That was amazing editing. Simulcasting on TH-cam… Well, almost simulcasting. Well, actually, nothing even remotely resembling simulcasting. However, the editing was spot on! Well done. Good form! And I loved (and hated) Sailing Via because it’s so hot in Mexico they needed their fans running;)
Sailed down to SoCal from Monterey bay with experienced crew. Took a knockdown rounding Point Conception, my standing rigging came lose, fixed it in Santa Barbara. Watch for the Santa Anna winds.
Hey guys, With bar conditions like they were last week, we thought you were goneski. I mean unrestricted conditions. That was a great discussion, I just wonder how far out they were. It sounds like they did a coastal hop. try to go out a bit more and do a more speedy passage. Like they say less time on passage. Once past Ensenada things smooth out. Big problem with the west coast is most harbors are from rivers. That means bar crossings. As I always say, sailing is easy, experience takes time and you will gather that. One thing you can trust, your boat, a nuaticat, has a huge engine. It is a power boat that can sail. You can power out of conditions other sail boat get into dicey conditions. Use that to your advantage. And all couples have trouble docking. Docking is nothing more than a controlled crash into a pier, but you have practiced that, experience is key. Good luck,
We sure have 😏 you’re right about the engine- Drifter is a BEAST! Feeling pretty confident in this guy; that’s for sure. We just gotta be smart and take our time
.... OK! just a few inputs here, I am not back on the water yet .... things that you talked about that I deem important ...... Docking is so important and must be practiced, can never be too good at it. There are so many different conditions out there. Swell, tide rips, fog, just to mention a few. It comes down to knowing your boats capabilities and being able, having the skill, to maximize and know, your specific boats capabilities. Just grabbing one point here. How fast can you go forward for maximum steerage, The big part here is "how to stop and not hit the dock," at full reverse how long till full stop, how does your boat react in full reverse. No you do not want to find this out with a dock, in a clear calm area start off with a floating thing in the water, maybe a fender, pool noodle, race up to it and stop without hitting or passing it .. what would you think of a pilot just winging it when it comes to landing a plane .... also everyone on board needs to have the capability, what happens if the reason you are coming to the dock is cause the person that always docks is out for the count. Yes you can call for people to be on the dock, but you need to get the boat to the dock calmly .... ok enough already ...... storage pace is paramount, not only for supplies, but toys, you are on the water and water toys tend to take up a lot of room and you do not want a cluttered deck obstructing you ability to get around the deck in challenging conditions.... The water topic brings up two things, having enough solar , batteries, electric water maker .... I would not want to be in the situation where the size of the water tank dictates where the bow of the boat points or if I have to leave a destination that I am enjoying. There are channels out there that shower daily. ..... great idea for a video, great video .. just points I feel strongly about ... thx for sharing .. as always .. never stop dreaming ust dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans ...
Thanks! Yes I agree! And we should be getting our watermaker back up and running soon. Its funny how water literally dictates almost everything we do now
@@ChrisandKellNowHere .... yes it does, you are quite correct especially since they tell us we can survive with out food longer than the lack of water ..... there was another item that came to mind after replying and that was a manual autopilot, wind activated .... thx for the reply ..... make it an exceptional week ....
Wonderful presentation, both parties are amazing people. I don't Geyt, seasick, I do have a crutch to use. 1 Saltine Crackers, keep something in your belly. 2 Cotton in your ears when the wind is blowing. Fun Stuff, Be Safe
Why didn't either one of you make a left turn in to the San Francisco Bay? Hanging out there for a couple of days, anchored off of Sausilito and having the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco at night would have been pretty cool, and really broken up the long trip.
Can't speak for Via, but for us, the time of year we were going down, when you have the weather window you take it... It was a bummer to miss San Francisco and Santa Cruz and the stops along the way, but I'm glad we were able to get down when we did.
@@ChrisandKellNowHere I stayed overnight in Santa Cruz on my cousin's Fisher with him and his wife, slept in the wheelhouse, right in front of the boardwalk and next to the pier. Waking up at 6:00 in the morning to a wonderful calm pinkish / orange sea, with sea lions, and seagulls making racket while watching the boardwalk wake up was magical! My wife and I are hoping to take the Fisher ( a Fisher 37, which we are "babysitting" before the cousin takes it up to Astoria) and anchor it out in front of Sausalito to give ourselves a mini - overnight extersion to see how we like it. I don't think we are "out in the ocean" curisers like you two adventurers, but spending time over night in various spots in our beautiful bay, or up in your river, or in the Puget Sound sure sounds fun to me!
Definitely do the Puget Sound! We’ve heard amazing things and have several friends up that way. I do regret not having the time to do that ourselves. Babysitting a boat sounds like the best of both worlds!!
Fly down rent a boat when you get tired of the heat the bugs the rocking boat then come back up to paradise and enjoy sailing! Do you watch other video's from people that have gone down? I watch hundreds and just about all complain of the same things the only great thing they say is the water is Warm!
Yes! We watched so many other channels in the research phase- trying to decide where to stop and break up the trip. Any suggestions? Oh and flying home during the sweat season is a strong possibility!
I can tell you from experience a fishing rod is a CURE ALL for boredom on any boat !
We have a few hand lines ready to roll!

Matatooie! Thanks! This was a fun one and we are also still very jealous of their golden bodies 😅
Coastal hop south; forget the offshore passage, sea sickness, giant krakens etc. Cheers.
And hopefully whales!!

Yikes! That sounds a bit hairy! Good Reminder to add checking hardware to our list
... and it's red so it's faster.. even with it sitting in the locker.. (awesome!)
Yeah! And in real time we realized it also tears super easy 😅

Fun episode came over from sailing via - and good to watch
Sweet! Welcome aboard!
Good luck

Thank you!
There are definitely some passages where I’ve been on a strict ginger ale and saltine diet!
Wow sailing adrift!! Special guests very cool! Question #1 are you gonna come to Florida and the carribiaan.
Eventually! But first we want to spend a whole cruising season in Mexico…
The dolphins r angels of the sea
You know... I kinda agree!

@@ChrisandKellNowHere Yes, I have a great cousin !
Life at sea includes boredom punctuated by periods of pure panic.
Yep! You pretty much nailed it. This needs to be one of those quote art pieces you see on walls or floor mats
what is this stowage you speak of? My boat is 98% ice box, damn i can stow alot of food LOL
I hope our 3 fridges/freezers are enough! Who knows what you need until you need it- or just want it really bad lol
Funny, even with cold storage like that, how fast canned vegetables become a necessity.
Now we just need to start catching our own protein! Here fishy fishy
This was probably your best episode amd stop drpping shit in the drink. Dont feel bad i just dropped an opal 🤬 in the drink
I dropped myself off the dinghy the other day… does that count?
