- West struggles with the term "spirit of the law", as his concept of police work differs from Officer Lopez.
Season 1 Episode 13 "Caught Stealing": Bishop and Nolan respond to a car accident and find the victim has been stabbed, but he escapes from the ambulance and flees the scene. To their surprise, he turns up at the station and is revealed to be an undercover officer investigating a drug cartel. The LAPD raids the home before the transfer, and the rookies are put in charge of the scene until the money counters arrive. The counters finish, and $250,000 is missing. The rookies are interrogated and cleared but still suspended. Later, the cartel attack Chen believing that she took the missing money.
Welcome to the OFFICIAL The Rookie TH-cam channel!
Follow John Nolan, a forty-five-year-old man, who leaves the comfort of his small-town life to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. Enjoy the show's best moments all in one place, as Nolan and his fellow Rookies learn to deal with not only their duties as police officers but also the ones in their personal lives. We're not at the academy anymore...

In all three rookies, West got the most problems, either too rigid or too careless, not to mention froze when the shooting starts. But Lopez trained him well
Then they go kill him off screen 😫
@@BipoIarbear well, probably not much to develop after all the woke culture propaganda

WEST : "The Law's the Law..."
ALSO WEST : Please don't follow the Rules and bounce my Ass for Freezing up, TWICE!
lol
West was soooo annoying sometimes
Mind you he was raised as a cops son law has been instilled in his head as grateful as he is for the pardon if she would've wrote him up I'm sure he would be fine with the punishment and lecture.
Then they should ve bounced him. And freezing up is not a crime. The TO should ve done his/her job and got him out. However not everyone comes out the Academy as Rambo. What she is teaching him now, makes them so.
Not sure why you are telling us what we already heard in the clip.
this is why i love Lopez character and she is a hell of a sniper
Man this is a great episode - discussion law in such a way. I've never seen them cover a topic like this before in any crime show
This show is my favourite thing ever. Been watching since the first episode aired!

I understand the policy, as there are plenty that would abuse such "payments" and "favors" on both sides. That being said, there were plenty of times when I worked at a movie theater as a teenager where I would give Military Discount to police and firemen as well, and teachers got Student discount. My present 30+ year old self would still do similar, I expect nothing in return because IMO the Military, First Responders, and Teachers already earned it. Those professions are the most important in any society, they are our present and future well-being, and they are treated with reprehensible disrespect, as though they are second-class professions.

A good demonstration of "letter" vs. "spirit" of the law.
Could use some minor tweaking, but it does a good job of demonstrating the concepts.
Their is no such thing as Spirit. Law is Law.
I can't watch season 1 because I have to pay for it :( I still watched all the episodes from season 2 so far, cant wait until the next one. I like this WAY better than S.W.A.T now

"Spirit of the law"... righteous vs rigid. Only years of experience and applying law and principle in a multitude of circumstances teaches any of us the difference.
This show without Chen, Bishop, Lopez wouldn't be the same. These three females are lovely and add so much.
You just have a crush
thats exactly the reason they're there. there usually aren't these many female officers working together irl
Is she supposed to be a good cop? He messes up but she gives him a pass because he has potential. Then she holds that over him to make him falsify a charge. What if they caught someone with a marijuana cigarette but the guy has a bad attitude, is it OK to plant a baggie on him so he gets charged with possession with intent to supply?
I think they are two sides of the same coin. One is willing to ruin a mans life because of procedure. The other is willing to use a loop hole to take the law into her own hands.
I think the point of writing them that way is to create character development by having them learn from one another and finding balance between the two extremes.
So basically no, I don't think she is meant to be a good cop. Neither of them are. But they are learning to be better together.
I don't think it's that she is holding it over his head, she is reminding him that not following the law isn't always a bad thing. That cops have the discretion to do the right thing.
@@AxelSW2012 but is the right thing here fabricating a charge?
@@achoo9165 Do I think she should have done it? No. But it isn't fabricating a charge. He did dine and dash and the bill did end up over $700.
@@AxelSW2012 The officer added to the charge. SHE stole the dessert which pushed it over the edge. I'd report her for that immediately. Which is why I would chased off the force
The fact he did it multiple times kinda makes this ok
When is the first video coming online on tv?
The dog is rigidity, the restaurant... it's completely unethical to deliberately escalate one's situation into a felony when said person has no more ability to influence the situation. Totally righteousness in that case.
Said Person shouldn't have been duping women. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes 🤣
@@sarahtobore2832 That doesn't justify fabricating a more severe charge though.... the dude deserves a punishment no doubt; but changing it into a felony is not justice
@@TimelineBeats think about it this way: Were you to add up all the money he's been swindling from women, you would get a higher value than 700 dollars. So, however you look at it, he's still guilty. He was just unfortunate enough to get caught. Nothing of value was lost. Officer Lopez is still 💯 My country people have a saying: *Every day for the thief, one day for the owner.*
@@sarahtobore2832 That’s a gross abuse of the legal system to convict someone based on a hypothetical. If you don’t have the evidence to convict someone, you cannot simply bypass the lack of evidence based on character assassination. That kind of thinking can lead to unlawful arrests like,
Well, he robbed a store, so he MAY have intended to use lethal force. GTFO with that godawful take

Why do they always make them look like a fool
But I missed half of it because I have two shows on the same day and same time
If only this is what the LAPD was really like, it would be the best organization in America. Unfortunately they have been charged with gang activity, working as bodyguards for the cartel, and just horrible crimes. So a free coffee is the least of the Chief's concern.

It's called compartmentalization, which is a crucial component of both building, and maintaining, a plot - even if it's a more vague/general one, like for a TV series. All sources of media that tell stories use this

tbh, the dine-dasher only did what a lot of women usually do 😂 also, they both had the food, why was he expected to pay? I know its chivalry, but there's no chivalry in law.... they both had the food; the lady should pay her half. it shouldn't matter if they're married, friends or on a date. also, she states herself she's a gold-digger, shouldn't she and other women he scammed be arrested for being gold-diggers in that logic????
Do police officers actually talk like this when they are training new recruits?
I was so happy when they got rid of him.
I like this show but I’ll be honest (maybe a little cruel) is I was in that guys shoes I would fallow any order she gave me and if it ends up getting us in trouble well I was following orders and given no other choice throw her under the bus (cruel but really she kinda has it going towards her)
I saw clips and started getting into this show, but it's copaganda clips like this that completely put me off. Police should be held to the highest moral standard due to the power they're given, and should be held accountable to the spirit and the letter of the law, if either are violated they should be stripped of their position and jailed for a long time, regardless of the offense.
