seen a female firefighter try to break down a door or a female police officer try to apprehend a suspect you'd know this instantly.
      And it's hilarious that dying horrifically at war is presented as a privilege and being protected from it is presented as oppression.

      I would argue there are some fields where it absolutely should be barring participation - and that is some fields of combat and firefighting, and policing. Firefighters here often work in teams of two. Now, what happens if the 200 lbs athletic male plus gear gets trapped and needs help, or the frail grandmother needs to be safely carried down the stairs? What about forcefully opening doors.
      If a woman can prove she can keep up with the men, sure, why not. But lowering the standards to enable women to participate? Absolutely not. People trapped in a burning room don't care how good you are relatively to your sex-based limits, they care whether you get the damn door open or not.
      As for policing ... I don't know, putting a woman on patrol feels like giving yourself as the police an automatic handicap. Women absolutely have their place in policework, but patrolling the streets, alone in a car? Dunno. Seen enough videos where male BYSTANDERS have to help the female cop subdue the bad guy. To be fair, I've seen a lot of out of shape male cops, too.

      On a pragmatic level, and often overlooked, besides the wisdom of...at least in the old days before guns, etc, putting a "weaker" combatant into the fray with a sword/spear, etc and hope for the best. A culture that sent it's women to war en mass, would quickly find themselves facing extinction on a long enough timeline. Take a village of 50 men and 50 women for example. Excluding the too old/too young.. you send 35 men off to war against the rival tribe...... all but 5 are killed. Now that culture is left with 5 men and say 35 sexually viable women (numbers are totally arbitrary but just for this exercise). Let's do the reverse now.... they send the 35 women off to war and all but 5 come (presumably less if they attempted to take on an all male army). You see the problem? In some ways, the male is more 'disposable" than the female of our species. You tend to see this in other areas too such as IQ levels where there tends to be a greater abundance of men at the extremities than women.
      I forget which women said it, but the best quote I've heard on the topic is "Men and Women ARE different. What needs to be made equal is the value we place on those differences."

      @@metatronyt hey Raff, you may wanna read my comment; I address something you seem to've *missed* in it.
      Actually, nevermind; I can just repost it for you here: Nice that you addressed this with *objective science* Raff; SJWs are just all about history *revisionism* , and science *denialism* ; you could show them *absolute proof* that the Earth's a *sphere* , a fact that people quite *literally* understood *over a thousand years* ago, and they'd *stubbornly insist* that it was actually *flat* ; that's why science denialists like SJWs are often called "Flat Earthers" after all.
      There *is* however, one thing I'd like to address that you seem to've forgotten, and that's *gravity centers* ; men like myself tend to be stronger than women in the *upper* bodies because the upper body's *our* gravity center, and so we *have* to be stronger there to keep a proper balance; the fact that we men tend to have broader *shoulders* than women should be *proof* of that.
      Conversely, women tend to have broader *hips* than us men, and that's because the *lower* body's a *woman's* gravity center; *that* means that, to keep a proper balance, out of biological *necessity* , women are actually *stronger* than us men in their *lower* bodies. That means that if you were to compare a male and female fighter of the same general strength level, while the man *would* in fact be able to throw the harder *punches* and other *arm* attacks, the *woman* would be able to throw the harder *kicks* and other *leg* attacks ( *yes* , there's a *biological* basis for women's unarmed fighting styles being more *kick-centric* than men's in media). To put it a more *metaphorical* way, where men are *axes* and *bludgeons* , women are *swords* . And that's actually what I believe to be the *reason* melee weapons act as an equalizer; because even though they're held in the *hands* , the *power* in a melee weapon swing or thrust *actually* comes from the *core* muscle, *two* groups of which, the upper *leg* muscles and the *hip* muscles, are in the *lower* body, where the *woman* is the stronger sex, while the *ab* muscles are the *only core* muscle group that's in the *upper* body, where the *man* is the stronger sex.
      Lastly, there's a *different* article I'd like to show you that, from what I've read of it, is actually far more *objective* than the article you read because it *doesn't* bring political bullshit into it at *any* point; it actually *presents* the ways in which women are *different* from men, and explains that women aren't building as much muscle as men because they're working out *same way* as men, which the article *itself* says *doesn't* play to a woman's physiological strengths; here it is if you're interested: mennohenselmans.com/natural-muscular-potential-women/

      *Looks at Hollywood movies, Netflix series portraying women with masculine traits*

    • @adorabell4253
      @adorabell4253 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The issue with not doing this is that traditionally feminine characteristics have not been seen in a positive light. Or, more accurately, not seen as strengths. Our society has generally seen masculine traits as better. Things like assertiveness, dominance, logic, these have all been considered masculine traits while feminine traits like meekness, compassion, religiosity, emotionality are seen as lesser. Not necessarily bad but lesser. Think of the insult “stop being so emotional”.
      Now, millennials and zoomers don’t really think in these older categories but a few hundred years of social assumptions don’t just disappear because women are now paid the same as men in jobs without wage negotiation.
      This is why we continue to portray heroic women as having traditionally male characteristics (despite those characteristics being mostly socially determined).

    • @viperstriker4728
      @viperstriker4728 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@adorabell4253 I have to challenge a few of your assumptions here as that might have been your experience but I don't think it exists in all of society.
      Dominance is certainly not seen in a positive light, it is almost always a trait that villains are given. Or just look at how the Roman or British Empire are largely seen as bad, is dominating other cultures just imperialism?
      Not quite sure what you mean by religiosity but I will point out that men have more often then not been the religious leader. As someone who has a female pastor I still see the men leading the prayer more often then not.
      I wouldn't link logic to masculinity. I see where you get that perception but masculinity is linked to aggressiveness more directly and that is a direct counter to logic, not unlike how emotionality counters logic in women.
      I completely agree about the meekness vs assertiveness. But I will point out that no society would value meekness over assertiveness, or at least they are not likely to survive against the other societies since assertiveness is almost always a benefit.
      Have you ever seen the trope when the hero spares the villain with the story saying that took more strength then vengeance? That seen at least makes the case that compassion is not seen as a lesser trait but one of the most heroic traits. And in the 5 man band trait the compassionate character is always female.
      I see your point but I think the perception that you have might be more the result of entertainment giving women masculine traits rather then the cause of it. Most of the things I mentioned are far more prevent in older media, such as star trek.

    • @misturfixit45
      @misturfixit45 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@adorabell4253 There's a grain of truth to that, but not sure I follow where you're coming from. As the above comment points out, it's pervasive in mostly modern films and shows. The trope of the buff, unflappable heroine was pretty much invented by millenials and zoomers. The further back you go, the more feminine the female characters seem to be. Just compare, say, Captain Marvel to Phoenix or Rogue from the 2000 X-men. Compare new Charlies Angels to old Charlies Angels. So I don't think it follows that this is the result of some traditional mindset if it's a recent phenomenon.
      But I agree that it may have to do with the millenial/zoomer mindset, vis-a-vis, they are unwilling or afraid to portay any woman as weak or vulnerable soas not to seem like they aren't champions of the cause of strong and brave warrior women. It's the soft bigotry of low expectations.
      It's also a bit of an oversimplification that feminine characteristics weren't traditionally portrayed positively. In action movies, maybe, where those traits aren't generally ideal for the situation. But for every Predator there was also a Pretty in Pink, wherein women were portrayed as smart, compassionate, meek, emotional and it's not seen as lesser to men. Yes, those traits can be flaws - characters are supposed to have flaws - but we still root for those women as women. Their struggle isn't to become more masculine, they usually become more feminine by the end of the film. And right, it's not a bad thing. Never really has been.
      So if anything, it's millenials and zoomers who are uncomfortable with feminine qualities. Many of them have been conditioned to conflate supporting women with giving them unconditional adoration and approval. It's not really a healthy or realistic worldview, which is why it so often collides with basic facts like "men are stronger than women".

    • @reaperanon979
      @reaperanon979 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Today's western cosmopolitan societies don't place any value on the traditional feminine anymore. It's an unescapable aspect of basing your society around the fictitious idea of equality instead of simply leaving that tenet in the system of law.

      It is honestly really unfortunate that in the pursuit of equality, the culture (especially entertainment) has decided that women must assume the man’s role, like pursuing careers, obtaining wealth and leadership, and being physically strong and able to defeat others in combat. It seems ironic that the only traits valuable in a woman according to modern feminism are masculine ones. It’s a mindset divorced from the foundation of the culture which is family, and I cannot help but believe feminism has impacted it negatively. When family is paramount, nothing can be more important than raising a child, which is why femininity is so powerful, and why it’s so sad to see a general loss of femininity.

      Which, that family is the foundation of culture, or that feminist ideology is divorced from family? To the second point, while implicit, I meant in the comment that feminism teaches that _career_ is paramount in culture rather than family; that in order to be happy, women need the things men have which women have been supposedly held back from having. I don’t really need evidence to tell you that feminists (especially in entertainment) spend much more time helping women pursue careers than helping them be proficient in the home, that much is obvious. And it’s not hard to find feminist philosophers who view marriage as an institution to perpetuate the patriarchy. Kate Millett, Germaine Greer, and Shulamith Firestone, feminist bestsellers from the 70’s, endorsed sexual liberation and smashing the nuclear family (I got this from a Google search, so like I said, not hard to find). Moreover, I think there is correlation between the rise in feminism and the decline of marriage, with 40% of children born to single mothers nationally, which was around 5% in the 60’s, when 2nd wave feminism came about (not to discount other factors). Do we need to get into why traditional two parent families are the best?

Battles are extremely unpredictable which is why almost all war games/strategy games involve dice rolls, so there’s always a possibility everything goes wrong for one side in a battle. That being said the logistics behind a woman army doesn’t make sense, and a culture would have surely had trouble growing if it was women going off into conflicts exclusively, or even 50/50. Especially in times of increased conflict like ancient world that almost guarantees long term population decline to the point where it’s irreversible.

      @@JeffPenaify The strategy, tactics and the decisions depend upon the army a general has. A simple reason why a better general would lose to lesser one is because of the army's men and its equipment. Take the example of Hannibal and Scipio. Scipio's heavier armored and more experienced men outperformed the first two layers of Hannibal's army.
      You cannot arm a women in a same way that as a man. The equipment cannot be as heavy. Then there are female biological downsides such as menstrual periods. Having a large part of your fighting force down because they are having a biological process will be disastrous.

People think that physical strength makes you more superior because that seems to be the only strength that is focused on. No one recognizes mental strength for example. Men can do things that women can't, and vice versa. It doesn't make one better than the other, it just makes us different. As a woman, I don't feel inferior because I have to ask for help if I can't lift something heavy, or if I need to ask my big, burly guy friend to walk me back to my car.
    Also I will say that I was helping a friend move, and this guy who was there was much skinnier than I am and he was able to lift way heavier things than me.
