I should be a good way off retirement but I have a chronic condition that might cause me to need to retire in my early 50's. As a friend of mine has to retire at 57 due to a surprise medical event; it's good to hear the info for emergency life planning as we never know if there will be an accident or some underlying issue that surfaces as our body ages. You can take supplements, do the healthy life fandago until the cows come home and have it all tossed out the window by a negligent driver or weather event. Plan for the worst to have the best possible

Its not just urr video topic that roped us in. Ur voice, how kind and grateful u seem, and the way u speak to us on camera is soothing at least to me(50y, cool mom of one lol NE boston coast)Rest assured yall i can tell u Tim's not just about decluttering, his most successful video was about decluttering is why hes most def talkin bout it again.but he also has mentioned in the videos' description and other videos, that he will talk about a lot in his life up til now and beyond. He wants to leave video memories on YT for his family, he said he'll talk about his life in Chattanooga, helpin his mom, some traveling, why he travels, and stuff he does around the house, even the mundane things. If u don't know how to get to the description of a video (some ppl do not know) ask a family member or friend who can show yall. Its easily overlooked and in small type, under the title and next to the videos views and how long the video has been up. For example right now this video is at: 25K views, 4d(ays) ago, next to that is " ...more" u have to click the word ... 'more' to open what the TH-camr writes about every video is usually diff description and he def says he will discuss many diff topics of life

I figured my kid's wouldn't want mine either so set about decluttering everything and then we downsized our house.

I just wanted to say there's actually lots of people "our age" wanting to declutter. There are three professional declutterers on TH-cam that have joined together and created a one-year course with a private FB page. 95% are women and I'm guessing 60% are over 50. For people younger the problem is us. Are people who are doting grandparents and insist on gifting their grandkids with toys they don't need are all of this stuff you saved for your child when they got older and they don't want it but we insist they take it.
Give your kid a choice do they want their first grade picture or not. Don't be upset if they say no just because you've kept boxes of their stuff in your basement for 27 years. Don't make our bad choices over the years into their decluttering in the future.
It's up to the older generation to stop making the younger generation have to declutter oir stuff because we wouldn't. The truth is when my mom died at 88 we had to unassemble and get rid of everything in her apartment in one day. Most of it sadly went into the dumpster all of us kept a few things that we wanted and pictures, and it's four years later and I'm just now giving myself permission to donate her stuff to Habitat. The stuff I thought I needed keep because it was important to her. I have no family I have no children my sisters have already told me when the time comes they're not even going to come they're going to have somebody with a dumpster come and empty my condo. None of their kids want their stuff either. I was angry at first and now I realized it was a gift as it allowed me to get rid of stuff that I might have wanted to hold on to for them, their kids. They both live over a thousand miles away and have very busy lives, one still wotks full time and are older too of course.

I think you said that you had just retired in June. I have heard it said by a number of people this side of the pond that when men retire they often don’t know what to do with themselves and follow their wives/partners around like shadows. As you enter retirement you may well notice not only how you are coping but how others in the same situation are. You’ve decided to review your excess belongings as a start. You probably never had time before. You said you had more to do so no doubt there will be more videos.

Essentialism. Now, there's a word that puts it into perspective. Thank you! My husband will retire in a few years, and we will be moving from one coast to the other. So yesterday, when your video came up on my feed, I couldn't click on it fast enough. With the stress of years' worth of "stuff," I've been watching minimalist videos in hopes of finding the answer on ways to deal with my clutter nightmare. But I realize I don't want to throw everything out and become a minimalist. I just want only what I need so that when we make this retirement move, we have very little to deal with. So, this word "Essentialism" can really be the tool I've been looking for in this process. Because packing up the entire contents of a house and moving it out of state? No. That's not happening at our age. Lol. Thanks again, and congratulations on your channel's growth.

Sweet! Suggestion for an encore: Take us into your process of decluttering. Show and tell us how you make decisions. I find it so hard to decide what to let go... I appreciate your honest, male, later in life perspective as most decluttering youtubers are young women. After decades of life lived we have so much more stuff to deal with... I look forward to traveling this journey (through the screen) with you. Thank you!

I had a breakthrough in getting rid of books, which is hard for a reader and a retired school librarian. I finally realized that I had two categories of books; those that I would read again and those that I would not read again. Using these two categories I was able to donate 150 books to a used bookstore that uses their profits to fund adult literacy. Don’t worry, I still have several hundred books! Yikes! I am reading through my shelf of unread books and donating what I will not read again. Good luck as you continue your journey!

Lot of baby boomers out here. So glad you have shared all this wisdom with us. I started the decluttering when pandemic hit. I have started again. I haven’t missed anything I have gotten rid of. I prefer to donate or give away. Don’t want to deal with yard sale or outright selling. Too much for me. Just want it gone! Doesn’t take much for one or two people. My stuff makes me feel smothered so it goes to others. My rooms still feel much too full so I am getting rid of some smaller pieces of furniture. Every time I make another round I find more to get rid of. Wishing you continued blessing in your new endeavor.

Many of us have told you how we came for your decluttering video but are staying because you’re likable and you draw us in because you’re discussing things to which most of us can relate. You’re likable and well spoken like most teachers. It’s your aura. 😊
I also appreciate that you’re able to say a lot and enough about your topic without dragging it out to make it a longer video. It kind of makes me more eager or glad there is a second video for the week! Like dating, you want to leave ‘em wanting more.”
Some cooking vloggers should edit more, we don’t need or want to watch someone dice the entire onion and then slice the entire bell pepper, etc. or they should title the vlog as “how to slice…” instead of “beef taco recipe.”

Watched your first video and was thrilled that someone of my generation was posting about decluttering. I moved from a small house to a condo about 4 years ago. I am not sure how many trips to the thrift store I made prior to the move, but it was a lot! I started about a year prior to the move because I was feeling the weight of my possessions and knew that it had to be done. I started with one closet and then another and then the basement. Small chunks of space started to appear empty and it was a motivator to keep going. I have been in the condo for about 4 years now and am still decluttering. Instead of downsizing in the move I upsized....go figure; but, I am still getting rid of things.
I also started volunteering at an 'upscale' thrift store that helps support a wonderful charity. Some of the things I have seen come thru the door are amazing. I do have some advice for those of you who are going thru and purging the items.
    1. Start early--especially with furniture because floor space where I volunteer is limited (it is a larger space, but there is still a limited amount) and many thrift stores do not have the means to rent extra storage space. That way you can call from time to time to see if you can finally donate them. We ask for a photo of the items of furniture be available for the manager so he can plan the floor space.
    2. True it is very hard to part with certain items. Please know that if you have enjoyed owning them, someone else will fall in love with them too. Pick a place to donate (or consign) that you feel will respect your things.
    3. Use what you have! Don't keep your (or even grandma's) china in a box. Use it and enjoy using it on a daily basis. I fully believe that things are meant to be used and enjoyed--besides your children are most likely not going to want the dishes.
I could go on and on, but these are the most common pointers that come to mind. Good luck with the channel--you have found and filled a niche.

Your channel resonated with me because de-cluttering is so often a response to a seismic shift in your life. Widowhood deprived me of my previous life as a wife and mother and shifted me into a life where there was only me so I had to cut free from my past life and create a new one. This involved selling our cherished furniture and embarking on a whole new ‘look’ for my home. Never regretted it for an instant! That’s why I say go, Retiree, go! The future lies ahead of you…..make it yours!
