It would be amazing to see the winding house rebuilt, even if not in the original position, and some track going down the incline, even secure a wagon to the tracks like with chocks, chain or even welded to the rail (safety) to show how it once looked in use.
Heck even better, if it were possible, try do a half build. If it is possible from a structural standpoint only build the front half with the two pillars. Like the ones further up the line on other inclines. But yes I totally agree.

This was a great video to make, and good to have it presented by new faces and voices. I hope Frank is encouraged in particular, so that he might relax and smile next time!
It has always occurred to me when "Health & Safety" gets cited as the reason that rails and trucks couldn't be recreated going down the village incline - at least as a static exhibit, but preferably as an interactive demonstration - that theme park rollercoaster engineers would probably have 21st century solutions to the challenge. (By the way, I'm definitely NOT suggesting that people would go down the incline in trucks! But wouldn't it be wonderful to see a few trucks go up and down as a demonstration...?)
Amazing to think that even 70 years after the railway was saved by the preservation society there are still many projects for volunteers to work on.
Good update, many thanks. The area is close to my heart. A railway steeped in enthusiasm, you can't ask any more, except maybe to keep it like that.
Ty Dwr is a triumph. It is very exciting to see the plans for the village incline.
Excellent video and presenters. Over 50 years ago myself and friend having explored that spot descended/scrambled down the incline into Aber' village. Think we had to circumnavigate a gap where a stream may have flowed underneath but ready to be corrected on that. After a quick look around the village the scramble back up was a lot easier. Sad to say all the B&W photos I took were lost many years ago. On another day we navigated with great difficulty all along Nant Gwernol at ground zero from Aber' to the Quarry, discovering many old slate waggons in the river. Photos were taken and shared with the museum. Happy times.
Great video! The water trough, especially those slate towers are works of art. Very impressive all round by those involved.
Saw something recently outlining the complex network of rail lines linking the slate quarries at the top of that incline.Seemed to go on for ever! How hard those quarrymen must have worked.
Thank you for the update, really good to see what is going on. It's encouraging to see that the videos are carrying on. I have a presentation observation: When two people are having a conversation they should always look at one another and not the camera. We are not conversing with them, we can't get involved in the conversation, so don't look at us, we spectate. The only time the camera should be addressed is if the viewer is the direct target of a statement. Most sports presenters are falling into this trap as it has been imported from the USA where anyone not talking will stare into the camera, which is really disconcerting.
Wow! This winding house and track is quite a awesome project to see either concept or fully live one day.

Looks like the water flow would take rather too long to top up a normal service train, but wonderful to see it rebuilt and I'm sure the operating department would say that contingency options are always good to have.
The incline to the village...
I'm sort of sad that it can't be rebuilt as it orginally was, but extending the line for passenger traffic was the right thing to do. Tourists need to see the bottom of the rope worked inclines and few folk would walk it.
Yet it is something special and some form of reconstruction is called for. Funding might appear, so any further works must not prejudice an eventual full reinstatement, but, for the moment, a plausible replacement winding house is called for. I'm sure the dimensions of that drum are on file (if not why not?) so in the worst case the origninal can go to the museum and a new one made put in the new winding house.
Ideally "track", not necesarilly of load-bearing quality, leading from the main line at a spot where a set of points could be imagined. Maybe, one day, a real connection might be possible, but I can see the Railways Inspectorate wanting serious point clips installing too! This would lead to the top of the incline which would be served by the turntable, perhaps a second one to serve the other incline track. Then those tracks lead over the edge. Once out of sight they don't need to really exist until a whole lot more money appears.
You would need a lot of signage to explain this isn't how it really was, but it would be so much more real for people to see. You would need to add a safe access path from one or both stations at the top.
Needs an excentric milionaire to fund it, but one is allowed to dream.
Would it be possible to potentially modify the winding house to make it appear as if it was part of the line, but with the explicit interpretation that it is NOT original and modified from its original configuration? Because I'll be honest, seeing the incline and everything else, it feels like the winding house would make the scene complete.

Some interesting points made, and particularly the archive photos of the Abergynolwyn village winding house in situ, of No.4 passing through the structure, and an archive view looking up Alltwllt incline. All very informative. But the presenters tended to talk over each other, repeat each other's final statements, and there was a bit too much inarticulate 'manexplaining' of how things worked (often without actually making functions clear), I found. I expect most of the audience for these videos are existing enthusiasts, rather than a casual audience. So better to assume a degree of informed knowledge about railways and the TR in particular, as per your regular news updates. But practice makes perfect, so hopefully there will be better presentation next time!
Interesting vid, a shame that funds aren't more readily available to highlight the quarrying side of the railway, it's just begging to have an incline system at Nant and a facsimilie winding house to get that turntable & drum under cover
It’d be cool if they’d extended the Talyllyn would make more extensions with new routes around the incline areas (same for the Corris and Ffesington)
Fascinating update. Is there any system with the water trough to prevent unwanted material from further up stream getting into the loco tanks?
Yes there is, just after the flap valve there is a series of brushes in the troughs to catch any unwanted items!
You all could make the incline into a stair/ handicap pathway to the village
I would very much like to see the talyllyn pull slate trucks and all that
im assuming restoration of that shed (idk I watch from the states)
