I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly except for one minor issue. My modem is an Amazon refurbished Arris TG862G and the password on the modem didn't work, so I needed to get into the modem as you described. I tried the 192.168.0.1 and nothing happened. What worked was to reset the modem, then the 192.168.0.1 worked immediately, and I was able to follow your instructions. By the way, you were way more helpful than Comcast. Thanks!
Sharon Spears I just bought the same exact model as you. I have done everything but I cannot see the network name on my devices. doesn't decode or change.
Something I want to add - sometimes Comcast's firmware will sort of "hijack" the gateway to the modem and the access address 192.168.0.1 may not work. Instead, try to log in using 10.0.0.1 This is a rare occurrence but it happens often enough with our customers so it's worth mentioning :-) Keep in mind this is just how the firmware is interacting with the modem, it is not a defect.
question? do you have to use the lan cable plugged into the WAN port of the router Or any port on it? You can not make the changes by the use of a wifi connection? Thanks & Cheers from Louisiana.

Hi, does this device has "Xfinity WiFi Home Hotspot feature"? I asked this question because I need this feature for free bandwidth so that I use less bandwidth on my comcast account.

Good video, Ill try it later. QUESTION.. When the installation crew came to install the Arris, they connected it to my older router. Why, i dont know! But i left it like that, until its been acting up and giving me IP errors. Any way, disconnecting the redundant router and using the Arris modem/router, when it boots all lights come on, but then the 2 and 5 gh lights go out. Unable to connect to wifi. Is this an "enable wifi" button that they turned off in this settings page? And i just click it and enable it again? Im not sure why the wifi lights dont stay on. I do get ethernet connection however.

I just put this modem in service and it did exactly what you stated and I had to logon using *10.0.0.1*
Tom, none of these addresses worked for me. I am trying to connect to Comcast support to see why the Wifi network is NOT even visible from an iphone!
