I was transferred to a new region where the ambient temperatures stay in the high-90ºs and easily, and quite routinely crest 100º+.
It did not take more than 15 minutes in the car scouting new roads to ride that I realized none of my gear was suitable for this climate.
I had to do an entire kit refit this afternoon and purchased the vented version of these boots after waffling between these and the Dainese Dyna Pros. In the end, I could not see the add-benefit for the extra $150 delta between the DDs and SMX-1s.
My bike hasn't arrived (thanks post CV19 trucking crisis), so I've been wearing them in the house and breaking them in a little by riding my imaginary motorcycle in the office chair and going through repetitive ankle flexes that would simulate shifting and braking, getting up on the rearsets, etc. and doing a bit of hallway walking to validate if there are "hotspots" that rub the foot, ankle and toes. Nothing pops out thus far, so that's good.
For those with wide feet, the toe box is ample. You'll have no problem in this area. The lower sides of the mid-foot feels just slightly snug but I'm sure this will resolve with some more break in time. They are no where NEAR as stiff and rigid as my PUMA 1000 V4s, but that is a full-on track boot so it's not fair to compare - however that's sort of my baseline for full protection and stiffness.
Arch support in these is minimal. So a caution; if you have collapsed arches and plan to do any off-bike walking in these, you may want to invest in an insert. The mid-foot kevlar strand V-strap is a similar concept to my Columbia Facet45 trekking boots which was appealing. No outward strings or laces EVER for me on a M/C boot! Just seems so common sense and yet bizarrely many buyers are OK with this as a securing system.
That said, I don't feel pulling in the velcro really added much tightening over the top of the mid-foot. I probably would have preferred a BOA lacing system or even a ratcheting mechanism to bring more snugness over and really make these feel "locked on" to your foot. The same applies around the upper ankle area. They're comfortable, provide good flex, and have a generous opening if you're someone with thick upper ankles, but a way to narrow the diameter of the opening or snug it up a bit with thicker padding around the shin/ankle to fill up the space would be a plus for those with narrower lower legs.
Be that as it may, again, I have no fear of my foot coming out of these in a bad off and so far, they have been comfortable.
I wish I could provide color and insight on how well they move air. The toe cap is solid and doesn't have any venting like some "air" version of competing products do. But looking forward to trying them out when the bike arrives next week and hope that they do indeed circulate and push enough air to allow vapor and moisture to escape. Swamp foot at the end of your ride is no fun!

The lack of ankle adjustment is a big con yo! Would love a top strap to tighten it on the ankle more.
