Why We Love Philip Seymour Hoffman

  • Philip Seymour Hoffman could do it all: He could make us laugh, he could make us cry, and he could do both of those things in a single scene-he was just that versatile. This incredible talent is what led to Hoffman being labeled as a character actor, but that classification doesn’t quite seem to do him justice. Yes, he had many standout performances in many eccentric supporting roles, but Hoffman was also a commanding presence who proved himself to be a tour de force in several leading performances. I’m not sure if any other actor has ever been able display emotion like Hoffman did. Thoughtful, and passionate, and really just a joy to watch, Hoffman was truly one of the greats. From subtle facial expressions to volatile explosions of dialogue, Hoffman was a master of emoting-he was a master of his craft in general. He made us laugh, he made us cry, but above all, he made us care.
    For more on our favorite actors and what made them so special, don’t miss our recent videos about Robin Williams, Christian Bale, Joaquin Phoenix, Lakeith Stanfield, and Tom Cruise-and for more on one of Hoffman’s ultimate performances, watch Influences on “The Master” to see what helped inspire him.

    To really see his genius, do yourself a favor and read the script to his movies. If you read the words on the page and see his range of emotion and performance, his line delivery is second to none. I HATE that we won't get to see him evolve into the kind of roles that behoove Anthony Hopkins or another older actor. He would have been REMARKABLE.

    I think what made Philip so incredible was his ability to take any role given to him and make it human. His every word, movement, and emotion seemed to come from the depth of his soul. No matter what role he played, whether it was comedic, villainous, or dramatic, it seemed so real.

    • @oppothumbs1
      @oppothumbs1 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The villainous part was all real. He left his kids and wife nothing in the will as he didn't want "trust fund babies" but his family was in dire need of some cash. A cool million or less could have helped his family and he has $35M. I don't know but he seemed like a bastard because of this and he wasn't shy but hardly talked to anyone as he had little time for fans. But he was a great actor.
