It still baffles me how the gaming industry is the only one capable of scamming their fanbase and get away with it without repercussions beyond bad reputation that will be forgotten anyways.
Imagine paying $70 for a game only to NOT be able to play it on release because of technical issues and even after day 1 patch struggling with performance. Not to mention all the content that you will NOT be able to enjoy since devs ran out of time, so you'll have to wait for future patches and/or dlc. I'd rather wait a year or two and get a fully patched ultimate edition of the same game, with all the content the devs didn't finish before release and I'll be getting it on sale for $30 or even less.
Pre ordering in the 21st Century is never okay. Wait until like, three days post launch until reviews are posted and it's in the hands of consumers. Even if you really want it physically, worst case scenario you'll need to drive to a mall like 30 minutes away to get it if its out of stock at your local Gamer Stop.
Why would pre-ordering a game you really know you want not be okay? It's just a way to get it into your game library as soon as it releases, which could get it installed and updated.

The whole idea of making big money on prereleased product is straight up ridiculous. Of course they would release game at launch with billion issues, cause they've already covered all the budget and beyond! lol

I never understood people who pre-order games, for what? For some skins or few days early access? The risk is too high considering most of games are bad in the first months. I could understand if maybe pre-order games was like 20% cheaper than on the release date but no, you pay the same money and get some skins usually or sometimes early access. Not worth to risk.
I never pre order games I have only done it twice that is for smash bros ultimate and elden ring. The only reason why I did is because I do 100 percent trust fromsoft and Bandi namco/nintendo but those are exceptions and not the norm

Persona 3 Reload is going to be my first ever pre-order,both out of love for Persona 3 and hoping it'll encourage them to remake Persona 1 and 2 so I don't need to use an emulator to play my favorite game of all time. But I love Persona 3 enough to risk it and if I get burned, then even the franchise that restored my faith in gaming isn't safe and I'll never do it again
The biggest reason why games will come out half baked at launch is because publicly traded companies will usually want to get one big release out per fiscal quarter. This is doubly true if it's the final quarter of the fiscal year.
To be fair, Pokemon is not developed by Nintendo and is not under their quality control regulations. It is developed by Game Freak, which has always been kinda bad at game development in general. Iwata had to teach them how to compress files with Gold and Silver.

You don't need it, you just want it, and they are fooling you into feeling like you need it. It's marketing 101.
@RFAHS the dlc wasn't day one the dlc was a small little side story that I enjoyed for what it was and dished out in chunks, and buying all the dlc would have made me spend more so I technically saved money by about 15$ trust me I barely pre-order this is the only game that I have done and I'm not even going to pre-order the sequel.

And also in case I need that pre-order money for something else earlier. Though even 1-2 weeks before still isn’t fully safe since the game wouldn’t get fully shown and available until like a few days before. I believe it wasn’t until like 1-2 days before Scarlet & Violet released when people discovered it was very glitchy, and at that point they either still wanted to get it because of how close the release date was or it was too late for them to cancel
5:25 I pre-ordered Exoprimal (granted by about 12 hours) because the Beta that was about a month before was incredible. I feel like if a game has a beta or really good demo, pre-ordering is fair cause you have actually gotten your hands on it a little. Other than that I tend to avoid pre-ordering.
I‘m as excited as everyone else about Starfield, but I'm still not gonna pre-order because of the shit bethesda have done in the past. Hint for those who don't know what I'm talking about: Fallout 76.
A year later and space marine 2 became the top selling game on steam before it even fucking came out. My friend who preordered it literally told me “I buy it now because I won’t have the money for it when it comes out”….just save the money. There’s truly no hope for gaming.
