    Yeah I did a few races on LFM and I do understand how the ELO works. But it's a bit painful dropping your ELO to correct level. I'm still on too high an ELO ( 1200 ) for my skill at ACC, which is very low. All I did before I moved on to other sims/systems is stay out of everyones way and stay at the back. I was in split 2 for my first race, which was nuts. I should be in split 6 or 7. I don't, however, have a solution. In the end I got tired of people just driving through me as if I wasn't there and gave up.

    This is one thing Gran Turismo 7 actually does right, splits are sorted first by SR, then by ELO rating.

      I am also quite fond of the way they implement the ‘slow down’ penalty.

  • @DavidHutcheson

    The nature of ELO means that if you started new people at 1000, you would need to add the other 500 ELO somewhere if you still wanted the average ELO to be 1500. It's not as simple as just starting them lower.

    • @BongoRacing
      @BongoRacing  ปีที่แล้ว

      It really is that simple but there needs to be willingness from LFM to massage and refine the system. No rookie should be dropped into a high split straight after getting their license. Of course there are exceptions but on the whole it seems to make that first few races, that first season, not the best experience. There has to be a better way to onboard rookies than letting them sink or swim. Sadly, the majority that sink pull down lots of others with them. I do not blame them but the system. To qualify for a license run you have to hit a certain SA level. This should continue through that first season longer than it does now. Self improvement shouldn’t end after the first six races it should continue for the full twelve. There are no real rights or wrongs here just ideas to try and make things better for everyone. Thanks for your input.

    • @DavidHutcheson
      @DavidHutcheson ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BongoRacing oh I don't disagree at all, just wanted to point out that ELO alone isn't the solution.
      One option could be to hold back their 500 and make them earn it over time. That way the ELO baseline stays at 1500 but they don't get access to higher splits immediately.
      Splitting by SR is an option, but then slower but safer drivers get constantly put in splits with faster drivers. Not much fun.

    Yellow flag means SLOW DOWN! This is done so the other drivers approaching can avoid making contact with the spun car or stopped car.. it's also done so the car off the track can rejoin easier without having to wait 45 seconds lol.
    Unfortunately no one in ACC actually slows down for Yellow flags thus these types of accidents happen constantly!
    The funny thing is, it will happen racing the AI also... That's why you slow down when you look at the map and see a yellow car and Yellow flag pops up on your dash board.
    IRL you can be disqualified for not slowing down. Just ask Super GT who was DQ'ed from the 24hr at Nurb a couple days ago for not slowing down thru a safety zone during practice

    Claim:
    "LFM needs to adjust the starting ELO to a 1000 to make the races better."
    Reality:
    ELO is based on a starting point of 1500.
    You are just slightly below this.
    If starting ELO would be 1000, you would be just slightly below 1000!
    ELO is a closed zero-sum system! ELO gained by someone, must be lost by someone else!
    With lower starting ELO, the position of the drivers with each other will be the same, only the ELO numbers will differ and the spacing would be tighter!
    You would still be driving against the same people!
    There is obviously the same amount of new drivers, that drive better than you, as there is the same amount of new drivers driving worse than you!
    For every driver that "does not quite have the experience yet", there is a equal amount of drivers that has more experience!
    That's why you sit slightly below the starting ELO and still would be if the starting ELO would be different!

    • @BongoRacing

    • @r.t.982
      @r.t.982 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Let's go back to the incident:
      While the driver with 20 races that "does not quite have the experience yet, and should not be dropped into this split" is to blame for not holding the brakes long enough, the driver with +100 races and three seasons of experience is to blame for completely ignoring yellow flags!
      Already one, two, three, four, five, six other drivers were able to pass the car, that's how long there was already yellow!
      Despite being flashed with bright yellow for more than five seconds, the experienced driver does absolutely nothing except focusing on the Ferrari buddy and keeping the throttle pinned in what is one of the fastest turns in this game, until it is to late.

    imho the issue is that the risk (losing SR) is not greater than the reward (gaining ELO) in the eyes of the offenders. There needs to be a much heavier penalty for causing an incident - so that it really impacts someones SR AND ELO and thus its the last thing anyone would want. At present its a small percentage and someone could easily do this every other race in an attempot to gain ELO with little to no consequence. SR needs to be as important in the eyes of these idiots as ELO.
    In addition rookies should stay rookies until SR 6.0 and I love your idea of every promotee having their ELO set to 1000 (if currently >1000) to ensure they bed themselves in.
    LFM just dont seem to care about safe driving.

      @BongoRacing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear ya. People will complain that ‘their’ accident wasn’t intentional and that they feel unfairly punished but I think on the whole it would balance out. • @AzureGoat
      @AzureGoat ปีที่แล้ว +2

      LFM used to remove ELO for penalties alongside SR, but a while ago they changed this to be only SR, just harsher on SR - Original reasoning was that incidents don't neccesarily mean the driver is of any worse skill and therefore shouldn't lose ELO - While this had some merit at the time I think the point has been made since that people are happy to sacrifice SR to gain ELO and it definitely should be reverted - As mentioned, genuine accidents should be balanced out.

      There's a natural pull to win, to prove you're faster, better than other, to be able to imagine yourself that guy. LFM tries to outweight SR to ELo but we are made in such a way that we nevr want to backoff etc etc. Sim developer, communities, drivers, everyone MUST do more in order to have pure clean respectful racing. Close racing is really difficult, most of us don't know how to do it, but what I see is there are rare race incidents and a lot more habits that make no sense. None prepares a pass, none accepts to wait, none is willing to induce in errors, they just learn how to hit you, then you have to throw 10min in the garbage (nultiplied for all the times someone hits you) to make a video, and throw to waste your SR, your race and somehow get abused...

    • @zzmadd
      @zzmadd ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AzureGoat I can add to that that driving first and foremost safely makes you slower. If you only pass when there's no chance for contact, after preparing the pass, giving it the right time then you become slower in absolute terms than running into people.
